Thanks Tink, Soapy, I think. I laugh to think that my age is in discussion when the amazing part is that I am an Italian-American who's culture and tradition is totally the opposite. I have always had an interest in Asian culture from visiting there a few times. I am learning that as different as we are, we are so similar when it comes to Food and Family. Now about Dongji, when it comes to her brothers and son, she is is a very strong carachter. I think in the end when that Promisary note is revealed, it will explain a lot of her behavior.

gworks
Why do you think the promissory note will explain her behavior?
As far as I can remember,MIL made Dongji promise that she will not inherit any of the family money or assets should she outlive Mansu, that Baekho will not go on the family registry(so no inheritance for him either),Baekho, thus ,will not get the Bong surname, and he was not suppose to stay in their house, etc, etc. Therefore, she seemed to be protecting all Bong assets on Sua's behalf. This Promissory note was not to be revealed to Mansu and that was the only way she would consent to Dongji marrying Mansu. So why do you suggest its revelation will explain her behavior to anyone except maybe Mansu,Baekho and her brother?
My hypothesis that Baekho is the DNA-proveable son of Mansu would satisfy me as to why she takes all the dirt from her DIL and MIL coz that would override all evil MIL's stupid conditions. If he's not Mansu's son, then she's just a doormat and I cant bring myself to respect her!Arghhh,I really hope he is coz then evil MIL,fishlips sour Sua,Jerko Seonjae and Chicken walk/dance ultimate pimp Jongsun will all have rotten eggs in their faces!!!!

Lets forgive Miae .. afterall she has killer legs We can forgive Miae after she gets a job and repays the money. arghh. What selfish thing she is! And Jiyeong has no idea that that money was accepted by the aunt, so Sejeong's mother thinks she's off the hook. What is a stomach convulsion, anyway? maybe it's bad stomach cramps.. or a muscle spasm..

Pils I agree with your hypothesis, but, if you remember, the promisary note episode seemed that " queen evileena" was at the end of reading the note and that there was possibly alot of beef in that note that they never revealed. Maybe at the end they will. Other than that, I could be seeing things or assuming too much. I'll post something in the spoiler, just in case.

Soapygrams,
There was no offense intended. I thought it was so funny that gworks introduced himself as an old man from NY and mikey made a similar comment. Most of us are not spring chickens anymore. I was trying to tell him he wasn't old. He is enjoying the drama and that's great.

Tinkerbell wrote: "Welcome gworks, You can't be that old or you wouldn't be interested in watching" What has AGE have to do with enjoying K-dramas??? Actually, older people seem to understand and accept the way the OLDER generations of Koreans maintain such respect and adherence to their traditions and culture. Read some of the comments about how "spineless" Dongji is to her MIL etc etc - she is that way because she is from the "old school" and was obviously raised to adhere to the old traditions. I don't know the ages other board members but I know I am one of the ELDERS for sure - and I enjoy both the historical and modern dramas. Hear, hear! I'm an elder too, and I'm here! Just wait- you won't feel that different after several decades pass - sometimes it's like I'm still 12, or still 20, or....you get the idea. (You mean I'm not 35?? ) PS, I was reading page 2 and forgot there was a page 3, so my comment wasn't really necessary anymore. Anyhow, time to make some chili on this snowy day.

So many elders! So many Italians. What a great fanboard. (You young'ish non-Italians are OK, too.) I've tried to analyze why I like these K-dramas as much as I do and haven't come to any one conclusion. I just look forward to tuning in at the end of every day with a cup of tea or a glass of wine, the fire going in winter or out on the screened porch in summer, and feeling good. No wars, no late bills to pay, no 10 pounds to lose. Just me and Miae or or Dae Joyoug or whoever. And the Chiboard the next morning, of course.

Oh, and about Miae: She's starting to soften
Bit of a spoiler here: and really become sympathetic by Ep 65.
I'm big on backstory and I like to think Miae, who's so much younger than her sister, was the youngest child of older parents who both died soon after she was born. Her sister and other relatives shuffled her back and forth, raising her as best they could but she really doesn't know how to be a mother or give love. She wants to become a successful actress and be rich so she can show everyone, including Chan, she's not the last puppy in the box.
(Puppy, I tried to darken your comment because it's a spoiler, altho a mild one.)

Puppy, when her siblings found out that Miae had lied to them - i.e. she left Dalhyeon and Chan and didn't come to stay with them just for a while, for a short acting assignment as she claimed when she first appeared on the screen, her brother said that he could not understand how she could leave Chan. He said maybe he didn't raise Miae right. So I don't think she was shuffled to and fro. But I guess whoever much he loved her, its not the same as a parents love.
But still, I don't really like her. Sponging on her family. If she dares to speak up her mind, she should put her money where her mouth is. Get off her ass and do some work! Be it housework, small acting assignments, working in a shop as her sister suggested. Something! Just stop sponging on others, dreaming big dreams, sprouting off your mouth and just lying around the house. I hate people who don't pull their own weight.
