This is a thread for our East Coast visitors who are receiving the Iron Empress series. As of today, I know that the NY/NJ station will be airing it starting this weekend; it's also likely (but not confirmed) that the Philadephia station will be doing the same.
Everyone else, please keep in mind that the East Coast airing of IE is running a dozen or so episodes behind the Chicago WOCH airing. So let’s observe a special rule for this thread only: NO EAST COAST SPOILERS. This is the Chicago forum, of course, and everything else on this board is absolutely Chicago-schedule-based. But this thread will be the one exception.
And just for now, until we're clear on which station is showing which episode when, please put the episode number you're referring to at the top of each post. If the two stations are out of sync, we might have to resort to separate threads; hopefully that won't be the case.

episode 1ajk, thank you so very much for starting this thread. i hope i won't be the only one using it. just watched the first episode and i am about as happy as one can be to finally get an historical drama again. so many familiar faces.....chief among them my beloved lee duk-hwa. i actually felt my heart flutter when he first appeared. anyway, it got off to a good start and i can't wait until next week to see more.

I don't know their real names but the actor that played Dae Jungsang got my heart pumping, I'm glad to see him in it, I'll definitely watch this then. I saw Xue Rengui as well and was that Gulsabiwu in the previews?

Ep. #1 Yaay!! History!!!
I think I'm going to like IE as I loved DJY and the opening scenes reminded me of that drama. I too enjoyed seeing some old friends and the actress who plays the Queen (I guess soon to be Empress) is much more believable as a warrior woman than Chulin was in DJY.

WYBE aired the final episode of GKS on Sat. and Sun. I still don't know if we are getting IE or not. We could have been in sync with you. I have been watching online though.

Great--thanks, Betz. For now we'll leave the thread as is, but if it doesn't work out with Philadelphia and New York airings being just a little bit off, then we can do two threads, no problem. Just everybody please try to put the relevant episode number at the top of your posts so nobody gets any spoilers they don't want.
brooklyn, you're right, you saw both Xue Rengui and Gulsabiwu from DJY. And the Dae Jungsang actor, you'll be very surprised. His character is a diplomat--one of the most renowned diplomats in Korean history. A long way from playing a hard-core general, that's for sure.

ajk, is the actor who played Biwu in DJY a king in IE? The trailer for Ep. 2 shows him on a throne but acting weird and sort of crazy. Are we going to be surprised by his role too? I hope not. He was such a romantic figure in DJY with his loyalty and tragic love for Geumlan.

Yes, he does act very crazy but it's entertaining in a weird sort of way. I won't say anymore.

IE is the first historical drama that I have seen. I saw the first ep on Sunday. What time period is it supposed to be and who are the good guys and bad guys. They all looked alike-in armor and helmets, with beards, and dirty from all the fighting-it reminded me of Lord of the Rings.

Can someone explain how this time period relates to the one in DJY - which was my first historical drama?

(He died in 719 A.D.). The Empress is the granddaughter of Emperor Wang Gun, the first emperor of Goryeo. (The Goryeo Dynasty: 918-1392) This takes place in the late 900's A.D.

Everybody who's trying to get a better handle on the timeline of all this stuff, do yourselves a big favor and click on this: www.koreanhistory.net/drama/drama.htmlIt's a very nice graphical depiction of where all of the recent series fit into Korean history. Iron Empress starts just after "Dawn of the Empire" ends. puppy, I can't say much without spoiling, so I won't. I'll just say that his character certainly isn't boring.
