What about the rebellion of Hong Kyongnae in 1812? I am sick of the historical dramas featuring the kings and their courts. And whenever they mentioned about japan and china, there is always hostility towards these 2 countries, even though Koryo was a loyal fan of Mongolia's and choson a sincere worshiper of Ming. The choson police series were not bad though.

I can understand why you'd be tired, considering almost all of them consists of conspiracies and whining palace women constantly screaming crown prince this crown prince that
Hong Kyongnae, leader of a farmer rebel army who gained control over much of the northwest, even seizing the heavily fortified castle of Jeongju. At its height, the rebellion controlled most of the area north of the Cheongcheon River. Killed when the ROyal Army took it back.
Nice to see another fellow who knows Korean history, after not coming here for five years.

The choson police series were not bad though. The rebellion of Hong Kyongnae was already featured in the Way of Merchant(2001-2002). It's true that Chosun was a sincere worshiper of Ming, but Koryo was not a loyal fan of Mongolia. Koryo had no choice but to obey Mongolia

Oh yes precisely i am tired of looking at the bunch of old man who goes please think it through my lord, and the kings who have nothing to do but to get involved in the issues of his women.
Something like "the way of the merchant" (sangdo) and the choson police series is what i would like to see more in korean historical dramas.

I'd like to see a dramatization of Wonhyo, the Silla monk. His story is interesting. For those interested, here's an article HERE: www.koreanhero.net/Wonhyo/MasterWonhyo_Booklet.pdfIts likely fantasy armor will be used for the upcoming sambyeolcho drama, but I thought I'd share a few pictures of the Koryo dynasty regarding warriors. clubimgfile.paran.com/whabo/bbs/2006/0109/1136736295_6.jpgFrom left to right is the general, and I think the last two are supposed to be officers, the last one a special guard?. clubimgfile.paran.com/whabo/bbs/2006/0109/1136736295_7.jpgThe one on the left is the late Koryo, when Yuan still controlled it According to a book by a Song diplomat which was called Koryo-dogyoung, armor was black iron or leather, and the generals sometimes left their helmets hanging behind them. The generals also had this word 巾 on their heads. It also said something about generals would tie their waists with a silk belt and there would be a flower on it. THose pictures however have flowers on the helmet I went to a Korean museum and saw this painting, and it said that the soldier on the right was Koryo, the soldier on the left was Mongol. This seems to contradict the article truth gave me, unless the Japanese screwed up while painting this. But if we take that painting into account, the soldier's helmet seems to have feathers and doesn't seem to be wearing any protecton, unless the clothing is actually brigandine but not drawn properly chinese-armour.freewebspace.com/images/arm11a.jpgThat yellow armor is Mongolian armor during the invasion of Japan, which resembles the scroll painting. postfiles12.naver.net/data33/2008/3/31/219/coryo-daug5694.jpg?type=w2Artist's rendition of Koryo warriors. One on the left is officer of the late Koryo period, the one on the right is a Koryo soldier during the Mongol Invasion of Japan. Hey, truth, any comments regarding these?

I wanna see a drama based on the Taejo of Goguryeo. He is the King who finally made Goguryeo into a powerful nation. There is also great controversy as to why the sixth Goguryeo King is called Taejo. Some say he is of a different clan entirely than the previous Kings. That Chumo and his descendants had the surname of "Hae" but after Taejo took the throne he retroactively changed Chumo's name to Go Chumo to legitimize his coup. Others say it was actually Hae Yuri who userped the throne from Go Chumo (Yuri and all the kings untill Taejo had the surname Hae) and Taejo, who was Chumo's descendant, finally took the throne back to the Go clan.
I subscribe to the former theory because if Yuri was from a different clan then Onjo and Biryu, Chumo's sons wouldn't have given up that easily and leave Goguryeo. There would also be records on this from Baekje's side. I believe Taejo was from a different clan entirely and the rulers following him weren't Chumo's descendants at all. Which would also explain the hostility towards Baekje. If all the rulers post Taejo were Chumo's descendants they wouldn't have fought their "brother" nation so much.
So Baekje kings and later Japanese Emperors are the only ones who kept/keep Chumo/Jumong's DNA alive. Heh.
Taejo also lived to be 118 years old.

Yeah, I hadn't spotted it until now--would love to see more. I immediately recognized a couple of those guys even before seeing your explanation that they were inspired by some of the real actors we saw. Nice work--I can't even draw a bath so I'm always impressed by anybody who can do this kind of drawing.

ajk and DYC I've got more coming up. A few Imjin War and Gwanggaeto drawings. Now I only need to touch them up and get the chance to scan them. By the way ajk, which actors did you first recognize?

Mainly the two in the front, and also possibly the tall guy on the left. Don't ask me their names; I'm terrible with names--I just recognize their faces from historicals I've seen. The guys in the back, they don't look familiar to me (except possibly the guy on the far right; what was he in?).
Looking forward especially to the Imjin War drawings.
