I would also request that discussion on this topic, if you really feel it needs to be continued, be put into another thread. And please keep it civil and strive to understand others' points of view.

I agree with that, but my favorite character Mr. Na is VERY strong willed and strong minded (also quite explosive) This is a bit off of the subject, but it sure seems like the doctor beau of Danpung's never has any work to do, and is always ready to meet her in a moment's notice

I noticed it too, MisterBill. He has that glowering look whenever he sees Baekho and Danpung but cleans it up real quick in front of her. I don't trust him. That's the thing about Dongji: I'm finding it hard to like her but I do trust her. She's being a good DIL because that's what one does in one's MIL's house. She's not going for personal gain, doesn't seem to have any hidden motives. But why's she so short-tempered with her own? There was a scene last week (I don't know if you Chiguys saw it yet so I won't spoil) where she hits Baekho on the arm because he expressed concern for her feelings. What kind of reaction is that?

You see him in his office sometimes, but for a surgeon he has a lot of time on his hands. Doesn't he ever operate?

Puppy,
I think the same thing. Why do some of the women hit their family members often? Dongji is always hitting Baekho and Uncle, Miae's sister is always hitting her etc. Strange.

Hi Tink, I know you've been a K-drama fan for a while now so I'm sure you've seen this hitting in other dramas. Many times, it's the grandmothers smacking their grandsons; well, it;s mostly grandsons but the granddaughters are not immune LOL, The smacking would be accompanied by the halmani loudly saying "You Brat", smack smack! It really doesn't seem to be HARD hitting, it looks more like swatting at flies - just enough to give you a bit of a wake-up call that you've done something you shouldn't have done in the Smacker's opinion! Being that it is cultural, MIL could at any moment smack Mansu or even, Sua , that is if MIL ever got real about SUA and recognize what a truly spoiled and selfish person she is. I really don't anticipate that happening though but it sure would be worth seeing. ;D

Yes, Soapy I've seen it in probably all the k-dramas. It's usually the sons and grandsons getting smacked. Since it's a cultural thing, I guess that's why they act like it's normal and age doesn't seem to exclude you from getting smacked. OUCH! If MIL ever slapped Sua, I think all the viewers would be cheering, she desperately needs it. ;D Last night after Sua got a smack down from Miae, she went home and actually answered Dongji's question instead of ignoring her as she usually does.

Dongji should adopt this smacking attitude towards Sua, a few swift slaps and she could bend Sua into submission. Like Deok-chil and her step daughter.

Not that Sua doesn't deserve it, but Sua is an adult so IMO it's different. Mansu wouldn't support her, probably. He should be the one to discipline Sua. (And Grandma would have a fit, because she still hasn't seen the truth of Sua's character.) Please, may Sua's smack-down happen soon!!

Mansu is very nice, proper, and respectful, but he did make a big mistake in letting Fish Lips/Rat Eyes (Sua) grow up to be such a lazy brat (of course, MIL is largely responsible for that too). Sua lives to have everything her own way, and really turns on the anger and pouting when she doesn't get exactly what she wants. Dongji shouldn't put up with so much from her and MIL, but she waits on them hand and foot without so much as a "please" or "thank you".

I think MIL is Very S L O W L Y thawing in her attitude toward Dongji. Remember the fact is that MIL put the kobosh on Mansu and Dongji getting married when they were young and so they married other spouses, who are now deceased. So MIL has to get past the feeling she has harbored against Dongji from way before -- Dongji understands this and that is why she is so "submissive" -- she is hoping to thaw out MIL and is truly determined to be both a good DIL and a good mother to Sua. She loves her son and her brother and for many years took care of them. They are warm and good-hearted men - one of the reasons they are is due to Dongji's love and patience that she had exhibited for years in the past. She very much wants her son to be a responsible man and her brother also. It is NOT usual that in a second marriage, the bride brings all her adult children and adult siblings with her to her husband's home. Well, actually, the house belongs to MIL .. we know that because Mansu told MIL that this time he would marry Dongji whether or not MIL approved; if she did not approve, he would move out of her house to live with Dongji somewhere else. That was in the early episodes of the show. It's hard to tell exactly just how much time has passed except we know that it's at least 100 days since Mansu and Dongji got married ;D .. MIL seems to really care about Chan; he even gave her a kiss on the cheek and she was smiling very broadly ...maybe a spring thaw will come soon...
