The South Gyeongsang Province will launch the 'Yi Sun-shin project' to globalize the legendary Korean admiral and promote the culture and tourism of the south coast.
Provincial officials will launch 19 projects in total to promote to the world Admiral Yi, his turtle ship and the Imjin war with Japan in which he fought. Projects will also aim to celebrate Yi's combat spirit and explore the turtle ship.
Seven replicas of the turtle ship and the 'panok' vessel that fought courageously in the Imjin war will be built in the Geoje and Tongyeong cities. A peace park commemorating the Noryang maritime battle will be built in Namhae county.
A Yi Sun-shin plaza in Tongyeong measuring some 8,960‡u will house a simulation theater, observatory, tower and fountain. Musical productions depicting the Imjin war will portray major battles and figures during the seven year war.
Other events include a turtle ship building competition, a yacht contest, leadership training program, symposium, best UCC (user created content) contest, the setup of a Yi research institute and a center for studying cultural asset replicas.
From Dae Jang-geum: Sun-dol: "Are you trying to dry me up and kill me? Why do you say the same things over and over every day? Rather, come and hit me once! Aigu!" But then: Dr. Lazarus: "By Grabthar's hammer, by the suns of Warvan... You shall be avenged."
