Kevin, I would imagine you'd have to pay something, but it must not be much if Dalhyeon and Chan were sleeping there night after night.

"Foment" in English means stir up or bubble up. It's a good visual word but I wonder why the subs don't just say "steam baths"? Unless they're different from out steam baths.

One meaning of foment is 'to incite', but the other meaning is to apply moist heat, as with a compress.
I think the difference between a fomentation room and a steam room is that the steam room is hot, but the fomentation room is just warm.

Kevin: I had googled Korean fomentation rooms a while back, and learned that these places in Korea charge a small fee, and you could stay there all day. They are often open 24 hours, and that is why Chan and Dalhyheon were able to sleep there. I know in Palisades Park, NJ they have a couple (I've never been, but the woman who owns the nail salon that I go to told me that they exist up here -- I am not surprised as there is a sizeable Korean population). Thanks, Soju. The "warm room" conept is more appealing to me than out sweat-it-out heat boxes. Or is that a sauna?

Isn't a sauna dry heat? You know, roasting as opposed to braising

I have been fortunate to have now watched KBS for over 2 years here in Michigan! Baekho is so endearing! Glad to finally be online. I visit Chicago 1-2 times per year!

Nice to hear from you, vhall62!
Cute food analogy, Soju.
Now that i recall, there are volcanic rocks (lava?) in saunas that burn to create heat so I guess saunas are dry. The same thing occurs in Native American sweat lodges only there they sometimes pour water over the stones to make steam.
I guess every culture has some form of foment.

I think the hot rocks are the place to pour water, if you want it to feel hotter. Or sometimes they put green branches with leaves on them, on the rocks. I saw it on tv.

Welcome aboard! lol Yeah, I find Baekho to be the kind of guy I'd love to have as a close friend or even relative. I like when he's all goofy and stuff with his uncle or ujin and so on.

Welcome, vhal62 I visit Ann Arbor at least once a year and never knew you could get KBS in MI. I always go through withdrawal symptoms when I'm there

Baekho is so funny and cute. He could cheer anybody up. I like that he took Danpung ice skating to relieve stress. Can you imagine the Doc doing that? No way. Then Baekho runs all the way home after the encounter on the ice ;D . What a character.
