Did anybody else react to the sight of Yi Chun in his military armor leading his ship towards Tsushima? This is the same actor who played subcommander Yi Sun-Sin in IYSS. The sight of him commanding a warship, I just about jumped out of my shorts. Even all this time after IYSS aired. That series was in a class by itself.

Also ... since the IYSS drama was set in the 16th Century ... and KGS is set in the 15th Century, I find it remarkable that the 'uniforms' are basically the same. Isn't that odd?

I had no idea he was even in this drama. Can't wait to see that.

Well, GKs is produced by the creators of YSS, so I bet they are just using their old clothes. BTW, the follow up drama for GKS, which is Empress Chunchu, will be produced by the creators of AOW so I think the clothes for this drama will be similar to AOW

Yeah, it is 180 years between the two, but technology didn't advance at a breakneck pace back then. And if the uniform worked, I don't suppose they'd have had any reason to change it.
Maybe someone who knows historical military uniforms can help us out (and I know there are such people). But it wouldn't surprise me if things were largely the same across the two time periods.

Candylover should know! And it isn't like they had YSL, Calvin Klein and Gucci or whomever hawking "this season's military uniform" every three months showing widened lapels or cropped jackets or pointy toed high heel shoes as the latest in war-wear.

For the most part the Yi Dynasty were not very big on Military spending which is one of the reasons they had so many problems with the Japanese and later the Jurchens (Manchu Dynasty )because it was run by and large by pig headed scholars and defense was regarded as an un warranted expenditure . So next to no money was spent ,as to the navy its not unlikely at all that the uniforms and ships were the same over the 150 year period ,if the army was regarded as a trifling expenditure than the navy had no chance at all . What some IYSS Shin fans may remember and see in Sejong is the So Family in Tsushima ,though the So family were more a Samurai clan who were more interested in trade (un heard of for the Warrior Class to dabble in such things )rather than any fighting and were more wheeler dealers than Pirates . The real Sea Dogs of the Tsushima Area were the Murakami Clan who had both dominated and terrorized since the Mongol Invasions of Japan in 1274 and 1281 ,The Shogunate (rather the Hojo's who ruled through puppet Shoguns )unleashed the Murakami on both Koryo and later Joseon to punish Korea for their participation in the Mongol invasions of Japan .

I love your assessment of the ideology of the day in laymen's terms! "Pig headed scholars" made me snort...

We haven't seen this episode yet in Philly, but someone put up the clip of the departing ships on the Philly site, and I too went nuts as soon as I saw the "other" Yi Sun Shin. It was just like the good old days. (He probably WAS wearing the same costume he wore in YSS). And I was shouting "Pam-po-rahhhhhh" along with the commanders. Nothing like nostalgia.
