The first episode was interesting enough, even though there was a lot of confusion, as is bound to happen. Lots of names were thrown at us, but the one I managed to pick up was Muyeon(g) AKA Ha-nam from Infamous Chill Sisters. He seems to be the main character of the show, but was barely in the first episode. Apparently, he's from a poor family who has "adopted" him? Or at least, that was hinted at in this episode. Lots of familiar older generation actors and actresses are in this new show, but the younger ones seem new to me. It was interesting how the very first episode started out with a wedding! A lot to take in. The husband and wife already have started to have some differences, same rich vs. poor storyline, but with a twist, I'm assuming. Looking forward to the next episode.

It was hard to figure out the relationships. The mother of the groom and the grandmother didn't seem so different in age. The grandmother has a daughter who's not so old. Or is she an aunt not a grandmother? She's played by the mother in No More Tears Farewell to Tears whose husband chopped off their daughter's hair when she was a teen. But the man who played the rich doctor/brother in FTT called her omoni. One girl sort of likes Hanam-guy, but her (boy)friend just came back from overseas-is he Eunho from Hwang Jini? He's cute, but his scarf was draped funny. Snark, snark. The rich father and mother of the bride are not getting along at all. I wonder how long the bride and groom knew each other? I thought they would divorce by the second day. So they're going to live with her family? She's kind of bratty and will probably not want to even visit on holidays. (Not like Yunjeong. I miss them all. )

was it just me ... the audio on HighSky and DJY wasn't clear or sharp... sounded kind of scratchy ... It couldn't have been my TV set because network news was clear. Nice seeing Dr. Moon from Seoul 1945 playing such a different role.

To be honest, I got so burned out on “Pure in Heart” that I took a time-out from the first 10 episodes of “High as the Sky” to recover (and, judging from the minimal discussion about PIH from the Chicago crowd, I may not have been the only one suffering from PIH burnout).
But now, I’ve finally started watching High as the Sky” and, truth be told, I’m not that impressed so far. I never developed any particular affection for the “Hanam-guy” ;D on “Chill Sisters,” so his presence here hasn’t done anything to boost my enthusiasm.
HOWEVER, there are two people in this drama that I really do like: Hong Yo-sup (who played Marxist intellectual Moon Dong-gi in “Seoul 1945”) appears here a college professor. What a great voice that guy has! And actress Yoon Hae-young (whom we all remember as “Yu-jin” in “One Million Roses,” and “Hoon-sook” in “So This is Love”) shows up here, too, as one of his former students. I loved YHY in her past roles, and she’s been doing a great job here, too. These two are the highlights of the show so far.
Also, the mysterious old lady who’s hanging around the neighborhood will reveal herself very soon. This has the potential of becoming a halfway decent plotline as well.

For a drama that is probably going to run for months and months, there was a fair amount of action in the first episode. It was nice to see some familiar faces (especially YuJin from OMR) and it looks like it's going to have a good mix of modern and traditional values. The actor that plays the newlywed husband was in an un-subtitled drama that I watched ages ago, before I discovered this message board. Ginnycat, go to the link that SoJu posted for the SoCal board; there's a great breakdown of the characters and who they're related to, complete with pictures. It really helped me get a handle on who is who. Already I dislike the new bride, but I felt that way about YunJeong in Pure too at first and she turned out to be fine after a while. I think this is going to be a pretty good drama, with enough characters to keep things interesting.

I hope they get the audio problem squared away; it continued with last night's 'Dae Jo-young, too.
I tried to watch this show on VOD (without subtitles), but was totally lost. It works when watching a comedy like BBunch or Pure 19, but when I found what the characters were saying last night, I was like, "Oh! Now I get it!" The family's attitude to Mu-yeong just went right by me, since it's not really overt, rather kinda snide.

Sound quality was pretty poor this episode. I didn't really watch DJY to see if that was just a problem with the tape for this show only or not. But, hopefully, they've done something about it by now. I tried to watch this show on VOD (without subtitles), but was totally lost. The mother called him something before going away to her room. I wonder if he's escaped from his family just because he found out that he's adopted or not.

I'm not too big a fan of Park Hae Jin (Ha-nam) either because his acting needs a little bit of work, but I'm getting used to him. I should hope that he's playing a little bit of a different character than his role in ICS otherwise it'll be like he's choosing roles that he's only familiar with playing. Where's the fun in that? I really loved Yoon HaeYoung from So this is Love and One Million Roses. She seems to be paired up with that single dad she waved to at the wedding. I wonder how old she is on the show/in real life because the dad seems to be quite old for her. Either way, it's good to see her and Kim Ja Ok, who was also in So this is Love. The mysterious lady scares me. I think it's just the actress's past roles that really bother me because she's played a mean grandmother/mother in every show that I've seen her in. Hopefully she'll play a much more mellow, but involved character in this one. No more screaming, please. I've had enough of the Okgeum and Hyesuk banter from PIH to last me a lifetime.

Myoeng-ju (the character) is 38, but Yun Hae-yeong (the actress) is only 34. Myeong-ju has had a crush on 50 year old Jong-hoon (Ji-su's father) since she was a student of his years ago.

I’d also heard that Yoon Hae-young had some marital problems shortly after "One Million Roses," and she took a break from acting and was actually living in Los Angeles for a while. So, I’m also delighted to see her once again back at work.
Mystery Lady is nothing at all like she was in her past roles. Haven't heard a scream from her yet. I'm a bit surprised to see that she's developing into such an interesting character on this show.

Yoon Hae-Young is/was married? This is certainly news to me. But her character seems to be interested in that professor who's much older to her. OUCH.

Looking closely, I think that the bride's father also played Sang-hyuk's father in Winter Sonata ... also some minister in IYSS. Love seeing the recyled actors ... especially when they're playng such different roles. Lots of them in this drama.

The bride's father is also in A Woman's Choice. I really love this actor, but seeing him so cold in this drama scares me. He's usually plays the quiet guy, but sleeping in separate bedrooms in this one?
But, it's finally been confirmed that Muyeong is adopted. I wonder if there's some family secrets about his birth or something. But, it's really much like the Ha-nam situation in ICS, isn't it? But the new cast makes the show a bit more fun to watch.
