Until I started this thread today, the last post on this board was May 31. Are people really not watching this show anymore? I am. I decided to stick with it, and I kind of like it now. To me, it's really a lot like "Who's My Love," though, I admit, much less charming. And the similarities go beyond its having the same granddad and youngest son. I like the mix of characters and the grudging, necessary acceptance of every family member's quirks. I like that Aunt is accepted despite her being a nudge, a bit out of control, and a rather nasty, annoying drunk. I like the young son's weird hairband, hardworking ways, and slightly odd, though kind and helpful, wife.
I thought the circumstances under which the titular "Mom" gave in to her older daughter's marriage were really beautiful and totally in character. The woman had been feeling so terrible about her life, and it wasn't until she met the wonderful prospective mother-in-law that we could see that it was really loneliness that was hurting her the most. She felt deeply sad about her life and unappreciated, so meeting someone so kind and understanding put back some of her missing emotional wherewithal. And, if the "kids" marry, she will probably have a new friend.
The only things I still hate are the mean mother-in-law and the way "Mom" speaks in that whine all the time. It may be soft and low, but it's a whine nonetheless.

I'm watching Lucy, I really like this drama, especially Becky the talking Mynah bird. I am glad that the eldest daughter is getting married, I know that they will have some hard times (after all this is a kdrama) but I'm sure there will be a happy ending for all. I don't even mind the mean MIL she is kind of amusing in the way that she doesn't realize that she is being so mean like when she told her DIL that her eyes were really ugly. The only character I can't stand is the exwife and the way she is teaching Sora. I will keep watching this drama.

I thought I was the only one watching… even during the olympics! I know you don't like her whining Lucy, but I think the actress who plays Hanja should be nominated and *win* an award for her performance. It's just outstanding. Far from Mommie Dearest (more like Mommie Dreariest) her self pitying does seem over the top at times. Yet she keeps her mind open just the tiniest crack, and ends up able to accept what she never thought possible. I admire her for that. And Yeongsu, who I really didn't care much for in the beginning is another example of the excellent cast and their performances. The look she gave her boyfriend when he came to her with open arms to signal acceptance was unforgettable. Hopefully there won't be a big letdown now that the daughter issues have been seemingly resolved. There's enough tension in the subplots to keep things interesting, so I still look forward to watching. So far my biggest complaint is Euna and her "Miss siss a Moooon?" I hate that.

Hi, "Dead Upset"-watching peeps! I forgot about the ex-wife and Sora. That's a subplot that is hard for me to watch. I hate to see manipulators get away with things. The only hope I can see for that situation is if, as I suspect, as Sora gets more actual exposure to her dad's new wife and less indoctrination by the mom, she will see that she doesn't have to be so afraid of the change or automatically hate Yeongsu. I don't remember the open-arm scene, zorro. What was the boyfriend accepting? I love the psychic daughter and the love-hate relationship everyone has with her abilities. I also like her crazy hair.

I've not seen as much of this show as I would like, but my first reaction to the self-pitying mom was a new title, "Mom's Clinically Depressed." But I admit I've known people who were like she is.

Lucy, Jongwon came back to Yeongsu's apartment and walked toward her with open arms to signal her mother accepted their marriage. I'm really interested in the Yeongsu/Sora dynamic. Sora's character really came alive last night in an almost scary way. So sweet in front of Grandma, but looks that could kill when alone with YS. With so many sweet kids in recent dramas, I'm ready to see a well played brat in this one. I like Unsil a lot. Love her look. She was missing last episode so I'm glad to see her back.

I keep missing the Saturday night episodes, but I try to watch. I'm hoping things work out for Yeongsu, with Sora and her father. I could not believe that Yeongsu gave in to Sora's mom dumping the kid on them last minute so she could go on vacation. For how long? She didn't know. How about forever lady?
I just saw a recorded episode where Becky says someting nice to the new daughter in law then told the mother in law to Be Quiet! Hilarious! She is going to bake that bird into a pie one day. Or Missus Moon will have to!

I’m a few weeks ahead of Chicago, which kind of limits my participation here. I’m never sure exactly where the Chicago fans are at any given moment, so I hesitate to comment. But I do I think this show’s good. It’s not fantastic, but it’s good. To me, it's really a lot like "Who's My Love," though, I admit, much less charming. Looks like Lucy's pretty darn perceptive, because "Mom's Dead Upset" was written and produced by the same team (Kim Soo-hyun, and Jung Eul-young) who did, in fact, give us "Who's My Love" back in 2002. ;D I agree, though, that even though there are similarities, MDU just doesn't seem to have that special, unique charm that had us all so much loving WML.

I LOVE that jonwon's mom and yeonseu's mom get along. I have never seen two in laws get along so well. and i LOVE Unsil's look too. I hope her character gets a bigger part in the show than she has now. I want to see more thing about her life. not just her drawing and sleeping.. i feel sorry for yeongsu. her step daughter is really going to cause waves for her...

Or Missus Moon will have to! You have to be careful what you teach a bird like that. Otherwise, you might be accused of contributing to the delinquency of a Myna ;D

WOW! I was shocked to hear that Yeongsu is having a baby!! What will her mom say? I know Sora will be upset. I would not leave the baby alone with her... I thought it was hilarious when Sora told her dad that she wants to move out and live in a studio apt when she reaches middle school.. It is sad though that Sora feels alone.. It is half her mom's fault for filling her head up with nonsense.. I know now why jongwon divorced her. Her character is not an honest and good one.

Chil sisters with Deokchil and Sora... so we know in the end, the kid is gonna come around.
We just got episode 1 tonight in NY and I'll admit I was confused for a time too but I'll watch for Mimosa and that girl with the crazy weave lookiing hair who sees dead people. I wonder if a Kdrama will ever have a half black character or has it been done already?

Finally!! Sora actually told her mom off for once!! What kind of mom blurts things out to her daughter with out warning. She knows that the news of Yeongsu's pregnancy will hurt her daughter but stills tells her in a bad time just to stick it to her ex!! She is not a good mom. Thinks of herself all the time. Taking vacations by herself and leaving her daughter where ever. That poor girl will grow up with many obstacles. She is so HURT that is why she is always lashing out.. I think she is a brat, but feel sorry for her because it is partly her parents fault!
