I have a question about the Academy which Eunha and Muyeong (sp?) attend. Is it like the equivalent of a community college ? And I missed some episodes but why does Eunha go to there? Did she drop out of secondary school because of the bullying, or is she actually in her first year ?
Also, which prefecture/town/city or part of city do they live in Korea? Does anyone know ?
thank you

I think a good term for it would be a "Private tutoring academy". Attending a prestigious school is very important in Korea, since that is often the main basis for a company to hire someone. Just recently, there was a scandal where several well known people were revealed to have falsified their academic credentials to get where they were. Since attending good school is so highly valued, young people will attend these academies in addition to their regular school, or continuing after graduation if they don't pass the college entrance exam, which I think is the case for Eun-ha. The characters all live in Seoul. Almost all drama characters either live in Seoul or a nearby small town. Either that, or they live "in the country" like in 'The Jujube Tree'. Just once, I'd like to see a show that all takes place in Busan or Daegu or some other big city that isn't Seoul.

The schools are called "hagwons". Pretty much all korean children and young adults go to one sort or another ranging from academics to sports. More and more Americans are going to Korea to teach english and take a break after university studies. To teach, you have to have a bachelors degree from an accredited university and you're set.
There are different rules and contract offers regarding the work situation, but on average you'll make at least $24,000 plus bonuses and private tutorings. In Busan, I made about $32,000 but I heard in Seoul you can make alot more. If you have an ivy league education, you'll bank. It gets addictive though. Easy money and I know quite a few people who are still teaching after 5 years.
