Sorry, guys, I'll try to cut this down later but right now I don't have time. =Bo
Ep.25:
Lord Kim tells San that he has weak gunpowder for fireworks. He tells San the festivities will be unforgettable, even for San. [Ha. Ha. Ha.]
Hong and Dae-su decide the festival will be the assassination attempt. Dae-su figures the Queen is in on her brother’s plot, but Hong can’t be sure, even though he’s always been suspicious of her squeaky clean persona. Lord Kim’s sudden return means the Noron’s have lost power, so something must be afoot. Hong tells Dae-su not to tell San, but to tell Chae and Nam without telling them Hong knows, so San is not uncomfortable. D-S fills in and recruits his two cohorts to follow Kim and Jeong and report to Hong.
Apparently there is only one gisaeng house in the capital, and Lord Kim goes there to secretly meet with the Minister of Culture, who is in charge of seating at the festivities. He tells him to change where San and Hyeoui sit, but this will be difficult as it is the same every year. Outside, the head guard asks the madame to find out what’s being said at the meeting. She can’t, and he leaves.
The second guard follows Jeong, but apparently is too far away to hear him say Lord Kim will try to assassinate San at the big party. Jeong and Princess discuss this harebrained plan, and decide they must stop it, because whether it works or not, there’ll be a big problem for Jeong and Princess.
Eun. Nam tells Sir Chae of Dae-su’s report. Sir Chae says it’s true it’s a dangerous time, but this is speculation on an old man’s words. But they agree—after D-S accidentally almost reveals Hong’s involvement—to figure out everything about the event so they can decide what might happen, and to tell San that something is up.
San is experimenting with the FT’s newfangled water pump. He sends it to the farm for testing. Sir Chae comes in, and San asks if he should show the FT’s work to Yeong-jo. Chae agrees it is a good idea, and then asks to meet the old man (in lieu of reporting the assassination attempt). Chae later tells Nam that San is exhausted from earlier attempts, they should wait until they have more evidence before burdening him with this.
Dae-su and head guard spy on Lord Kim rehearsing the crack gunmen and bemoan their inability to tell whether one will shoot at San. They can’t figure out a way to get rid of the gun demo.
Sir Choi gets a frantic visit from San’s grand-uncle, who believes Lord Kim will destroy the Norons. When Sir Choi has an audience with Yeong-jo and the Queen about the celebration, Y-J wants to cancel the fireworks and have a quieter celebration in light of the citizens recently killed and the economic problems. The Queen talks him into the fireworks, so they can all have good luck and drive away evil spirits. When she and Sir Choi are alone, he asks to cancel the assassination plans, as they are reckless. The queen insists they have to be reckless, they don’t have time because Yeong-jo will die soon. That’s why she called in her reckless elder brother.
At the gisaeng house, Mr. Lee paints the girls, who fuss over and make him feel good. He goes to visit and brag to Uncle, who is unhappy because he’s had to join a merchant clan and is getting ripped off by them. But Mr. Lee says “So-yang” is waiting to see him. Unfortunately, tavern lady overhears the conversation and wants to know what’s up. They try to cover by saying they were talking about “Song-yeon” but she heard them talking about undressing the girls, too. So Mr. Lee covers that by alleging he was talking about Uncle and tavern lady marrying and undressing each other. So while tavern lady thinks she’s getting married, Mr. Lee is asking Uncle why the heck don’t they? Uncle feels sick inside.
At Dowahseo, Damo and artists work madly. The new girl brings her tracings to Mr. Tak, who chews her out for drawing crooked lines and shouts how stupid it is to allow the useless Damo to draw. Mr. Park leaves in disgust, but Song takes the tracings back to Mr. Tak and cheerfully talks him into giving the Damo another chance, pointing out that even the artists make mistakes and have to start over. Later, the Damo agree with each other to work even harder.
At the palace, Hyeoui snubs Song in the courtyard. Lady Kim exults in her fearsomeness, and Hyeoui is surprised as she didn’t mean to be cold to Song. Hyeoui scolds Lady Kim for making her rude to Song, and decides she’s not being fair because she isn’t asking Song about the suspicious happenings. Lady Kim doesn’t see what the problem was, as she told the truth to Hyeoui.
While San is visiting the FT, some young men arrive. The guys and the FT say rude things to each other and then laugh uproariously; they are his students. They demand to know who San is, and he gives a false name and history. The men proclaim that he’s another loser who will now waste his life, and then again they all laugh together. San then learns the two men are “Royal bastards” (literally) and had nothing to do but dissipate their lives until they got sick of it and tried to kill themselves, only to be rescued by the FT. The FT asks about the other royals, and they all disparage them for festivities at the palace when people are starving and freezing. The FT scolds them for not doing something with their lives, but as Royal bastards, they can’t have governmental positions of any importance. San objects that Y-J now allows “half-descendants” to attain high positions, but they sneer that the nobles won’t let such persons have so much power.
The head guard follows Lord Kim to a secret meeting (where he gave the palace arsenal master instructions and money to escape after killing San), then follows the master. However, someone hits the guard from behind and leaves him lying there. When he reports to Hong, they figure out that the conspirators knew they were being followed. Hong says, “We’ve failed.”
However, the arsenal master has been kidnapped by Jeong’s man, and is being held overnight, apparently to stop the gunpowder plot. At the palace, festivities are in full swing and everyone looks relaxed and entertained, when the gunmen entertaining the royals turn their guns on San—and Lord Kim is one of them, for this is Lady Hye’s nightmare. She wakes up in a sweat and immediately runs to tell San that she is uneasy with Kim in the palace, as he’s the one who falsely incriminated Prince Sado. [So they’re taking that stance, are they.]
Early next day, Jeong brings the doctored gunpowder to Princess, who gleefully runs to see the queen. Jeong claims he averted a great disaster by rescuing the gunpowder from San’s men, who “knew the plot” and were following the arsenal master. Princess sadly asks why she and Jeong were not informed. After some sparring, the Queen sullenly agrees she’ll make sure Jeong and Princess know everything about any plots in future. Then she and Jeong go home, crowing all the way.
Because the queen believes their story that San knows about the plot, she calls her brother in to cancel it. Lord Kim goes to ask the arsenal master what happened, and when that guy can’t tell him, he beats him severely and even tries to kick him to death. Then he tells his cohort, the Minister of Culture, that they will proceed with the plot, overriding the Queen’s order.
Dae-su plus second guard bring the festivity map to Hong, who needs last year’s map, too. But they’re kept at Dowahseo, and it’s illegal to take them out, so they recruit Song. While she searches for the map, Dae-su creates a diversion for the guards. Hong compares maps, sees the seating arrangements are different and concludes the shooting demonstration will be the assassination attempt. He wants San to stay home. Dae-su (not revealing Hong) reports this to Nam and Chae, who finally report the assassination plot to San. San refuses not to attend on mere suppositions of an assassination attempt, as he’s lived with the possibility of death this long and he’s the prince, it’s his duty to attend. Dae-su reports this to Hong, who gives up.
Dae-su plus two make their preparations. At Dowahseo, Song tells Chobi not to expect Dae-su at the festivities. Also, Mr. Lee pretends to be sick so he won’t have to go, as he wants to paint gisaeng. Mr. Kang will go instead. Mr. Lee buys some sparklers for the girls.
Mr. Hong goes to work at the shate-gathering facility, where he sees soldiers making fireworks and realizes the plot. He rushes away. At the palace, where Lord Kim has everything in order, San’s two guards almost (but don’t) catch the man who is booby-trapping the fireworks. Lord Kim, Princess & Jeong meet accidentally, and San walks toward the festival grounds.
