Rather i assume it was best actress as the broadcast was not subbed . Did she deserve it ?probably not as the cast of IRIS were loaded down with so many awards they could barley walk it seems KBS had to throw something somewhere else . Kimmy Sue got some type of award as well . The Iron Empress Table only had 3 people sitting on it being Chae ,Kimmy and that girl from Golden Bell All Star Challenge who played Saila (i got pulled up for this once and corrected as being Sai-La however both the original print i watched and the KBS World Print have her as Saila just one word ,so really various broadcasts have various subtitles depending on who translated it .).

I guess it would be awkward to give recognition to other cast members and not the "main" star. I didn't see Kimmy Sue's name on the list. I'm surprised Lee In (King Mokjong) didn't win anything. I would have picked him over Chae Shira.

mikey made a comment on the general board that this was probably a popularity contest and not because she did anything particularly worthy in IE. I don't know how popular she is or isn't, but after last year I'm very skeptical that these awards have anything to do with merit at all. Last year the young woman who played King Sejong's wife got the best actress award. She wasn't bad, but she wasn't unforgettable. More importantly, her part simply wasn't all that significant in the series. The woman who SHOULD have gotten the award was the one who played Sejong's mother. An awesome performance--the best of the series, no question. But nothing.
It seems like these kinds of awards are questionable and frivolous no matter where you go.

I'm sorry, tink, but I'm fairly certain those images overrun our guidelines: deiner.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=generalmsgs&action=display&thread=7676The one I checked was 405x600, so please check them and put in thumbnails if necessary. On another note, who dresses some of these poor girls? I refer, of course, to that dreadful sack on Kim So-eun. Comparing that to the really flattering (if a little startling) dress on Moon Jung-hee, I have to say if it were me wearing a swath of bright red bunting like Ms Kim, I'd be stamping my little foot at the designer. And what about the bathrobe on Park Eun-bin? Maybe you had to see it in person... Bo PS - Kimmy Sue? LOL. You guys are like THAT [cross two fingers together], right?

Man, I don't get this at all....maybe there is something I didn't get??? Or, maybe they had to toss a bone to the star of their hyped-up KHD which ended up sucking wind? when I think of all the great supporting actors on this series, and not seeing them mentioned, I dunno....and how on earth could they not give something to the actress who played the Khitan Empress? ? She stole every scene she was in! And ajk, I always liked the actress who played Sejong's wife....her character really went thru a LOT, and she played the many facets of a princes/King's wife well. I clearly remember the scene where she overheard of the King's blindness, and her facial expressions (there were no lines for her in the scene) were wonderful.

I'm surprised Lee In (King Mokjong) didn't win anything. I would have picked him over Chae Shira. I second that. One can only hope the award was made of wood to match her performance.

and how on earth could they not give something to the actress who played the Khitan Empress? ? She stole every scene she was in! While I wasn't as enthused about the Khitan Empress as most people were (yes, I know I'm in the minority here) you're sure right about her stealing the scene from Chae every time she appeared. I just thought that it wasn't so much the actress playing the Khitan Empress doing a fantastic job (she did a very good job, maybe not fantastic, but certainly very good) but that Chae was just so dismally bad. Which again makes us all wonder how Chae walked away with that best acting award. I think ajk is right: these awards don't mean much of anything. I mean, how seriously can you take these awards, when you see the final results?

Sorry Bo. I was hoping you wouldn't notice. I had the same thought about the dresses. What were the designers thinking. Empress Dowager Chengtian (Shim Hyejin) definitely was more entertaining than Chae Shira. I thought King Sejong's wife did a very good job but I think Sejong's mother (Choi Myung Gil) did a fantastic job throughout the drama. I'll never forget the death scene with King Taejong (Kim Young Chul) and the Queen. Both of them gave quite a performance. They seem to choose the younger actors and actresses over the seasoned ones and as everyone said, it doesn't always depend on the quality of the performance. Just think how much worse it would have been if Kimmy Sue (Kim Sukhoon) had won A Top Excellence Award too. Good one zorro. ;D

TheBO, I liked your comment on the dresses. I have noticed that even the "everyday" clothes that you see on the women doesnt seem to fit. Nayun's skirts look like a sack or bunched in the wrong place. Is it because they are so small and have no hips or boobs to make the clothes fit properly???

A similar observation came up on the recent SBS comedy/drama show "Smile, Honey," where the rich snooty woman, and the straight-talking poor woman were verbally having it out.
Poor woman: "That looks like an expensive dress. Where did you buy it?"
Rich woman: "In Milan, Italy."
Poor woman: "Well, that explains it. That dress was cut for Western women. That's why it's all loose and wrinkly around the chest. It looks like you're wearing a bag."

Kimmy Sue got an award for something ,and he gave such a loooonnngggg speech the whole auditorium fell asleep save the Empress Table which seemed to wax glowingly at him . I Wondered what Lee Chae Young was even doing there save to be the horse voiced cheerleader , bad luck for her i guess its back to being hostess on the Golden Bell All Star Challenge .

Except for IRIS, which looks like it may be decent, it was an exceptionally dismal year for KBS. A bigger surprise than Chae Sira was the (unbelievably irritating) Gu Hye-sun winning two awards. The series she was in was unwatchable because of her.
The poor writing and ridiculous historical distortions are what sunk IE, although Chae Sira's wooden acting didn't help it much! I agree that these awards are meaningless and poorly chosen. Still, I'm happy for Choi Chul-ho. I didn't like him at all in DJY, but he was one of the best things about IE.

Sorry Bo. I was hoping you wouldn't notice. I had the same thought about the dresses. What were the designers thinking. .... ROFL. What the heck ELSE is going on around here right now? If I see pictures, I'm lookin' at 'em, tink. I wonder what designers they are using? TheBO, I liked your comment on the dresses. It's like one of us booby Western women trying to wear those lovely hanbok. Just ain't gonna go... Bo-you-doesn't-has-to-call-me-the

IRIS deserved everything it won and more easily the best modern day K Drama i have seen (serious dramas of course ). I was surprised Boys Before Flowers did not rake up more awards but i think dramas that air earlier in the year are passed over in favor of those that air later .Or maybe because the original Japanese Version (well that was 1995 so i mean the 07 remake )that has spawned 2 seasons and 2 films is generally regarded as the best version of this franchise .

The Khitan Empress may have looked good because Chae Sira was sooo bad, mikey. But when you compare her performances in IE and Jolly Widows, you see what extraordinary range she has.
I echo everything said about Chae Sira's performance. She never got into the part, never owned it. I always saw the "acting" not the Empress. And she and Chiyang never connected.
I thought the actor who played Emp. Mokjeong was excellent. The role was a difficult one (all that pain and anger concealing a tender nature) and he pulled it off.
