Boardwalk Empire has essentially 2 types of characters, the crooks and the even worse crooks lol. I tried to think of a good guy on the show and couldn't think of one.
Capone is only a supporting character. The show revolves more around the corruption in Atlantic City. The central character is a corrupt politician, who despite only being the county treasurer, controls everything from behind the scenes.

Ginny, which evil doctor? Is it a "legacy" guy? I am sorry to see the old soaps go, even though I can't record (and therefore watch) them now. There really won't be anything like them any more. What other shows could I discuss with my mother from watching them with her 25 years ago? And still be able to catch up on what old characters are now doing? Did they cancel Young and the Restless? That show is (was?) stellar. The doctor has been there awhile, Dr. David Hayward. Some years ago, he spiked the punch with some experimental drug while most of the younger characters were on a cruise, causing a young girl to fall overboard and some odd couples to fall into bed while on the boat. There are 2 more past characters that he's said he's been treating, but so far their identities are a secret. I missed today; hope DH got it on tape. I hope these people don't need a continuing drug regimen.... I just found this abc.go.com/shows/all-my-children that says we can watch full episodes! Yay! And Wikipedia has a detailed roundup, by decade! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_My_ChildrenI don't know about Young and the Restless. Oh, yes, see this: www.cbs.com/shows/the_young_and_the_restless/video/$I used to watch Search for Tomorrow and Love of Life with my mom when I wasn't in school. Also, before television, Guiding Light and Our Gal Sunday were on the radio. Man, I'm getting old. (Have gotten old....? ) Our family went on vacation just when Holly was going to marry Robert IIRC, or maybe Robert was marrying Anna. Or the deaf girl was marrying Luke or Robert. Sheesh, a lot happens in 30-40 years! LOL. Anyhow, my mom taped a couple of weeks of the wedding, and she and her husband got hooked on General Hospital for several years. She didn't seem mad at me for that...

FOX made the pilot for New Girl available early via itunes. I went ahead and watched it. It was OK. It had its moments. Didn't leave me anxiously waiting for future episodes but I'll give it at least another episode before I decide one way or the other. Damon Wayans JR is replaced starting from ep 2. I liked his character in Happy Endings better anyway.

There are a few new shows that I'll be watching: One with Sarah Michelle Gellar, kind of a thriller where her life gets too dangerous so she takes the place of her twin sister who has committed suicide, I think; she finds that her sister's life is just as hard to deal with. It's called Ringer, on Tuesdays on CW (Ch.9?). (I'm looking at a weekly schedule that has prime time from 8-11, and it doesn't show PBS. www.tvguide.com/special/fall-preview/fall-schedule.aspx ) Mon. there's a scifi show Terra Nova at 7pm Wed. Up All Night looks funny, on NBC at 7, and at 7:30 on ABC maybe Suburgatory? Thurs. Big Bang Theory at 7 on CBS Fri. Chuck at 7 on NBC, --- Grimm at 8 on NBC, but that conflicts with Fringe on Fox. Fringe wins. Sun. Once Upon a Time on ABC at 7, - - Desperate Housewives on ABC at 8 I'm looking forward to PBS' second season of Downton Abbey, but I haven't seen when it'll be. Also Dr. Who; I hope it's at a convenient time.

On Tuesday I watched the series premiere of Ringer. I like the idea behind the show and will continue watching. My only fear is the series could become far too twisted [It's twisted enough as it is] and go downhill fast. Ringer would probably be better served as a cable series on a shorter run.
Last night I watched the pilot for the new NBC comedy Up All Night. I thought Maya Rudolph was going to play the nanny. Instead she's the boss. There were some funny moments but I won't stick with the show.
The pilot for The Secret Circle was available online even before it airs tonight so I went ahead and watched that too. So Britt Robertson completes the circle and that's why her schoolmates want her to join their group but others seem to be after her as well. I'm curious as to what that might be about but, to be honest, the pilot was disappointing and I'm not likely to continue watching.

The reason i started watching Japanese and Korean Dramas was because i got tired of our domestic product and found them inferior to other countries programming . Not all by a long shot but the bulk of Network Programming does little for me .
As to cable its BOARDWALK EMPIRE BILL MAHER SPARTACUS BORGIAS CAMELOT TORCHWOOD And sadly thats about it . To be fair a lot of the above i watch online ,cant afford Comcast Rates .

I watched The Ringer and I found it interesting although I had to re-watch the ending so I could understand who is who. I think I will keep watching it. Up all night was a big disappointment to me as I was expecting it to be funny but it was the opposite of that. Not sure if I will keep watching it. I watched the New Girl and I was also disappointed in it and Zooey kinda got on my nerves even though I usually find her adorable but I don't think I will watch it.

I think I let myself get carried away with my enthusiasm for the new shows. On the surface they sound interesting but once you actually watch them you're left disappointed. So far, Ringer is the only show that's likely to stick. All I have left is Prime Suspect. I was going to check out Pan Am but my Sunday night schedule is already packed.
I think I've been spoiled by cable and their short seasons. Once you get used to 10-12 episode seasons, 20+ episode seasons seem like a daunting task. I mean, seriously, who has that kind of time? LOL.

I agree short and sweet 12 episodes leaves you wanting more but how did we make it through 200 of EWG not to mention 134 of Dae Jo Young considering most of us complained about it from Ep 50 onwards.

The networks are really, really good at making promos for new shows. The promos make the shows all seem so good that you get drawn in. So the enthusiasm thing makes perfect sense, knov. Have to admit, the promos for "2 Broke Girls" seem pretty funny and I'm going to check it out. But we'll see.

Terra Nova on Fox, 2-hour premiere Mon. 9/26 at 7pm, still sounds interesting, but the built-in conflict makes it seem less so, IMO. www.fox.com/terranova/about/ It reminds me of a thriller I read (maybe by Dean Koontz?) about arctic explorer/scientists. It would have been exciting enough with the climate challenges and their personal foibles, but one of the group was a killer. Ugh. I hope Terra Nova turns out better than that book. Too bad their time traveling can have only one destination, the time of dinosaurs. Some day in the future, there will be an asteroid impact..... "Resettle humanity"?! www.fox.com/terranova/photos/#extras/cast:722891 How much stuff did they pack for that trip? wow!

Up all night was a big disappointment to me as I was expecting it to be funny but it was the opposite of that. Yes. I thought there would be ROFL moments. I mean, it's supposed to be a comedy about first time parents who are up all night because of their baby. Instead, what we got was a couple that kept lamenting how much their life changed since they now have a kid. But, of course, they bleeping love their kid. It's before Hawaii Five-O so I might check it out as well. Terra Nova on Fox, 2-hour premiere Mon. 9/26 at 7pm, still sounds interesting, but the built-in conflict makes it seem less so, IMO. When I first heard about the show, I thought it was going to be like the TV version of Avatar lol. It sounds interesting but FOX shows have let me down in the past. Plus, I'm still mad at them for cancelling Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. This is the big premiere week. I have at least 1 show to watch every day. Thursday will be interesting because I have 4 shows to watch that day at conflicting timeslots. That means I'll have to watch at least 2 shows via internet. On top of that, I have to find time for K-Dramas. Yikes lol.
