@ nuwildcats
Going West on Bryn Mawr won't get you to any K-stores I can think of being there.
I do know thee are definitely two Book stores/Cds/Dvds etc. On Lincoln Avenue one ion the East side of Lincoln just west of California Ave and the other about a block farther north on the opposite side of the street - approx. 5790 N. Lincoln. They have a couple of clerks in both stores who speak fairly good English. They are, as most Koreans I have met, very helpful and courteous people.
Coming from the East, if you can get to the Brown line/Rabenswood train, you can take it North and get off at the Western avenue stop; the Lincoln Ave buss can be boarded there going north, I belie it is Bus No 11. I would check the CTA schedule tho because I am not sure of the times sched or whether they run at all on a Sun/Sat.
You are correct in that it is a very scattered area of Korean stores and residents. LA has a big Kora Town area and they have an abundance of stores that sell everything. When I was there visiting my grand daughter, I took a little bus ride there and stayed all day and into the evening - I had to literally pull myself AWAY. - I had such a good time and the only Korean words I knew were hello and thank you. LOL Lovely people.
I hope you find what you are searching for soon. I am sorry that you have had a bad experience with dramafever. I also had a problem with broken links with mysoju. In fact, the drama I was watching was Love and Obsession and it was yanked off channel 41 at about episode 128 or so of 150 eps show UGH. Someone suggested mysoju so I went to that site and for a few episodes it was great; then it started with the broken links stuff. Consequently, I went to drama fever and finished watching the entire show on that site with no problems at all
Each of us have had to find a way to watch our beloved K-dramas, whether historical or modern. I just recently finished watching KING OF BAKING - KIM TAK GU; I loved it. It is one of the best modern K-dramas I have seen - ever. Of course, Yellow Handkerchief is a close tie in my opinion.
In any event, I do hope you find a suitable place to purchase K-dramas and OSTs. You never know where you might find a gem that has been overlooked before. So good luck in the hunt. Have a nice week-end. ;D

soapygrams: I love you for providing this info...it saves me over 45 min each way on the buses that make stops every single block all the way west. Lincoln Avenue is almost close enough to walk to in good weather and I'm going to try to steel myself from going on that CD/DVD store expedition until an outdoor event takes place nearby in a couple of weekends. So, thanks so very much. While up on Lincoln, I'm going to try that Korean restaurant a Korean referred me to (and will post it to the thread on restaurants now).
I thought it was dramafever that I'd tried viewing QOTG on. But after re-checking online, it doesn't even carry QOTG. What I've done tho is view watchable episodes or pts. of episodes on mysoju, dramacrazy (but you have to watch 2 :30 ads before you can even open the Episode part to see if it's one you've already watched, and if you have, then you have to wait thru another 2 :30 ads, and so on. Several searches led me to sites that no longer carried the "aged" drama... I was out of luck with dramaidol, gooddrama, yesasia, and a few other links. So thanks again for the really useful info!

Update 2-04-2013: Taking the advice here, I went ahead and paid +$80.00 for KBS' official copy of QOTG's box set through jinyhaus on eBay (after finding the Lincoln Ave/California Korean store does rentals only). This deluxe box set is absolutely beautiful, great filming of the beautiful mountains of New Zealand. Despite that, at about Ep 16 or 17, the translations became garbled and unintelligible forcing me to search online sites to find out what was being said. No doubt, there was a shift in translators toward the kdrama's ending, but what a disappointment after a perfect home viewing of QOTG.
Re: walawala.net. I used them for kdrama OST's twice now and was pleased with the price and quality of the copy. However, one problem with small outfits like this, even when the Seller made the mistake, the Buyer gets stuck with the "mistake." In my case, I bought what was advertised as the OST from kdrama "Lovers." Shots from the kdrama were used, the cast was listed and the tracks were written in Hangul which I can't read. Turns out it was a compilation of tracks from any kdrama featuring lovers. Walawala.net corrected the listing and said I should have read the Hangul listings. Turns out, Yim Jae Bum's featured song, "Go Hae" ("Confessions") is one of Korea's top ballads in recent history and could be had free on YouTube from any of a number of covers as well as the original. So this is what happens when I'm only peeking in at another (very different) language.

Wow, nuwildcats, words to the wise. I had the same experience when I bought "Lucifer" through an online seller--wonderful captions through Ep.4, then completely uninteligible drek. Sorry you've been burned with those.

Thanks for your sympathy, Bo. Is there anyway around that? I thought by buying the official copy I avoided the horror stories people have posted. But the QOTG copy was so beautiful and the lessons taught so powerful that even with ruined translations I'm bothered less than I was with $13.00 lost to walawala.net's on its wrongly-advertised "Lovers" cd with bonus dvd of trailers of various lovers dramas. Was "Lucifer" an expensive copy, too? Bummer.

I wonder if you got a pirated version that just claimed to be "official"?

Not sure what a pirated version would look like. The outer packaging was liberally plastered with "limited edition" and SBS International logos (not KBS, as I thought). The box set came in embossed linen-y card stock, with waterprints extending from the outer box through all 7 discs. Each disc came photo stamped with a scene from the drama. Rich subtitles until the end. And you know as well as I do, when dealing with international vendors trying to communicate with them on a completed sale would be a futile effort.
