Man, was the Ma-ro death scene overplayed, or what? I haven’t seen anything that melodramatic in ages. I was hollering at the television “Just kill him, will you?”
The Koreans have come up with some genuinely moving death scenes in years past . . . but this wasn’t one of them. But, since Ma-ro was among my least favorite (and least believable) characters, I'm almost happy to see him gone.
Yeah, I was kinda harsh. But this isn’t exactly IYSS - and I think that poking fun at some of the over-the-top scenes only adds to the fun.
It’s a good show, and I’m having fun watching . . . but I’m just not able to take it all that seriously sometimes.
I was wondering how the guards thought Hye Ap and Balso killed themselves overnight. There wasn't any evidence of suicide. Even Dojin fell for it.
Especially given that the Do-jin had been so heavily involved in all those secret poisons they’d developed. Didn’t anyone suspect that it might be a trick?
And then (conveniently) they just dumped the bodies outside the fort’s walls? Man, what if they’d decided to cremate the bodies, or even just bury them? What then?
And when Do-jin's people discovered the bodies missing the next day, why did they immediately conclude that they’d been tricked? Wouldn’t it have been just as logical that maybe wild animals had dragged the bodies off during the night?
Ma-ro's death scene would have been more heartfelt if it hadn't been dragged out as much.
Also, Ma-ro mentioned that Mu-hyool has tons of people willing to die for him. That's interesting because whenever Mu-hyool wants to go stab somebody, those same people are always trying to stop him. I guess they're willing to die for him but not with him lol.
I liked Maro alot. He was a regular guy and I found him quite believable. I like the actor too. It's interesting to see how historic drama fans can have such divergent likes and dislikes.
I sure hope you didn’t take my razzing of Ma-ro too personally. Even when I’m dumping on one character or another, please be assured it’s all meant to be in good fun.
I actually liked Ma-ro in the early going, when he was something of an innocent, bumbling doofus. It was that impossible transformation from bumbling doofus into fearsome warrior that just didn’t work for me.
For me, I think Ma-ro would have been much more appealing if he’d kept his general innocence, but been discovered with some hidden talent. Say, he turned out to be a dead shot with a bow-and-arrow, or maybe that he had a knack for mixing up chemicals. He could have stayed the innocent Ma-ro that everyone liked, while still providing Mu-hyool with a truly useful service.
But, as you say, everyone sees things a little differently. That’s why we have discussion boards.
The actual execution might have been less than 2 minutes but I would include the scenes leading up to it also. Just the thought of such a horrible death brought tears to my eyes. I even hoped somebody would shoot him with an arrow to spare him the agony.
I thought the same thing. What if they decided to cremate or bury the bodies? Also, while part of the Black Shadows, Muhyul, Maro and Dojin poisoned themselves to feign death in that prison cell. Dojin has a short memory concerning some things.
I'd like to know how Dojin knew they would try and pass through the quagmire?
I couldn't believe Yeon turned around and went back and gave her child up to stay with Dojin. Did she really think that would make Dojin stop wanting to kill Muhyul?
What a hot episode !!!!!! Maro's toast !!!!!!!!!! Mu-hyul must feel heated about that . than Billy Mays popped in with his non stick execution frame, all Buyeo warriors who call in the next 10 mins get two executions for the price of one . Sorry so Sorry i could not help it .
I hope other viewers haven't taken some of my comments the wrong way either. It's all meant in good fun. I really like KOTW. As Lucy said in the YMD board, part of the fun is poking fun at our favorite dramas.
I wrote this off line yesterday afternoon. Now I log in to post, and everyone's already sniped me!
Even the wording is the same in some cases. That'll teach me to wait so long. Here it is FWIW…
I liked him too, not much at first, cuz he was kind of a dufus, but he grew on me, especially after Mu-hyool was named CP. (the total opposite of Mikey's take)
The death scene was torture to watch tho. Just watching the four of them grimace for a half hour while Maro became toast was a real downer. I thought he deserved better.
And I had the exact same thoughts as Mikey about the "corpses". Very convenient to leave them outside the palace where they could so easily walk off. In "Deadwood" they would have been fed to the pigs… and if Dojin had thought about it, he would have searched them immediately upon arrest to take away any poisons they may have had just to prevent such an occurrence. That way he would have known someone had to have helped them do it, and should have figured out it was a trick.
I hope the last episode isn't as bleak as 33 and 35 were. After 34 I had a better feeling that things might go according to plan, but "that little" Bae-guk had to stick his nose in and ruin it. I hope he's first to get what's coming to him.
I Would not worry about the last episode because that will not be the end . The story continues in the SBS Series "Princess Ja Myung Go " I read on some posting way back i think on Han Cinema that the three networks MBC ,KBS and SBS all had early Goguryeo Drama's planned so the dept heads planned this out MBC took Jumong /Yuri KBS did Yuri /Dae Musin Muhyul and SBS finish with Dae Musin Muhyul /Hodong . It could be just a conspircy theory post i read, but thats how it will play out anyway . Myself we dont get SBS so lets hope Ja Myung Go hits DVD .
