I liked how the spy in Ep 5 was speaking Korean with a Japanese accent (not that I could pick that up).
The Crown Prince's personality did change; quite a turn around from Ep 5, when he tells Choongnyeong he wishes he had not been born a Crown Prince. He seems to like it now. On the other hand, Choongnyeong seems to have become much less assertive than he was at 13. Looks like the consort's son, Kyoungnyeong, is on the verge of exploding with pent up rage.
I was surprised to see Min Muhyul help the Crown Prince. I thought Min was going to just watch the CP get killed, even though that's not supposed to happen.

That was good. I liked the way Yun Hwe tricked him into speaking Japanese. I feel sorry for Kyoungnyeong, like he said, he didn't ask to be born of a concubine. I hope he doesn't explode. His mother certainly doesn't help, she's going to be trouble. I can't believe she said she should have killed the Queen's sons.

The actor playing Min Muhyul is the same man who played Wang Guhn's sworn brother Shin Seongyeom (Seungkyum) in EWG.

Ep 7 & 8
I like how everything is progressing, so I don't have too many comments! Good to see Choongnyeong finally taking action (and being allowed to do so) without stepping on everyone's toes. The only problem is that the King will think that the Crown Prince is better than he really is. I wonder how long will the Crown Prince allow Choongnyeong to help him. I think eventually the CP will end up mistrusting him, due to his fears being heightened by negative comments from the CP's aids, which seem unrelenting. Everyone is so busy watching their own backs and own interestes, it's a wonder any progress is made.
Minister Hwang's subordinate is not only rude, but bordering on insubordination. I admire Hwang's restraint.
I liked the end of Ep 7, when Choongnyeong returned home and stirred everyone up with his thinking-out-loud questions. ;D
Looks like the connection with the side story of Jang Youngsil and Han Daion is through his knowledge of explosives. Unfortunately I read the list of characters on another thread, and ended up being spoiled on these two. On the other hand, the list has been very helpful.

I too was wondering how Younsil and Daion were going to fit into the storyline. When everyone was trying to locate Choi Haesan, I thought about Youngsil explaining to Daion how fireworks are made. If he can make fireworks, he can make gunpowder. I wonder if his ability will be discovered. I'm glad they found Haesan alive and well. That was pretty clever of Prince Choongnyeong and I'm glad he was given a chance to be useful. If the Crown Prince was being sincere, it was nice to see him treat Prince Choongnyeong the way he used to. I don't know if it will last, he seems just like his father, do anything to protect his right to the throne. It's a shame childhood traumas affected Prince Choongnyeong and Prince Hyoryeong. Fortunately Choongnyeong was able to put his fear aside and help the CP. His father really accomplished what he wanted by having Jang Won beaten to death in front of him. I hope Prince Hyoryeong can do the same. I wonder what "Doe" means? The CP called Choongnyeong doe and I'm sure it wasn't "deer." I like Yun Hwe a lot and can't wait to see the look on his face when he finds out Choongnyeong is a Prince. He's been calling him names quite often. I also like Yi Su. He's so wise and a great moral compass for Prince Choongnyeong.

Can't wait to see that moment too. These two are some of my favorite characters. Looks like wybe was zapped by lightening yesterday, so no Episode 10. I hope they get back on the air soon.

Ep 9 Eee-yuck! The execution of the spies and the near-execution of the lead spy was nas-tee. Followed by the callous actions of Foreman Jeon in knocking off his interpreter (just like that), presumably because the interpreter knew too much, but still! People are used, abused and eliminated very quickly. Liked Choongnyeong's replies to the Crown Prince in the library on the usefulness of a reference book on Japan. Choongnyeong has been coming up with good defenses for his ideas everytime the CP is negative. Nice to see Choongnyeong busy with his wife in transcribing info. Looks like they have a good relationship, in contrast to the other marriages we've seen so far. I don't see why the King followed Hyobin's advice to visit the Crown Prince. It seems very suspicious that she was so insistent, since she's always promoting her own son. The CP has been getting into some hot water lately, and now he's about to get caught with the former king's consort. tsk tsk tsk

