Grazie famcgee.
The dramas always seem to end with some of the female characters pregnant! How... what's the word here... well anyway, seonjae eventually turns to farming. When he was brushing jiyeong off didn't he say something about life with her would be them working a farm or something like that? Blah I forget. Augh, someone should throw dirt at him but not in his face lol.

What will I do with all of the time I spent reading the Chicago Korean Drama Fan Club? This has been the "best"! I am in Philadelphia, they are probably further behind in the drama than anyone. I always like to read the last chapter first when I read a book, so I really love knowing what will come in this drama...if only real life was that easy. The thing that makes that even better are all of the people in this fan club with diverse opinions, interpretations of the plot and characters and people like Sheila who have the abiliity to translate the language and enhance the action of this drama. This has been wonderful and while some folks are disappointed that it ended with most of the conflict settled and the characters happy or having hope--wouldn't be wonderful if in real life we all lived happily ever after.

A terribly cheesy ending which made me puke! Dongji who was going through menopause a few episodes ago is going to be a Mom! Hello, medical science hold on tight to her! And how do the fathers-to-be know about this? Baekho gets a phone call from his wife. Baekho tells his Dad that he is going to be a father and a grand-father at the same time. Yes, I always thought Mansu looks like a dead ringer for Steve Martin. MIL who's always hated Baekho SUDDENLY looks on him favorably and cries with joy that he is her biological grandson. He would have been so much better off being a Kang. Sonjerk told his Dad that his being in prison was his Dad's fault for not helping him. Shows no remorse over what he did except to shed crocodile tears over getting caught is HAPPY playing with tomatoes? Where is the bow to the elders and the asking for forgiveness? The couple who married for ulterior reasons both realize they actually love each other and are going to walk off into la la land together, with the applause of their family? And finally, the one person through to her character from start to finish, the stupidest, most boring character in k-drama world, Ms Hwang Jiyeong! What does she do? She tries to hide her pregnant belly from Sonjerk. Must be feeling guilty for cheating on lying scum of ex-boyfriend with sincere, devoted husband! Talk about corny endings! ----- I'm sorry that the people who created this thread and kept it so real and alive, Ashen and Sheila especially are not here at the end of the show. Ashen, great idea to start this thread. Sheila, thanks for the great write-ups. No-one does a summary like you -- I actually felt I was watching the show when I read your summaries. I forgot to rant about one more point! Baekho is Mansu's biological son. The writers have not addressed why Dongji has kept this news from Mansu throughout their marriage and even now when she is expecting another child with him. They think this is acceptable? I don't as it makes Dongji appear cunning and cruel as MIL! I felt there were too many characters and sub-plots so the writers really lost it. They have not let any character really developed.

Yeah, like there could've been 3 dramas out of this and each with 100 plus episodes as well.

Rendezvous, I agree. I think Dongji kept it from Mansu because of MIL. Had MIL treated Dongji remotely as a family member, Dongji would have told the truth about Baekho. Here's how I saw it from Dongji's perspective.
1. MIL hated her back in the day when Mansu and Dongji were a couple. 2. She was vocally opposed to the marriage. 3. MIL made her sign that promise note, foregoing any and all inheritance. 4. MIL continued day after day, belittling Dongji and Baekho as leeches to her great empire and all around terrible people.
If Dongji wanted to tell her, MIL never gave her an opening to do so. She could tell Mansu without hesitation, but the fallout from MIL was not worth it, especially the way she treated her.
I know I'm extrapolating here, but when MIL asks Dongji to rip up that promise note, Dongji tells her that she resented for a long time. Part of this resentment, I believe, was not telling MIL about Baekho. So in a way, she is cunning.
Did anyone feel that Jiyeong's family served no purpose to the show except to provide drama and friction to Seonjae, Sua and her family? The writers tried to create a subplot with JY's family (Geumja, Miae's acting career, Sonia-Chan-Dalyheon) but they gave up on it and just used them split Sua and Seonjae apart.
I wonder what the sentiment in Korea is?

