Tumors are defined as an abnormal growth of cells that serves no purpose. The romance plot is that when the background of the DOnghak Uprising is the more relevant story.

I feel the same and that is why I am planning to just skip all the romance parts and just jump to the historical parts if I do watch the drama.

The situation reminds me of a historical novel that also had an uprising as the topic, specifically the Easter Rising in Ireland. The main protagonist is a fictional character who is mentored by the ringleader, teaching him the ideologies that drives the rebellion. The novel also has a subplot of a romance with an Irish prostitute. I also forgot to mention that he is a survivor of the Titanic sinking.

Is it the Musin Rebeliion? The plot to overthrow Yeongjo with the rebels claiming that he caused the death of his half-brother? Yes, that is the one . You Tube has some old Taiga Dramas, with English subs, if anyone is interested Going best to decent Takeda Shingen (1988 ) Nobunaga King Of Zipangu (1992) Komyo Ga Tsugi (2006) (Nobunaga, Hideyoshi and Ieyasu ) Furin Kazan (2007) (Takeda Shingen again ) Shinsengumi (2004) Mori Motonari (1997) Yoshitsune (2005) Musashi (2003 ) Like KBS, NHK will be all over these when they find out, but for now they are up and running . Takeda Shingen has the highest ratings of the whole franchise

I actually tried Takeda Shingen. I don't know what it is, but something about it isn't hooking me. Might be the protagonist or that it feels too sanitized.

Thanks MTR. I didn't start watching NHK taigas til 2009, so I haven't seen any of these.
Interesting contrasts between the two countries' styles of historicals. NHK doesn't seem to put as much money and effort into their battle scenes compared to KBS. In Korean dramas, the comic relief tends to come from the hero's buddy(s), whereas in Japanese, comic relief is usually provided by one of the wives. Japanese writing more subdued, Korean more flamboyant.

Shinsengumi is probably the most comedic, and humor is delivered by the men also, but it becomes very dark as soon as it gets in the 20's . Yoshitsune,Nobunaga, Shingen are all pretty dark. Komyo Ga Tsugi has the most viscous put down of Hideyoshi ever on film .

Arthdal has totally tanked, it may actually get shortened due to the poor ratings. Although is doing fine outside of South Korea, something about the lead actor and actress and a messy divorce, seem to be one of the reasons.

Kang Jihwan(Hong Gildong in KBS Hong Gildong) has been cast as Han Jeongrok, a retired archer from 2019 who time slips to Joseon era and meets Yim Kkeokjeong Yim Kkeokjeong was basically a Korean version of Robin Hood en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Im_Kkeokjeong Teaser The actor of lead character for this drama(Han Jeongrok) has been changed to Seo Jiseok due to the original lead actor Kang Jihwan being arrested for rape allegation. 10 Episodes have already aired with Kang Jihwan as the lead role. Kang Jihwan, the original lead actor(Ep 1-10), has acknowledged all rape accusations so will be serving jail time soon I assume. Seo Jiseok will take over the leading role from Ep 11 to 16. The drama was supposed to be 20 episodes, but has been reduced to 16 because of the rape incident.

Why would they shorten it? The producers did the right thing and replaced the actor. Seems like it just hurts a lot of innocent people who are working on the series. Maybe the network just wants it to go away ASAP?

Maybe the network just wants it to go away ASAP? The drama already had low ratings and the rape incident just made it worse. Plus it's also weird to see a lead character being changed to a different actor when it doesn't involve any age jump.
