He's the hero we deserved but not the one we needed.

Well, I finally finished watching the last episode.
I watched Great King's Dream after watching the final episode of this drama and GKD looks like complete joke compared to this drama.

I am still in the mid twenties watching this. Mainly due to computer problems and then some problems on dramafever -- episode would start to load then quit and freeze and then start over again -- think it is my comp that is t he culprit. It has not worked properly since it was overhauled. LOL Got a new hard drive but something is just not right. The family fried that did the work - for free - didn't have an OS to loaod on - so he used one he had - unfortunately, it's VISTA. I had xp=p and didn't have any issues with anything - now it's every other day something is messing up. time to start saving for a new desktop I think Comparing this show to others I have watched in the past, the realism of the battles is outstanding. some of it is so gory sort of makes me shrink back from the screen. Those polo matches were really exciting and extremely brutal -- but the realism is fantastic. Still plugging along with QSD and I like it - I can accpe it once I accepted it as a "fictional history stor". Having the twins story line truly was confusing at times to me - and this show brings home the point that TRUE REAL H8ISTORY is interesting and full of excitement enough not to ned fiction at all. As they say, truth is stranger than fiction --- I believe that. I am looking forward to ep to next. Truth, thank you so much for all the insights you have given us. Your grace is truly immeasurable Kamsa ham nida.

The subbing group has translated 50 but not 49, how annoyingly tempting to skip ahead.

I noticed something interesting wile doing some research on Im Yon and Im Yumu. Im Yon sent the Yabyeolcho to the southern provinces to enforce another mass movement to the coastal islands and mountain citadels of refuge. Also when Im Yumu disobeyed the order to return the capital, he sent men to prepare the PEOPLE to resist.
The secondary source I was reading said that the people grew weary of the war of didn't have the will to resist anymore.
Why the people though? Doesn't the guy have elite soldiers? And did the loss of support of the people cauuse the Sambyeolcho to turn on Yumu? Clearly Hong Mungye and Song Songrye managed to convince them somehow. Of course you mentioned that they were paid to do it but still....is it also possible Im Yumu's power didn't have a strong foundation?
Please help clarify truth
And why the heck am I so obsessed with an ancient man's death?

I noticed that this series is up on DramaFever now, all except the last few episodes. Maybe we'll do it officially here in the forum sometime.

I'm not sure what's taking the subbers too long. I was under the assumption that they died or something.

The last parts in which the clash between the anti-Mongol side and the pro-Mongol side is great. I love how nobody here is right or wrong in this matter. THis is brilliant stuff.

Episode 54: Wow! What a sudden and brilliant twist of Kim Jun's character from fairytale perfect and textbook noble to an uncompromising, paranoid warmonger. And it was all tangibly natural! This almost makes up for all the gripes I've had with the flaws of this show. The scene where his bodyguard advises him to kill an outspoken minister was eerily and piercingly reminiscent of one of Choe Hang's murder sprees; and if that didn't convince you the later repositioning and reassigning of all who oppose him paints him as no better (and in fact worse because the people in question were his close confidants) than the violent despot Choe Hang.
Also of note is the rise in the actors dramatic prowess in playing this twisted version of Kim Jun compared to his earlier work as a perfect hero, which he was never quite comfortable being. That archetype is or should be reserved for the Choi Soo Jongs of the world who can make inherently stilted material natural. This really makes me wish he played a more historically accurate Kim Jun from the very beginning as his talent for evoking paranoia and that look of something being "off" suits the violent, warmongering dictator very well.

^ Aye, this was the Kim Jun that I think were were pining for in the beginning. I'm a sucker for good guy turns bad stories. Like you I wish some of the more negative traits of the historical Kim Jun were present earlier, like an ambition to aim for the top but hey can't always have what you want.
There are probably some who think his change was forced, but I'd like to think the pressure of the power and responsibility he all has as well as his strong nationalism was cracking him. Also, his background was a slave, a lifestyle he hated. Submitting to the Mongols to him would be starting that lifestyle all over again.
I really hope this writer gets work after this, considering the world around him has changed...unless he conforms to it but that would probably be a bad thing
