I recently purchased the book Marginality and Subversion in Korea: The Hong Kyongnae Rebellion of 1812. This rebellion was covered in the drama Sangdo: Way of the Merchant (from the same guy who directed Dae Jang Geum), but there's alot of interesting information on it, such as Jeong Kamlok, a prophecy saying that the Yi dynasty will fall and be replaced by the Jeong, or that Pyongan Province was subject to discrimination to the point even the nobility there were looked down on. I wonder why there haven't been more works about this event. Is it because its not that well known? Or is it because the rebels are technically North Korean? The female lead character in KBS's fusion "historical" Love in the Moonlight, which is currently on air right now, is supposed to be the daughter of Hong Kyeongnae. lol Before you ask, she's a fictional character, who cross-dresses as an eunuch after her father's execution and falls in love with the Crown Prince. I don't watch this drama by the way, but I do read review articles on some of the fusion historicals that are on right now to get an idea about the story of these fusion "historicals".

truth can you give me a guess on the date range for that series? I don't have it listed in the timeline and I guess it has to go in there. Hong Kyeongnae's daughter, that would narrow it down plenty, but it's certainly smarter for me to ask you for your best guess rather than my trying to stumble around for one.
p.s. And now that I think about it, time to do the once-a-year check. I have six 2016 series listed in the timeline:
Hwarang: The Beginning (KBS 2016, 20 episodes): 540 - 576 Jang Youngsil: The Greatest Scientist of Joseon (KBS 2016, 24 episodes): 1401 - 1460 Saimdang, the Herstory (SBS 2016, 30 episodes): 1504 - 1551 Ok Jung Hwa / The Flower in Prison (MBC 2016, 50 episodes): 1545 - 1567 The Merchant: Gaekju 2015 (KBS 2015-2016, 41 episodes): 1863 – 1907 Scarlet Heart: Ryeo / Moon Lovers (SBS 2016, 20 episodes): time-travel drama
Any others out there that I overlooked? Obviously I'll add Love in the Moonlight, but are there any others? I'll also add planned dramas for 2017 if you know of any.

So I was looking up the hats that the Koreans soldiers wore during the fight with the Russians, and found myself wondering whether the gunmen looked like this: or this: (I'm referring to the one in the round hat) www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVh_PjnQD4UTruth often pointed out that alot of Joseon dramas neglect the brigandine armor, but some countries have dropped using armor with the rise of gun warfare, though that didn't stop the Japanese. Did Joseon soldiers drop using armor at some point? That image of them in black clothing didn't just pop out of nowhere. And apparently those hats started spreading after the Imjin War and Manchu Invasions.

Thanks truth! All updated.
Now let's just hope there will be more series to add in the future.
p.s. I also added the Imjin War series. Really it's more of a mini-series, but better to include than exclude.

Yeah he's very good. Has posted other stuff here in the past. Totally jealous of people who can do that. It's a gift.

Recently on the internet I found a history book called "Women in Korean History," which details prominent women in Korea. I had hoped to buy it, except on Amazon, it costs $100, so I just used the google books preview to read up some of it. The one that caught my attention is a member of the Korean independence movement, Yun Hui-sun, the wife and daughter-in-law of a father son independence fighters, who apparently started a women's militia. books.google.com/books?id=p3yW5MdzKnUC&pg=PA193&lpg=PA193&dq=yun+hui-sun&source=bl&ots=w5fo9hTmsr&sig=t3kVcTzva4c1JHeeXijzp6PIHog&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjOgtv3qvrQAhWDo5QKHfGTCc8Q6AEISDAL#v=onepage&q=yun%20hui-sun&f=false This is good if only for the fact that it would be a female lead in a male dominated genre. Probably be a miniseries though. Though I gotta say, when I first saw the title, "The First Women's Militia Leader," I thought she actually took part in battles and was disappointed that the book didn't describe any.

I want a dramatization of Cheok Jungyeong. Preferred writer would be the writer of Jeong Dojeon.
If it happens, it should be divided into 3 main parts.
1. Yun Gwan and Cheok Jungyeong's war against the Jurchens
2. Lee Jagyeom and Cheok Jungyeong's rise to the top in political scene and downfall
3. Myeocheong's Rebellion
Please, KBS, make it happen. No more stupid fusions.

Wasn't familiar with him but after nosing around on the Internet, yeah that could definitely make a good series. Plus it would fill in the huge gap in the timeline between Iron Empress and Age of Warriors. Nearly 150 years not represented by any historical. Good suggestion.
