Short synopsis of Ep. 6:
The president of GBS demands that Wujin audition for the anchor position. Myung-eun is furious, and she and her father (a senator?) have dinner with the heads of the rival department who pledge to back Myung-eun. Taesok ends up insulting his boss, who is touchy because he thinks Taesok disrespects him. Wujin is supposed to prepare for the anchor audition, but Taesok keeps calling her out of the preparation classes to demand that she cover a story about an elderly "faceless angel" philanthropist ("Nana Makne"). He wants an interview or it won't air, but Wujin wants to respect her privacy. He agrees, but says, get it anyway and blur out her face. Nana Makne is admitted to the hospital, and Soonchul gets her medical records and a photo of her. Wujin gets him to cover for her at the hospital. While Wujin prepares for her audition, she gets a call from Soonchul sayings granny is in intensive care and is being operated on. Taesok catches Wujin, who rushes to the hospital; Soonchul commiserates with her about her fate, but she says, this is the way it is. She goes to sit with the family. They rebuff her, but she says she just feels bad about Nana Makne and they can forget the interview (this seems true). They recognize her from the Jang interview and let her stay, and they discuss how other reporters seem to be just waiting for their mother to die. They're impressed by Wujin's vigil at the hospital after the operation (she stays even when the family goes home). After she finds out that Nana is better, she asks the caretaker if she can get an interview. No way, but have breakfast with us and I'll take your phone number. Wujin, however, must run to her audition. She looks like heck and rival Myung-eun tells her so. There's a lot of smack talked between all the candidates, both on the male and female sides. Wujin panics when she is called in. They explain the rules and start rolling the prompter, which fades in and out in her vision. As she reads, it is aired live on the internet. Her colleagues in the newsroom watch her, but Taesok makes them turn it off. She stumbles badly and is not showing much charisma. Myung-eun is mean to her about it, but Wujin applauds the other girl's (excellent) audition. Taesok learns his boss wants him to head a new investigative reporting show on weekends. Wujin comes into the newsroom, depressed, after her rotten audition. At the hospital, Soonchul tries to comfort her, but he goes to far and she yells at him for criticizing Taesok intemperately. She goes to the second round, talking to her Mom on the phone about the audition, and Taesok overhears. He makes disparaging remarks about "these kids these days," and she flares out and challenges his assertions. Why shouldn't she pursue her dreams?
*** What I wrote earlier:
Hah! Taebok was stymied. That's what happens when upper management takes a fancy to someone. She's like a ping pong ball there, poor thing, bouncing from him to the anchor orientation. Pretty funny stuff.
It's hard to sound out (what is her name--the mean girl). Myeong-eun? Kinda feel sorry for her at this point, she seems like a trophy daughter.
