Ladies and JHB 2002 were all on air in my country somewhere back in 2005, and several reruns before completely off air in 2010. I can't remember much of the details about those two by now but I'm glad to watch them again if available. Thanks for the info about the 1988 version, Sean, I'll be checking out the JHB 2002 soon when I have the time.

MBC My Dearest Start Date : August 4th, 2023 Director : Kim Seongyong(first historical setting drama) Writer : Hwang Jinyoung(MBC The Rebel) Time period : King Injo of Joseon Dynasty Synopsis: Love story during Qing invasion of Joseon * All lead characters are completely fictional Namgung Min as Lee Janghyeon, the main character Ahn Eunjin as Yu Gilchae, the love interest of main character This drama is apparently so popular that MBC is considering extending the total number of episodes. Also, I said all lead characters are fictional when I first posted the info, but I found out today that the Lee Janghyeon character is actually based on a real person named Jang Hyeon, who was Consort Jang Heebin's uncle. They changed Jang Hyeon's name to Lee Janghyeon in this show.

I tried watching this and just could not get through episode 1, maybe i should try again as everyone loves it . That's ok. It just means that a fictional historical doesn't fit our taste. I didn't watch it, either. Fictional historicals are usually at least 2 times more popular than traditional historicals.

I tried watching this and just could not get through episode 1, maybe i should try again as everyone loves it . Ok so you guys got me curious enough that I watched the first episode. I'll say this, for what it is, it's very well done and I can see how it got such a good response. And I get the impression that it's not going to be so much flirtatious silliness going forward. And there actually was more of a historical context to it than I expected. Probably won't finish it, not with GKW starting, but it's far from the worst K-series I've seen.

MBC The Story of Park's Marriage Contract (November 2023) Director : Park Sanghun Writer : Go Namjeong Time period : Joseon Dynasty and 2023 Synopsis: A Joseon Dynasty widow time-slips to 2023 * All characters are completely fictional Lee Saeyoung(Consort Uibin Seong in MBC The Red Sleeve) as Park Yeonwoo, a Joseon dynasty woman who time-slips to 2023 the day after her husband dies Bae Inhyeok as Kang Taeha, 2023 man who is a doppleganger of main character's late husband. He offers a fake marriage to the main character in order to deceive his parents and promises to help find a way to get the main character return to Joseon dynasty if she accepts his offer. I'll probably check this out. I like time travel dramas. Revenge and rebirth plots seem to be popular these days. For example, person A gets into a car accident. As A is dying, they wish for another chance at life to do things differently. A wakes up and either #1 magically survived the accident, #2 traveled back in time to some point prior in their life or #3 is now in someone else's body (past, present or future). This will sometimes include A wanting revenge on those that have wronged them but not always.

Just watched the second episode. And totally fell for this thing. We're gonna do a board for it. Laugh and point all you like, but this series has something going for it. The Qing invade at the end of episode 2 and I'm so curious to see how the story evolves. Already I've had to read and learn a bunch of history that's new to this forum, and it's important and interesting stuff. I'll save it for February, after GKW ends and after we're done with KOTW. We have a few of those other older historicals to watch besides KOTW, and I definitely want to do at least one of the ones that Sean subbed too. But this one is only ten episodes so it won't take long. And from the first two epsidoes it's absolutely worth a shot, even if it's not everyone's cup of tea.

But this one is only ten episodes so it won't take long. It actually has a total of 20 episodes and they are currently considering extending the series for 2 or 4 more episodes. Surprising that you like this series since you didn't seem too fond when we suggested watching Mr. Sunshine a while back, which was another historical setting drama that has fictional main characters.

Guess I have to defend myself here...One, I'm not opposed to doing historicals with fictional characters. We did Kingdom here and I embraced it wholeheartedly. Okay at first maybe not as much lol, but once we saw the quality level. The board for it is still active, hoping they'll pick it back up at some point (seems unlikely after all this time but we'll see).
Second, I did forget about Mr. Sunshine, mea culpa. But my not putting it at the top of the list was partly due to it being a 20th century drama, not really that far back in history, and mainly due to it being on Netflix which requires payment to watch. Many people do have Netflix subscriptions but I don't like to assume everyone does. But actually I just checked on DramaCool and it's available there now with subs...not sure how or when that finally happened but if we can get it for free I'll add it to the list and won't forget about it.
And third, my understanding of My Dearest is that there's a Part 1 and Part 2, each ten episodes. I don't know how clean a break there is between the parts, but the ieda is do Part 1 and see where it ends up. If it finishes strong we can do the other ten too. Even at 10+10 it's a short series.
Just wanted to clarify.

The Qing invade at the end of episode 2 and I'm so curious to see how the story evolves. I personally think the film Fortress is the most accurate historical when it comes to Qing invasion.
