Anybody else been noticing Hunae's hair in recent episodes?
Apparently the Goryeans were early innovators in the development of creme rinse and conditioner.
Amazing what these shows teach you.

I'm not at the same episodes as Chicago (watching in Phila), but I had to comment how Hunae’s hair bugs me. How is it that the other woman warriors have their hair tied back while Hunae is fighting with her long, loose hair neatly in place? (as seen in Episode 9) She twirls through the air to kick someone, and her hair never gets in her face. Her attendants must spend hours getting the knots out of her hair after riding horseback with it streaming behind her. Why is she the only one with bangs? It seems out of place for that period of time. It pretty rare for a hair style to bug me, but in this case it all adds up to being too unrealistic for me.

Thank you jojo.... I've wondered this as well. Had scissors been invented yet? If not, did she use a sword to cut them. I don't recall seeing any woman with bangs in these historical dramas.

Well, she may not be able to defeat the Khitans, but at least she's winning the war on split ends!

Also, wouldn't you want it pulled back or tied up so you don't get grabbed by the hair while fighting? Ouch.

Aside from their hair I've always wondeded why they don't wear helmets in the battle scenes in this series as well as other Korean historical dramas. (1) First of all, woman warrior itself is a sheer nonsense. As far as I know, we cannot find any records about woman warriors in Korean history. (2) Secondly, the woman warrior is none other than a princess or a queen. (3) Thirdly, she does not wear a helmet in the battle! (4) Finally, she is fighting with her long, loose hair neatly in place!! We are seeing four miracles occuring at the same time in Iron Empress. What recently spoils Korean historicals is surely not the actors but the writer and the make-up team.

In the opening credits, she looks pretty good in the winged helmet.
Candylover, I know there were warrior women in ancient times (Britain, the Amazons, etc.) but it does seem to me that early Korean culture was even more restrictive than it currently is and women had their place as wives, mothers, courtesans, and occasionally queens, but not warroir ones.
The Iron Empress was actually a historical character, right? I know she was supposed to have done some pretty crazy things. Was she really a bow and arrow marksman who rode to battle alongside her soldiers?

In the Italian neighborhood here in the Bronx, you buy squid ink pasta in little nests just like that.

Bo and puppy, I got a good laugh out of your posts. I couldn't quite think of what to call that swirl of hair other than a beret, but I like the nest analogy. ;D
