Just as an experiment, I put together a character roster and posted it as a sticky thread above. It occurred to me that it might help us follow the plot more easily if the basic facts on all of the characters were gathered together in one place. I’m not sure how well this will work, but I’ll try to keep it current and we’ll see what happens.
The roster contains only information revealed so far in the series; there are no show spoilers or historical spoilers. Since it’s for reference purposes and not discussion, I’ll keep it locked and will only open it to modify it. If anybody has any corrections or additions, post them here in this thread and I’ll incorporate them.
Also, if anybody (maybe one of our Korean friends?) can dig up some avatar-sized pictures of the characters that I can post in the roster, that would be MUCH appreciated. It would be great to be able to link names and faces.

I'm lovin' it, ajk! Your character roster is just priceless! I've already printed it out, and sat it beside the easy chair for tonight's broadcast. Once again, my thanks to you for your tireless efforts.

Thanks, much needed!
Especially for the Ministers, since they all dress alike ;D As they say in baseball, "Can't tell your players without a scorecard."

Good--I'm glad it's helping. It's helping me, too. This is one of those things that's easy to do if you start early. I wouldn't have wanted to start it at E50, but it will be easy to modify it going forward a bit at a time now that it's started early in the series.
And I agree completely, Soju--those ministers are driving me nuts! The uniforms are enough of a problem, but I'm very bad with faces which makes it worse. It seems like every episode there's at least one scene where a minister walks in and I don't know which one he is! I guess we'll get more familiar with them as we see more of them. But I still would love to have some photos to add to the text.

It's WAY helpful. Sometimes they flash the name of the character as they appear in the beginning of a sequence and then you go, oh yeah, that's the so and so who is allied with such and such and has this or that agenda...then the dialogue makes more sense and you waste less time trying to remember who they are and what their motivations are and can pay attention to the subtitles.
I thought I was the only one who had difficulty remembering the faces!!

"Oh, Yeah! Him!"

Thanks from me too!

Hi, Ajk ! You are doing Greak Work ! I stopped watching DJY long time ago. But recently I'm interested in GKS even if there are many ficitonal stuffs. (I'm actually in South Korea. Thanks God !) You can find some photos from KBS official site. www.kbs.co.kr/drama/3jong/report/photo/index.htmlEven thoug these are not avatar-sized photos.... I'm following Ajk's spelling. All characters are historical EXCEPT those labelled as "fictional" Prince Choongnyeong (The future king Sejong) Prince Choongnyeong (child) Queen Wongyeong Princess Shim Crown prince Yangnyeong Crown prince Yangnyeong (young) Prince Hyoryeong Prince Seongnyeong - Fourth son of King Taejong Prince Seongnyeong (child) Prince Kyoungnyeong Hyobin Um Jachi (historical) and Jeong Ogeun (fictional) - Um Jachi is historical personage. I guess Jeong Ogeun is fictional. Um Jachi was killed by Prince Suyang (second son of Sejong and future king Sejo) during the reign of King Danjong, grandson of Sejong. (This is not a spoiler because it will happen after the time of our hero. ;D ) Crown princess Chogungjang Uhri (Eori) : Crown Prince's girl friend. Jeongjong Park Eun Baron Ok Hwan (fictional) Foreman Jeon (fictional) Muby (fictional) Jeon Ilji (fictional) Daion aka Han Dayeon (fictional) Jang Youngsil Yun Hwe Yi Su * Edit : Eunch Jeon Ilji is also a fictional character.

florel--This is wonderful; thank you so much for digging these up. I went onto the show website early on and stumbled around clicking things, but I didn't come up with too many photos. These are a very good start. What I may end up doing is cropping them and making a separate photo thread to go with the roster. You're right, the photos are bigger than avatar-sized, but maybe it would be better to have them larger and clearer, especially with so many different characters to sort out.
No hurry, but if you do manage to turn up any more photos, I'm sure everybody here would appreciate them.

You and ajk (who also has immeasurable grace) do very much to keep us centered on this drama.

Hi, florel, nice to see you again! How long will you be in Korea? Thank you for the pictures! It helps to see them with their names spelled out.

i was just reading the character roster and the character Granny Cowears; it states that she has some responsibility over the eunuchs. i was just wondering, i started to watch King and I and in that it shows the process the a child goes through the become a eunuch. and there was an old woman that was the one that trained and also picked the eunuchs. do you think maybe that is what she does? just wondering.

I don't know, jinju0, but it sounds like you're probably right. From the way that other people talk to her, she's definitely more than just a housekeeper or cook; she has some kind of significant role. Hopefully we'll see enough in future episodes to figure it out (and to figure out where the heck a name like "Cowsears" came from!). If you catch something that I don't, let me know and I'll add it to the roster.
