Yoon Jang-hwa's life
KTY meets with his detective, who has Ms. B's things - they turned up at a pawn shop (or fence) in Gyeongsang province, apparently in Ulsan (this is way at the other end of Korea, and way on the other side of Chungcheong where she really is now as we know). He instructs the detective to search the area for whoever sold them.
Meanwhile JJH meets with Mr. Park, the police commissioner. He has looked into all the cases of persons who were found wandering, and nobody named Byeon Jeong-suk (this is her full name) has turned up. Of course there are three bodies she might want to look at … JJH then visits KTY's office, to let her know that she is arranging for Jong-hae to get her space in the Food Court at the mall, and while she is there she sees the jewels and KTY tells her what is going on with them. He is alternately hopeful, because there's a clue, and terrified of what might have happened.
Jong-hae signs her contract for the food court shop in the presence of Jang-hwa and Secretary Choi. She is bubbling over with excitement, oblivious to JJH's cares, and quizzes Mr. Choi about whether there will be likely men among her fellow shopkeepers. JJH blows her off, saying "I'm not your friend here" (at the mall). Jeong-hae gets sarcastic with her, calling her "Samonim" (Madam, or Mrs. President) repeatedly, but JJH doesn't want to listen to this, and she does have a lot on her mind. As she leaves the mall, Im Hyeok shoves his way onto the elevator with her, and starts quizzing her anxiously about what is going on, and saying how worried he's been, while all the while JJH just stares into space. "Who are you to worry about me?" she says at length. Hyeok is offended by this - "OK, deal with everything yourself!" - but as she leaves she yanks his leash again - she wants him to find time tomorrow to "see if she's alive."
The next day KTY has gotten word that they have "found the fence" - you might have thought they at least had him already, otherwise how did they get the jewels?, but apparently not. KTY wants to go and meet with him. Both KTY and JJH hit the road in their respective cars, KTY to go and meet the fence, JJH (who has excused herself with a lie about a friend's father dying) with Im Hyeok along to go out to Chungcheong to look at bodies.
YJH has no luck on her quest - that is to say, the body we see her look at is not Ms. B. The cop encourages her, saying that her relative may be alive after all, but at this she has a little bout of nausea - this is not, as I see it, because she is bothered by looking at corpses, but out of fear that Ms. B really is still alive along with her potentially ruinous secrets.
Meanwhile KTY and his team have tracked down the pawn shop owner at his home, a shabby farm way out of town. He claims not to have any idea who sold him the jewels - he says he never remembers that sort of thing. However, KTY comes up with a big bribe and promises a lot more when he remembers, and it does seem to jog his memory.
Hong Ryeon's life
Gil-ran is happy to hear that Ms. Byeon is going to stay with them "until her family comes and gets her." They play hide-and-seek together, and then later Ms. B starts going through all of HR's clothes and complaining they are vulgar and tacky! The only thing she finds that she approves of is this one hat, which of course she appropriates. HR sits down with Ms. B. and Gil-ran and goes through a list of rules. Rule one is, "nothing here is vulgar!" Two is to not complain about the quality of the food and clothes, which are the best she can do, and three is to live together as a family. Gil-ran backs her up on all this, and Ms. B actually responds well to this and is pretty compliant. Also, Ms. B has to come along with her and be helpful as HR tries to find some way to make a living. They all go to the rental office, and HR pleads with the agent - who is remorseful about the house business - to help her stall for time until she can save up for a new place.
Next day they are all eating snack food in a tent bar while HR reads the want ads but isn't finding anything. As they eat, Ms. B mentions that she likes HR's food including an "upside down thing", fried rice in an omelet. The bar owner suggests that she get a tent bar of her own. But of course HR doesn't have money to buy one. However, Han Suchan is on the scene for this conversation.
So in a later scene, Su-chan's sister, Su-ok, who has ill-founded pretensions to being a pop singer, has gotten some company to run off a thousand music tapes. She summons Su-chan back to the house and demands that he buy her tapes and distribute them through his company. When he blows her off, she holds one of his shoes hostage until he gives her some money! After he leaves in disgust, a phone call comes for Suchan - it is someone who wants to talk about his plans to buy a tent bar which will serve omelets with fried rice in them! Su-ok has no idea what this is about at first, but after she hangs up she recognizes Hong Ryeon's signature dish. Very agitated, she starts going through Su-chan's office and goes so far as to break into one of his file drawers looking for information on all this, and what does she turn up but a pile of photos of Hong Ryeon! "He can't like the woman who killed our father! It can't be!" she exclaims.
