This thread is for discussion of episode 4 of The Musical. Please check the drama info & schedule thread for more info and rules on how to avoid spoilers and such. --------------------------------------------------------- Jae Yi doesn't want to work with Jin because he knows that if he does it'll be Kang Hee playing the lead in Gu Jak's musical. Jae Yi wants Eun Bi to get the role. Ra Kyung goes to Daegu to see Jin's parents. While there, she learns that Jin's mom is ill. Her illness is being kept a secret from Jin and the rest of the family. That's why they moved to Daegu under the pretense that Jin's father was quitting the family business and becoming a painter. Jin comes up with the idea of double casting Kang Hee and Eun Bi. Kang Hee agrees to do it. She wants to test Eun Bi and see if she belongs on the same stage as her. After meeting with Jin about the role, Eun Bi turns down the offer. She doesn't want the role handed to her because of Jae Yi. Eun Bi asks Jin to hold an open audition for the role. She wants to be chosen fairly and not because of favoritism. Eun Bi asks Jae Yi to be fair but he tells Eun Bi he's going to be honest about his feelings. Jin, Jae Yi, Kang Hee and President Han are all judges for the auditions. After everyone auditions, it comes down to Eun Bi and another girl. Kang Hee has the tiebreaker vote. --------------------------------------------------------- I don't really get President Han's reasoning for marrying Kang Hee but people do crazy things for love. I wonder how long Ra Kyung will be able to maintain the secret about Jin's mom.

Hi Knov-- looks like we might be the only ones watching this Overall, I like this drama, I don't really care for the way Eun Bi acts sometimes, it feels like she is a high school student instead of a college student--she acts so naive and clueless sometimes that it looks like Jae Yi is more of a older brother instead of a possible love interest. It will be interesting to see how that plays out and I agree I wonder how long Ra Kyung will keep the secret about Jin's mom and how all that adds to the drama.....

I'm watching it also. It's cute and I do agree that Eun Bi should be a bit smarter than she is acting. After all, she was a medical student; works in a morgue and must have a good brain to get into med school -- The writers should have taken that into consideration when writing this character. Also, the director should tell her to be a bit less teen-ager and more of a grown up twenty-something - I don't know about Korea, but her after a few years of pre-med, then med school a person is usually in their twenties by the time they get to second or third yr med. I am still getting all the characters in order and their names etc. I had to watch a few eps back-to-back in order to catch up - just finished ep 4. the Kang-Hee character is such a bi#$h. she's married; Jae Yi has made it clear he is not interested in resuming any sort of love affair with her and yet she thinks she can get what she wants from him. Lady - WAKE UP. Right now i don't care much for her husband - either. He seems like a cold fish sort of guy - not too much feelings maybe that will change as the story goes on -- maybe not - -

I agree on Eun Bi. President Han and Kang Hee's marriage doesn't make much sense to me. She's a strong personality and not the type to do anything against her will. So, why would she want to enter into a loveless marriage?

Actually, Kim Raewon pops into my head every time I see Eunbi. I don't know, she's growing on me. As is the relationship with Jaeyi. It's sweet, although clearly doomed. I mean, she grew up living next to Jin's parents! Where ELSE can this go? lol...
Does anyone know exactly what "Dae Hak Ro" is? All the musical people keep referring to it, esp Jaeyi and his wild-haired friend. Is it like Dowahseo for Joseon painters?
I'm only halfway through, will post more when finished.

So I finished ep.4 this morning. Fantastic.
I think they made a boo boo in the beginning--they showed that scene between Kanghee and her then-fiance now-husband in the show preview {"you need me as a husband"}--as though it had already happened! Very confusing. And yes! Why exactly does she need him?
Speaking of confused, I see I was mistaken about Jin and Eunbi growing up next door to each other. His parents are clearly in a health center close to Eunbi's home, not long-time residents. Poor Rakyung, trying to do the right thing...I like her so much and I like her with Jin, but as I may have said before, we all know where THIS usually goes.

And yes! Why exactly does she need him? It even goes against how Koreans tend to look at celebrity relationships. An actress/singer dating or marrying a songwriter wouldn't be that big a deal. I mean, sure, it would garner attention if they are both big celebrities. But, much like in the US, it would become yesterday's news once another celebrity became the topic of the day. An actress/singer dating or marrying an executive/president of a company would be more frowned upon. It would give the general public the impression that she's sleeping with the boss to further her career. So, President Han's explanation that Kang Hee should marry him to make rumors about Jae Yi and her go away, makes no sense at all.

Yeh, I was thinking the exact same thing! She's marrying management, that's doo-doo-no-no, right? Didn't Lee Tae-ran get into trouble for this exact thing? Weird.

Yeh, I was thinking the exact same thing! She's marrying management, that's doo-doo-no-no, right? Didn't Lee Tae-ran get into trouble for this exact thing? Weird. Really? I didn't know that about LTR. The last time I heard anything about a female celebrity being criticized over who she married was a KBS announcer several years back. She married the future head of a large corporation. She was at the height of her career but gave it up when she got married. The criticism wasn't so much about her but about the pattern of announcers marrying into wealthy families. Korean women felt it set a bad precedent for younger women. That no matter how educated or how successful a woman was in her career, she'd gladly give it up to marry a rich man.

I agree with that! It's a stupid precedent!
With LTR, what I heard (on this very board) was that Who's My Love was her "comeback" show after getting into trouble for having a relationship (unspecified as to type) with her manager. I'm pretty sure that was the timeline. LOL. Who knows, it's been years now...