Famcgee, MIL opposed the marriage (first time round) because of Dongji's background. Her job more specifically. And second time round, the note was to secure the inheritance for Sua. She was afraid that if Mansu died before Dongji, then Dongji and Baekho would cut Sua off without any inheritance. MIL is nasty but I can understand her wanting to protect her grand-daughter. She tore up the note when she saw that her grand-daughter accepted Dongji.
I really cannot understand what made Dongji marry Mansu in the first place. And wanting to not take Baekho into that house. If he never had the accident, he would never have been part of the family. How good a mother is she then compared to MIL?
The writers could have developed the main characters and let us see some real character development. And you know, Jiyeong is a really lousy actress. The last scene, she still looked at Seonjae with such longing. Maybe she only knows one kind of look to give him!
and what's the idea of ending the show with Seonjae grinning like a cheshire cat?! He has not shown any remorse for his past actions. Shows up at the Bongs and grins so happily. Oh yucks, yucks!

I'm very sad that the show has ended there. Now I have no idea what to do when I'm bored at work. famcgee and rendezvous I agree with you. I'm not really upset about the ending though maybe just the way it unfolded. They could have added a few more episodes to really explore all the other situations such as Baekho being Mansu's son( in real life Dongji would have a lot of explaining to do), Dalheon still living with the Hwangs( or maybe they moved out, don't remember) and what's the deal with SJ not being remorseful at the least. I don't think he should have been happy "farming". I think he should have been miserable and regretting eveything until at least Suah came back. And he should have bowed and ask for forgiveness to MAnsu and MIL for almost killing one and mistreating the other's fragile princess. But overall I'm happy that Ujin got what ot who he wanted ;D and that DP got pregnant. I can't help but wish that something kind of happen to MIL but I guess the humiliation of finding out that Baekho was actually her grandson was enough Special thanks to all of you guys that posted the spoilers, wink to you Pilseung and of course a prayer that Sheila is OK.

Kumblis16, in real life though I would worry about Woo Jin. The last episode his wife still gives Seonjae longing looks and tries to hide her pregnant belly. What's up with that?! Dalhyeon and wife moved out of the Hwangs, to a place close by. I think Mia looked more upset than Chan Yeah, I feel sad and bored too. Wondering what to do now! Anyway this is my last post. I am tired of this forum. People are very petty, sensitive and really jump on you if you don't agree with their posts. I read about it in many soompi threads where many ex-posters have gone to. Now I'm going to be one of them! Ciao.

I agree that some of the story lines should have been handled differently. It was soooooooooooo obvious throughout the entire series that Jiyeong was still Seonjae's true love, so why all of a sudden does he finally feel as though he loves Sua? Since he no longer has any corporate ambitions, that doesn't make sense to me Neither does the idea of Jiyeong trying to hide her pregant appearance from Seonjae. Also, if I were Mansu, I don't think I'd be all that willing to forgive and forget everything with Seonjae. I'm curious as to how he got out of jail so quickly, since his crime is technically a felony? I am happy to see Baekho and Danpung have a happy ending, and a child on the way. I'm also happy that both families accept them finally I think the writers were in a hurry to wrap up everything quickly with a sugar-coated ending for all, but it's still a great show, and I'll really miss it when it ends on KBS America in another 28 episodes Hopefully, whatever follows it will also be good.

I'm sorry that's been your experience , but I feel this is an excellent board, and have found most people here to be very nice, forthcoming, and an enjoyment to hear from. Please re-consider, Rendezvous, if you log back in. There are many of us who would never do what you've described, so please don't condemn the entire board based on the actions of a few.

What I hate most is what the writers does to shows that we the viewers has invested so much time, who knows the characters, and follow the plot lines, they extend the show then hurriedly gave us the most unpleasant ending. SJ should of been in jail still, DP mother needed to be taught proper manners and needed her pride destroyed, they should of expanded a little more on Jiyeong & Ujin relationship and how true love developed on her part, Sua needed to suffer more, Granny also needed her share of suffering all in all it was a good show, still leave a bad taste in my mouth.
