Thank you all for your views - they are all valid as far as I am concerned. ;D I have introduced k-dramas to a few friends over the last 18 months or so and one of them said, " Some of the acting is so bad that it is GOOD!" he is now a k-drama addict! That view certainly confirms what you were saying tinkerbell - ;D Hi Kathleen, so you know Prozac or Johnny Walker as well do you? kekeke ;D ;D Bo, I can understand where you are coming from. I guess none of us want to see the dark side of human nature whether it is portrayed in a drama or in real-life.

As I recall even Korean viewers were miffed about historical accuracy in the drama. Remember the fiasco with the trutle boat sinking episode? People were up in arms about it. I like this drama because those were only relatively minor details that didn't betray the "spirit" of Imjin Waeran and Yi Soon shin. And that's what really matters to me. All in all there was nothing significant that was blatantly inaccurate anyway. In that regard, IYSS was generally accurate. Notice how the Japanese guy only noted inacuracies about Japanese armor, clothing, and throne etc. It sounded like he was really fishing for something to invalidate the series. That just makes me laugh.

LOL, Tinkerbell, you have some very good points.
And UKFan, please. I wasn't saying I didn't like to see the bad side, I was saying when we have it, let's have some accuracy. But Tinkerbell shot me full of holes--she's right, there was overacting on both sides.
Maybe my impressions have something to do with the copy of IYSS that I am presently viewing, which is compressed from 104 eps to 36. (Cuts out all the early information about YSS's youth, up until he is about 42, and it's hard to tell why ANYONE would follow this character.) Almost the first shot of a Japanese is the exalted Toyotomi, stroking his beard as he looks wildly out of the backs of his eyes. If you can picture what I mean. Pure vaudeville.

Having finally got to see this and must confess ,i do like it but not as much as i hoped So i wonder how the Japanese will react to the depiction of Samurai in this . This is also what i found wrong about this though not as bad as that godawfull Cruise film ,but here are some points A general is seen wearing the Tokugawa Hollyhock crest ,the Tokugawa were not in Korea . Sen No Rikyu did not commit seppuku to protest the Imjin War . The swords are worn incorrectly , The top knots are chinese not Japanese in fact they are closer to the Jurchen's who are also depicted incorrectly . Hideyoshi is called Emperor in some scenes thats untrue he was only regent . Hideyoshi never wore the Oda mon (crest )as depicted here . As far as non Japanese depictions of Samurai this at least try's to get it right . Anyway the thing is i was able to put all this aside after a few episodes and just enjoy it for what it is . Its funny because NHK have wanted to do a jp/korean co -production on the Imjin War for some time but korean tv networks always can the project maybe this new deal will pave the way .

So, DYC, may I ask where you come by all this historical knowledge about Japanese costume and such? It seems so esoteric. I would never be able to figure that stuff out, LOL. Are you a student of Japanese history?

yes i am ,i started watching samurai films as a kid ,than decided to learn JP History so i would have more of an idea about what was going on . Now i am cramming Korean and Chinese History too . I just like to really learn about what really happened ect . I do like IYSS though despite my niggling complaints (also always thought Wong Kyun was more of a slime ball sneak as opposed to the loudmouthed blowhard depicted here )and every time they cheer for the Left Cholla Navy it gets the blood pumping . Like myself most fans of samurai/film /tv drama's that have seen IYSS really like it and dont really care about the historical blips unlike say that stupid Cruise film ..that makes me want to throw up .

Well, I'm impressed that you actually take the time to learn some history behind your favorite movies. So many people don't do that.
I can't remember the Cruise film you are talking about. Sounds like that's best. LOL.

Yes thats it ,god i cant even bring myself to say the name ,its so horrible ,its such a distortion and misrepresentation ,ditto all those tie in History Channel Doc's that came out at the same time . There is a 4 hour 1989 tv movie titled ''Goryokaku "(means 5 points being the name of the fortress where the Samurai made their last stand ). That depicts how after the end of the Shogunate in 1867 the Tokugawa Navy and some French Foreign Legion and about 3000 ex Tokugawa Samurai (inc the famous live fast and die young Shinsengumi )all sailed to Hokkaido and declared themselves the Republic Of Ezo which they held until June 1869 when the Meiji Forces pretty much annihilated them . For a tv movie its a big budget production with an epic scale ,great drama and battles and totally guaranteed to make you weep buckets . much better than that nonsense from the ego maniacal midget .

Admiral Yi Sun-shin Movie Theater to Open in Namhae County The patriotic heroism of Yi Sun-shin has been brought to life in a 3D movie.
Namhae County recently said construction is underway to build a movie theater that will exclusively screen films related to Yi. Namhae County says 14.8 million dollars have been spent to build the theater located in Chamyeon-ri, Gohyeon-myun. The construction, which was launched in 2005, is slated for completion in July. The state-of-the-art dome-shaped movie theater resembles Gyeobukseon, or a turtle ship, an innovative vessel of the time which the admiral designed himself. The building comprises two stories and one basement level. Namhae County says it will create a documentary film on the life of Admiral Yi as well as the Noryang Sea Battle by August.
The film will feature vivid battle scenes using cutting-edge computer graphics.
The theater complex will also accomodate an exhibition hall, a tourist information center, agricultural stand and a parking lot.
A Namhae County official said the movie theater will offer Koreans a great opportunity to learn about Korea's greatest naval hero. He also expressed hope that the movie theater complex will establish itself as one of the leading tourist attractions of Namhae County.
