I knew someone would say something about accuracy. Oh, by the way, Wakizaka had more than one encounter with Yi. Hansando, Myeongryang and Noryang. What do 16th century samurai armor look like; were they more cuirass like? And did Japanese generals were those coats?
Considering that the drama is about Yi Soon Shin, and that Kato, Kuroda don't combat with Yi, (Konishi was in Noryang), I guess they had to make someone more prominent than the other.
My dad and I once had a discussion regarding the depiction of Won Gyun. He knew that drama Won Gyun was inaccurate, but he disregarded that and saw it in a different way. Historical dramas with artistic license tend to be more of a metaphorical truth rather than factual truth. The way he saw it, portraying Won Gyun as starting out as a noble man was supposed to show the potential of good human beings had. It's true. Human beings do have the potential to be good. I don't know about you, but the real Won Gyun could have had that potential. Ultimately he was destroyed by his own arrogance and self rightesousness. Also a funny thing I found out. In Seonjo sillok, King Seonjo describes Won Gyun as "brave, but doesn't think much". Most likely a misjudgement on his part, but you can't help but compare those words with drama Won Gyun.

Good points ,funny thing though was that the Japanese had no problem with the depictions in the drama ,i did make the point about the armour and crests ,because i felt it was down to laziness from the producers ,just get one of those Osprey Books for 20 bucks US and they could have used the diagrams, but really that's a small blip and does not detract from the drama ,unlike say that Cruise film which i found to be really bad because its full of stuff that never happened yet the producers claimed it was true. I tried once to research Wakizaka not much info ex pirate turned navy under Hideyoshi (who actually told his commanders to wage a war of hearts and minds not brutality )he flipped to the Tokugawa side for Sekigahara and lived to old age ,in the grand scheme of that time period he was a nobody ,the Imjin War was his only role of semi importance as he transported troops and weapon's . en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wakisaka_YasuharuTurnbull who wrote this piece neglects to mention he was a pirate and was one of Nobunaga's Naval Captains.

Wait, what, wait--Tom Cruise did a film about YSS? You know, I stop watching that guy for ONE MINUTE.... LOL. Seriously, which film do you mean? Did I miss part of this conversation?

That wretched Last Samurai piece of garbage .Did not mean he did a film about the admiral but rather how he reworked history to suit his vision ,and thats a fact i read the original screenplay that was written about 20 years before it was made ,it covered the Satsuma Rebellion and the Cruise character was just a Military observer . Now i have to mention the film HEAVEN'S SOLDIERS(2005) where a modern military unit walk into a time warp and find a younger Yi Soon Shin who is a dimwitted thief ,so they have a few months to knock him into shape before the Japanese come ,despite the premise its actually very serious in places and very tragic.

The movie also seems to be a plea for Korean reunification, since North and South serve under Yi Soon Shin, a hero of Korea in general. When Yi first appears, you'd think he was Chun-su in the earlier episodes
