Probably not (im thinking this could be a good thing ). seems Chae Sira just gave birth to her second child shortly before filming and while KBS are ecstatic over the ratings Chae wants to spend time with the lil nipper thus nipping KBS plans in the bud . Remembering how great and evil Chae was as Lady Jami when Cheon Chu was announced i was really exited as this could have been a blood drenched saga of "Malice In The Palace " as it was in real life ,but all this Amzonian Warrior Queen who loves the land and people stuff is a bit hard to take because there is not a grain of truth to it .
I Cant figure KBS out with all the great Kings ,Queens ,General's ,Warriors still waiting to be filmed why pick a self indulgent despot and give her such a make over .
I do like the ever perky little "how do you do my name is Hwang Bo Su "and i wish we had more of her and her antics .
Here is a prediction when MBC debut "Queen Seon Dok "next month im betting it will kick Empress'es butt in the ratings .
As it is im in the minority for my disdain for this show as its a massive hit ,i also think that with KOTW and Sejong ,Empress had a couple of tough acts to follow ,as these were two of the best historical dramas in recent memory it left Cheon Chu with some biiigg boots to fill .
Is it just me ?but in watching this it seems to play like a Historical K Drama Greatest Hits package .

I agree completely, dyc--so far it seems like I'm watching a DJY-action-enchanced version of the early GKS episodes. Right down to the scheming, wealthy merchant with the foreman assistant and the private army.
If the ratings remain high, it will be interesting to see who gets picked as the subject of the next series--someone prominent, or someone who can be turned into a fictional hero.

I Would like to see another Goguryeo Drama either Jangsu (20th )king or Taejo (6th )King.
The not so reliable word of mouth though says either the 10th and greatest Dae King of Balhae or Goguryeo Warriors fighting for Tang .

The next traditional KBS history drama will either be about the late 1800's Chosun dynasty or King Mu(Dae Mu Yae) of Balhae(The son of DJY) according to the rumors. I'm hoping the next one is about DJY's son. DJY Season 2 here we go lol

Well THAT is very interesting for one reason at least. When they were extending DJY by padding it with ridiculous material, I couldn't understand why they just leave the storyline as is and go forward in history to fill the extra episodes. Maybe that's the reason--they were saving those years for a future series. It doesn't excuse what they did to DJY, but it could explain it.
I still think the brain-dead obvious candidate for a monster series is Gwanggaeto.

The thing is King Gwanggaeto was already made to drama by MBC in 2007, although it was 95% fantasy and 5% historical.

That is doubly bad news. So it won't be done again soon, and the one that was done wasn't even faithful? Sheesh. That's amazing, truth, because why would anybody need to turn it into fantasy when the real story is so good? I don't get it.
From some of the reading I've been doing, I think another king who'd be a good subject would be Gongmin. Seems like a great story, but I'm guessing it would be too complex to appeal to people. And it doesn't end well either. Too bad.

I liked the Gwangaeto drama a lot ,it had a very haunting quality pretty much it was more than similar to KOTW ,same love triangle ,same hair do's ,similar music but it had a silly wizard in a red cloak that looked like a Hammer films reject . It had many tragic elements that bought to mind Hamlet or Macbeth and unlike KOTW the spoiler in the love triangle is killed by Gwangaeto so justice is served but to late to repair the damage . Sadly the Malasian dvd i watched had an awful subtitling job .

Truth which Goryeo King is depicted in the film "Frozen Flower " This seems one to watch for and may actually see an art house release in the U.S .

Gongmin too? Geez, you guys are just killing me!
Well, with multiple networks doing these things they're going to have to start redoing each other's subject matter eventually. There's only so much history to go around. (That is, unless you start making up stuff out of thin air like DJY did.)

As far as making stuff up Empress makes DJY look factual . Now im trying to find some positive aspects to this drama and (sigh !!!)its hard very hard Going back to Ep 1 i noticed Cheon Chu had 3/4 lethal female sidekicks who can really fight and better than Chulin the former star of gothic schoolgirl horror film Momento Mori had reinvented herself in DJY and looked like a Korean Victoria Beckham caught shoplifting at Fredericks and fighting the security guards .
