This drama was excellent! The love story is gripping. It’s mainly a love story, but with a good dose of historical drama, a second love story, and a host of characters. I loved seeing how the couple start out so innocent, and quickly become the victims of the political intrigue. To say that Seungyu comes back as a ninja isn’t quite right. He comes back for revenge, and was already well training in sword-fighting. The heroine, Seryung, was very strong and not sappy. The acting was superb. The screenplay, filming, all excellent. My criticism is that the last few episodes were a bit choppy as the writers tried to rap up the story. And second, KBS subtitles could be improved, vastly.

I borrow it from someone, so I'm not sure exactly where it came from. The subs were by WITH-S2, Written in the Heavens Subbing Squad (or something like that). I liked the series so much, that I purchased it. (a bit pricy but complete with photo book, disk of out takes and calendar and nicely packaged in a flat box). The KBS subs were definitely not as good. Anyhow, more impetus to learn Korean!

This was only my second encounter with WITHS2 subs. Maybe I've been lucky. Here’s a sample, from Episode 7, when Seungyu (after previously trying to avoid & forget about Seryung) can no longer ignore his feelings for Seryung. (I’ve split the names into 2 syllables because they’re so similar.) KBS subs Seung Yu: I said I didn’t want to see you again. Why can’t I erase you from my mind? Se Ryung: Why are you doing this? You were so cold and you pushed me away. I tried so hard to forget you. Seung Yu: I don’t want to lie to myself anymore. I can’t ignore my feelings anymore. I’m not going to push you out of my heart anymore. I couldn’t control my feelings. Too bad if you don’t like that. WWTHS2 subs Seung Yu: I told you not to ever appear before me again. Why don’t you vanish from my mind? Se Ryung: After all you did, why do you subject me to this? You took no notice of me, with such nonchalant disregard, and now… Seung Yu: I can no long continue to ignore my feelings. And neither can I pretend they do not exist. From here on in, I shall only listen to what my heart is telling me. And that is to abandon all hesitation and come here, so nothing you say will change my mind. *** To me, the WITHS2 subs fit the historical period. As for KBS: would you ever say "to bad if you don't like that" to someone you love? (especially early in a relationship. ) ... just my opinion... (and don't ask me why I have hand written copies of subs!!! :

I did watch some of this but have a bad case of Joseon Dynasty burnout Maybe the music reminded you of Dae Wang Sejong? Maybe the same person wrote the music for Princess' Man. I thought it was a good connection, since the first king, Munjong, was Sejong's son.
