Was there ever any mention of what was in the promissory note that the mother had to sign before she could marry her long time love?

here are some, but not all details. She couldn't bring anything with her. She would not appear on the family register. In the event of her husband's death, she would not inherit anything. I think there were a couple other things but I'm not clear and don't want to guess. If she outlived her husband I'm not sure she could stay in the house. Really mean stuff. I really like the character and the actress very much. Fish-lip daughter is a pain.

Thanks Kathleen, they looked so happy on their honeymoon. I hope it lasts, but the daughter is going to be a real pain. I wish she would go back to France where she belongs.

I'm sorry about how mean and unaccepting the grandmother is to Dong-ji, and she puts too much emphasis on wealth/lack of wealth and background. Dong-ji seems to be really nice, hard working, and respectful of most everyone (of course, Baek-ho gives her plenty of reason to get angry with him, since he's so lazy and such a mooch).

What is the legality of this promissory note ? Woul this note stand up in court. If not, then what is the point of this note ?

Is this a promissory note, or actually a prenup? Sounds like a prenup. A promissory note involves money to be repaid.

Is the mean MIL expecting to live longer than her son? He certainly wouldn't enforce it. MIL had better start exercising if she wants to keep her power for a long time.

But it looks like MIL has really no intention of enforcing it. One clause is that Baekho should not live with them. MIL has not tried to get rid of him other than hoping he would get married soon (and move out to an apartment). She is very good to Chan. She seems to take 1 step forward, 2 steps backwards every other day!

MIL likes children, which is a nice facet of her personality, and that's also why she's so loving toward Sua. Unfortunately, it's not good for Sua to be so indulged.

I also thought of it as a prenup and wondered why grandma bothered since she probably wouldn't outlive her son and, like ginnycat says, he'd never enforce it. I think it was a test of some kind, to see how much Dongji is willing to do for love. I notice K-drama MILs, even the nice ones, boss around their DILs. Grandma is softening a little. I hope she eventually sees thru Seonjae's mom. Maybe, if Seonjae and Sua ever get together, he'll treat her badly and Grandma will take it out on his Mom. I'd like to see that because Seonjae's mother annoys the heck out of me.

Maybe she plans to hand it over to the brat to enforce it. After all, she muttered to herself that she was doing this to protect the brat.

What's going on with the money? MIL says, Here's the money for the household account. Don't buy cheap food; if you need more money, ask me, don't ask Mansu. Then she says, this is all you're going to get. What is that, a challenge: If you want to grab some for yourself, you'll have to be creative because I'll be looking over your household accounts. ?? And why is Dongji such a wimp? Sua wants a drink and expects Dongji to fetch it. It's time for a talk: Is your leg broken? Who do you think I am? I'll tell you, I'm your father's wife and your mother. I will not wait on you. I'm busy making dinner; come into the kitchen and help me.

Yes. But then Sua will tell grandma and grandma will tell her son and he'll defend his wife and Grandma will holler at him and Dongji will have to hang her head and say I'm sooooreee to everybody! It goes round and round but this drama is growing on me
