For everyone who's wondered where the various historical dramas fit into the timeline of Korean history, there's a very useful graphic here: www.koreanhistory.net/drama/drama.htmlThere was some discussion about this on another board but I thought I'd post the link here and sticky it for easy reference. GKS isn't marked in the graphic just yet, but I think it started around 1407 (we first saw him as a boy of around ten, and he was born in 1397). In any event, it's early Chosun and overlaps just a bit with Tears of the Dragon. The graphic is very useful as far as getting a handle on the different kingdoms and series.

News story about Tang empire shipwreck: The treasure trove making waves Simon Worrall explains why a recent discovery on the seabed of the Indian Ocean will revolutionise our understanding of two ancient civilisations. [snip] They had stumbled on the oldest, most important, marine archaeological discovery ever made in South East Asia, an Arab dhow - or ship - built of teak, coconut wood and hibiscus fibre, packed with a treasure that Indiana Jones could only dream of. There were 63,000 pieces of gold, silver and ceramics from the fabled Tang dynasty, which flourished between the seventh and 10th centuries. Part of the most important, marine archaeological discovery ever made in South East Asia. The artefacts from the find are nearly 1,200 years old Among the artefacts was the largest Tang gold cup ever discovered and some of the finest Yue ware - a porcelain that the ancient Chinese likened to snow because of its delicacy. The exceptional quality of the goods has led some scholars to suggest that these were gifts from the Tang Emperor himself. ginnycat5, thank you so much for that wonderful article. I watch the BBC news a few times a week but missed that one. I like watching because they often have stories that you might not see otherwise.

You're welcome, Tinkerbell! I decided that must be a pitcher or ewer, though, because it's hard to drink out of a dragon's head.

Maybe it would be timely to have a historical drama message board ,i know for the big ones like Sejong they have their own and the rest go into other shows but what i have noticed is i do not see much crossover in posters from say Sejong to Other Shows and yet there is such an interest in these dramas and with a whole truckload coming in the next year . anyway its just a thought !!!no biggie .

Because this thread gets a first-page Google hit when you search "Korean historical drama timeline" despite being inactive for six years--and because our big timeline project doesn't get anything but a third-party hit on page 11--I'm adding a link to our timeline thread here: deiner.proboards.com/thread/9661/korean-historical-drama-timeline?page=1Hard to figure those search results...but hopefully we can get people to the good stuff through here at least. P.S. Because this thread is in the GKS board, which is in Off Air, I'm closing it now so we don't get people posting to two threads on the same subject.
