i'm too lazy to research this But when did they decide to extend Dae Jo Young? i am just wondering, because i am trying to figure out if the writers could have chosen some different paths, and want to see where they could have made those changes. Does that make sense?

It makes perfect sense. Since the show was originally scheduled for 100 episodes, they must have made the decision during the run. And I don't think they even had a final count for certain until the very end, because for a while they had announced a count of 136 and then suddenly it changed to 134.
I think they definitely could have chosen different paths, and much better ones. What they should have done, rather than trying to pad the middle of the series with filler material and end with the declaration of Balhae (which is what I assume is what the end will be), they should have let the 100 episodes go forth unaltered and then write new material about Balhae's early years. Then the original episodes would have been better and tighter, and they could have started new storylines at #101. It's so obvious, you wonder why they didn't do it that way.
But yeah it's a good question and I'd like to know not only WHEN it was decided but WHO decided it, so I can write that person a really, really nasty letter!

It seems the whole drama changes course when the time changes to some 10 maybe more years in the future ,and as such this is when it moves up more than a few notches so this is a wild guess but around ep #89 seems to make sense . It looks possibly that the writers and directors may have changed hands more than once as things really drop off after the fall of Kogoryo i actually started reading the spoilers because i wanted to see how long this Dom Young Chun League stuff was going to go on as it seemed endless ,it did pick up once they all got put in the work camp but there was this 30 episode period where it seemed everybody ran out of idea's and just kept repeating the plots . Not to make a comparison but many Japanese Historical drama's for example 2004's Shinsengumi about a group of poor young Samurai who go to Kyoto to fight for the crumbling Shogunate in 1863 ran into a lot of trouble by Ep 23 (49 +1 90 Min sequel ) the group had not even assumed the name that would make them famous/notorious (they only had a 6 year life span so thats 20 plus episode's of dithering about )so NHK bought in a new director and writers (un-credited )to revamp the series while they still had viewers left ,as such it became a huge hit and pretty much swept the Jp Tv Awards that year as well as being the most popular historical drama on export as well .So my point is did DJY have a similar make over because it really seems that way
