I thought that this was very informative. A hanbok for $25,000? Wow! And how hard the actors/actresses work. One meal a day. The spoiled so-called "talent"in Hollywood could take a lesson from this. What an inspired group of actors! The lady who played Maehyang stated that she felt the we overseas viewers watched mainly for the beautiful costumes and hair-styles. I felt that she was wrong. I believe that many of us watched week after week because the story of Jini is inspiring and universal. The acting was outstanding--I don't believe that there was one week actor in the bunch. It was because of the superb performances (dance as well as acting!) Plus the beautiful costumes, hair, locations, etc. that made this such a wonderful drama. Romance is universal and its language is the language of mankind! I hope we see a dvd soon!

Inspired actors? You shouldn't be so naive. It's more like overworked, underfed and vastly underpaid. Do you have any idea how many actors faint during filming and end up in the hospital due to exhaustion? Do you really believe they work so hard because they want to? They have no other choice. If they tell you to go jump off a bridge, you're going to do it and smile while you're at it too. That's how the Korean entertainment industry works.

Although SIU put it rather harshly (and I'm not trying to start a fight, just pointing out that the language of name-calling is unnecessary), I concur with his/her information--that's what I've heard, too. They didn't seem to be too happy to wait all day to eat two cookies or a styrofoam cup of kimchi at 5:00 p.m. I know I wouldn't. That's not the way to take care of your actors, especially if you're going to take so much care with wigs and clothing. I felt bad for them. The actor who played the minister couldn't pick up Jini because he was too weak from not having eaten in 2 days.

I thought that this was very informative. A hanbok for $25,000? Wow! I watched the rerun of the special today and heard the price was around four thousand USD for a hanbok. But still! That's a whole lot of money. But since they did mention that the hanboks displayed on this show were the best in the history of dramas, I could only imagine they'd spend a large amount of money on them! I loved how the designer talked about the color schemes for the actors. Booyoung got these pastel colors and they were more sexy looking than the bold colors of Jini's hanboks. It made sense after she explained them. I truly enjoyed that special. The actors worked so very hard to bring us this truly enjoyable, though depressing drama. Not being able to eat your meals on time! Jeez filming was pretty intense. My favorite part was the compilation of catch phrases. LOL. Jini, you stupid wench.

She said that it was a reason, which it was. The acting was superb, the plot lines left us waiting for the next episode, but the hanboks and such did add to the show. Hwang Jini was supposed to be a glamorous Kisaeng of her time. I mean if the designer was going to spend all of her time making these gorgeous hanboks, one would expect people to tune in to take a look at them.

I enjoyed the special too. The actress who played Booyoung was so much prettier and more fun than the her character on Hwang Jini. Did anyone else laugh when Jini said that of the four men she preferred Mr BYUCK the best? Do you think Baekmu will have her own special? I really liked her.
Oh, and while we're in awe over the cost of the hanboks, didn't they say that Jini's wig cost $10,000?

The dress that cost $25,000 was specialy made with jewels sewn in for the promo appearances and posters if I remember right. I think they had almost a dozen hanboks just for Jini. Ha Ji Won's favorite scene was the same as mine, so she can't be all bad. As mentioned, the cast and crew were really pushed to the limits of endurance to make this series. As much as I appreciated the aesthetics already, I admire everyone's efforts even more now. The cold water and those flimsy costumes had to be the worst of it. And those catch phrases were all off to me, I didn't remember any of them put that way. I remember "Myeongwol you wench!" and Junghan saying "Look here…", but none of the others described. Maybe they were subtitled differently here. I liked the whole show, I wish Seoul 1945 would have a 2 hour special. Bae, "Dalja's Spring" is the new show. It starts tonight.

I come from a family of actors/actresses. My sister is a Shakespearean actress who has lived and worked in Great Britain for the last 30 years. I agree with everything you have stated about acting---in general it is a miserably paid, exhausting profession with many hazards. Believe me, it is not only the Korean entertainment industry, although I have to say that the forced long hours and starvation are pretty over the top. What I was trying to say is that in spite of those miserable conditions, the product they created---the characters, the production was inspired. If they weren't excellent, the whip-crackers would have replaced them in a New York minute. An actor cannot be compelled to be good;either he is good or he is not.

Oh yeah, all the other hanboks were less costly, but that one did look expensive. Also one of my favorites. I liked Booyoung's outfits better for some reason. Thanks Zorro. I missed it by the time I saw this post, but I was keen to tune into the rerun the following afternoon.