There was no episode #10, so I don't know what happened, but I'll bet the CP had plenty of time to hide his lover. It WAS a pretty weak excuse (tea?) to get a king to visit someone, even a CP, at that late hour. I'm surprised that the king went for it. He's not usually so compliant. Maybe women are his weakness. I hope it's not a convenient situation cooked up by the writers just for more suspense. Even if he gets caught, the CP is pretty manipulative...he'll worm his way out of it and get her killed if necessary.

ajk has been writing summaries of each episode. (Thank you ajk! ) It's back a few pages. I suppose wybe will go to Episode 11 this Saturday, so it would be good to know what happened in Ep 10!

Thanks to wybe for showing Episode 10, after broadcasting problems last Sunday. Another gruesome torture scene, this time with Jang Youngsil. The thing that made this one really bad to me was Han Younglo’s attitude towards his daughter. If he had wanted her to be separated from Youngsil, he could have been sent away. Daion’s father’s actions were very cruel, sadistic, and icy cold. She is still young and innocent (naïve even) to the ways of the world. I loved seeing the Crown Prince stand up to the Ming envoy , even though it was probably a bad diplomatic move. It looked like the envoy was taken back a bit, though he tried to hide it.

I wonder what "Doe" means? The CP called Choongnyeong doe and I'm sure it wasn't "deer." Doe is his birth name... Choongyeong is his prince name... Thanks for the explanation Ducky. Since then I've heard the Crown Prince called "Jae". EP. 9,10,11 I didn't like the execution scene either jojo, especially the part with the leader of the spies. Ghastly. I also was very upset with Daion's father. I thought he gave his approval and the next minute he's having Youngsil beaten. What a horrible father! I feel bad for the remnants of Goryeo and I understand their rage, but they're very cut-throat. "Come to my office and I'll give you triple." The informant was killed in the blink of an eye. They've also stirred up a lot of trouble with Ming. How do they know for sure if a war is started that they will be safe from Ming? It looks as if this is the time period identification tags were first introduced. It doesn't seem to be going over very well. Even Yun Hwe made a ruckus about it, especially the colored attire. He's one of my favorite characters. I like the Crown Prince's boldness. Although he made matters worse, he was the only one with the guts to stand up to that arrogant envoy's condescending words. Everyone was upset and angry, but they all just sat there, even the King. On the other hand, the CP is a bit of a cad. I realize the marriages are prearranged, but he treats his wife awful. "How can I repay you for saving the woman I love?" What a slap in the face. Then the Queen says "Get a tight hold of the Crown Prince's heart." She's not to blame. I was very surprised to see the Crown Princess walk in on them. I guess she has her spies just like everyone else does. I can't believe the King fell for consort Hyobin's plot either. It was so obvious she was up to something. Things really ended on a bad note. The scholars being beaten and arrested and the possibility of the CP being sent to Ming.

I'm surprised that Baron Ok seems certain of a war with Ming. His visit to Han Younglo seemed premature and risky. Ok's put some pretty big ideas in Han's mind about his daughter becoming the future Queen, but what if it doesn't happen? Perhaps Ok sees the King's diplmatic skills being so deficient that he won't be able to get out of the current situation. Baron Ok doesn't know about the hugh wild card: Prince Choongnyeong. I can't wait to see what he comes up with. I have to agree with the Queen: the King is very weak in diplomatic relations. The king and ministers don't seem to know how to play the game. The sumptuous feast was such a disaster (even without the CP's actions), I felt sorry for Minister Hwang. I agree: the Crown Prince is a Cad, with a capital C.

Baron Ok Hwan is trying his darnedest to make it happen. I think by dangling the idea of Han Younglo's daughter becoming the next queen is just to lure him in. He has no plans on actually allowing that to happen. Just like the informant, he'd use him and lose him.
I agree about the King's diplomatic skills. Whether it's due to his age or perhaps he never had them.
