I think that it would be a good idea to make a distinction between short spoiler information and a lengthy word by word episode summary. It is somewhat frustrating to have to scroll through a very lengthy episode summary just to find some short spoiler information about the program.

Elaine, I don't think that is necessary. I assume you are talking about the episode summaries being posted by pilseung in the spoiler thread. He is posting episodes of future shows, so the entire post is a spoiler. He has no way of knowing what specific information you--Elaine--are looking for. If you have a specific question, then you should just ask it in the spoiler thread, and perhaps someone will look up the answer for you.

Elaine, kindly post an example of "short spoiler information".I am curious to see what this would look like.Thank you.

Actually, I can kind of understand where Elaine is coming from on this. I know lots of folks love the lengthy episode summaries, but (for me) they are a little too long and convoluted to easily wade through. And, the extensive use of abbreviations also require just a little too much mental effort on my part. Heck, I wrote the character intro for this show, but even I find that all the "IH and YJ met JS at the park" stuff just stops me in my tracks sometimes.
As for me, I rather prefer simple spoilers along the lines of:
“In episode 12, so-and-so gets hit by a truck, and then finds out that she’s so-and-so’s long-lost daughter.”
But, since many folks enjoy reading the lengthy episode summary spoilers, who am I to criticize? And, so long as there’s only one “spoiler” thread going, there’s probably no way to get around this.

I have to say that the initials also throw me off. It seemed easier, as someone else has pointed out when we used nicknames-- Suky, IceMan, etc.
In spite of my having to stretch my brain, I really appreciate all the work that goes into the summaries/spoilers, and thank you very much. It has been especially useful when I've missed a show and then was able to read the episode that I missed.
Thanks again!!!

I see what you mean. The way I look at it,there are,at least, two solutions: 1)Someone like yourself or Elaine can post a short/simple spoiler summarised from the detailed one after the latter has been posted.(Put it in the original spoiler thread under an appropriate subheading)This would please all the folks, like yourself, that prefer reading simple spoilers. 2)Avoid the spoiler thread altogether. This way,you can avoid potential headaches, etc. Just my two cents.

;D pilseung That is a wonderful solution for those who only want to be a little bit spoiled. It makes a lot of sense and I wonder why no one else ever thought of doing it like that. Thanks for all of your hard work doing the spoilers and posting them on our board. I don't always read spoilers but if I miss an episode, it sure makes it nicer to be able to read about what I missed, so I can keep up with the storyline. As to the initials vs nicknames, I sort of like the nicknames because some of them reflect something about that particular charter; i.e. Screechy Mom from MSMD; or a shorthand version of the character's name: Sabby from YAMD, etc. Perhaps, some nice person would post a chart showing what initials = which character . . . Just a suggestion.

What's wrong with just using the characters' names? Use of initials drive me batty, especially when there's like three "MYs" in a show. And while some nicknames are quite evident, like "Screech Mom", others leave me scratching my head. Other boards go nuts with them. Who the heck was "Sno-cone", anyway (and, why?). And "Luxury Girl" gave up that luxury to be with her love, so the nick was no longer apt. Relationships can be inexact, too. On the "Mom's Dead Upset" board here, there was a thread where it wasn't clear who the 'MIL' was, since the MIL had her own MIL to give her grief. Of, course, names do have their own pitfalls. For instance, on 'You Are My Destiny', how many "Mr. Kims" are there?

"For instance, on 'You Are My Destiny', how many "Mr. Kims" are there? " Not as many as in Korea or even Chicago, for that matter.

Well, I'd say if someone is kind enough to post a summary, then they should be able to decide how to do that. If someone else does not like how they do it, then that person can just avoid the posts of the person who did the spoilers. It seems relatively simple to me.
Also, I believe pilseung is bringing us these posts by way of Soompi or summat, he's not actually writing them himself, so it seems hard to expect him to go in and change all the names all the time.

Those summaries from Soompi are a bit long-winded for my taste.

I think it is a great idea to have nicknames on the show for the characters. I can make a sheet of initials if someone really wants it, no prob there. Not a lot have been introduced anyway. I think the only confusing part of the spoilers is when the initials are incorrect. Which is why Bo made a good point of read it only if you really want/have to, otherwise just wait till the episode airs to avoid frustration. I read them anyway, lol, because I'm naturally curious, but short summaries are a good idea too. I would volunteer for that, but nothing about the way I summarize anything is SHORT. A minute will turn into an hour with me.

I’m not watching this series, but about those initials...I don’t like them myself, for the same reason as mikey—it starts to read like secret code and interferes with the reader’s flow. But I can say from experience, when I was writing the Sejong summaries, it got very irritating and time-consuming trying to type names like “Choongnyeong” and “Kyoungnyeong” correctly fifteen or twenty times an episode. I learned very quickly to use initials while I was typing along with the broadcast, and then do a global-replace for each character. So for instance, I typed a lot of “PC” for prince Choongnyeong and then global-replaced it out afterwards. Summaries can be so time-consuming to prepare that I can certainly understand people not wanting to bother with full names, but that was my solution. Anybody who wants to send it up the pipeline as a suggestion, be my guest.

My solution to this problem is to use the lawyerly route. That is, the first time you say someone's name, type the whole thing out, but from then on, use initials or a nickname. However, if used, these should appear for the FIRST time in a post immediately after the full name, e.g.: Lee Ji-eun (Tall Girl). Sometimes, it is easier to remember what someone is as opposed to who they are. Such as, older aunt versus Ji-eun. Also, sometimes a person's characteristics stick out so far, especially in an historical drama, that they acquire a nickname people use when discussing them. I particularly remember "monkeyman" in AOW. I think it was AOW. Which brings up another thing. Sometimes we use initials for TV shows, and if another member does not recognize it, they ask. There is no problem. (AOW = Age of Warriors, for instance.) I don't see why it's a problem to ask who "tall girl" or "monkeyman" is, either. Finally, there are perfectly acceptable initials used to indicate a person's family status, such as DIL (daughter-in-law), MIL (mother-in-law). However, I think that goes a little far sometimes, but that's just me. IHI. Bo
