I suspect that disguised under Gaepil's buffonery is a ruthless streak. He must have something like that in order to have lead the lost Turk soldiers.
I agree on XR and the Empress; there is something about the way they treat each other. Maybe they had an affair way back when and remained on amicable terms. Great subtle acting.
Geom definitely has center stage. I'm wondering what are LK's true motives in raising Geom. I wouldn't be surprised if he uses Geom against DJY. I bet that LK and SH aren't sharing all of their plans with Chulin either. And... will DJY finally put the pieces together, do the math, and figure out that Geom is his son?!?!?
Mimosa is great!! He did seem a bit taken back when SH asked Mim to serve with him, but quickly recovered his bearings.
Good scene with Geumlan and Gulsabiwu. (perhaps that's why Biwu has been a bit sour on Mimosa lately)

Ep 89 So the battle begins. Loved seeing Li Wen outsmarted again. Was surprised to suddenly see Mimosa with Dae Jo Young. Also surprised to see Li Kaigu, Chulin and Shin Hong in the thick of a battle. How'd that happen? So, LK seeks revenge on Dae Jungsang for killing LK's father? Having missed early episodes, I don't know whether that's true or not. I don't think DJS would have killed without reason though. Surprise!, LK suddenly turns concilliatory towards DJY. More surprises: Geom kills Xue Rengui's messenger!

EPISODE #89 Li Kaigu's father was coerced, manipulated, tricked (whatever you want to call it ) by a servant (Shin Hong) to open the gate of Ansi Fort for the Tang soldiers disguised as reinforcements from another fort. He was told his family was captured and would be killed if he didn't help. Dae Jungsang overhears this and there was a confrontation between them. LK's father (Bu Jigwang ?) and DJS drew their swords and LK's father LET himself be killed by Dae Jungsang. Of course this deeply hurt DJS because they were friends. Shin Hong escapes with a woman (the wife I think) and a child (LI Kaigu). It isn't until LK is grown up and Shin Hong tells him who he is and what happened to his father and who killed him. He didn't tell him the whole story so Kaigu would seek revenge. So from the very beginning Shin Hong has been trouble. I loved seeing Li Wen and Shin Hong outwitted again. Mimosa acted so surprised when he was being grilled by SH about where DJY and his men were. Somehow I knew Mimosa was putting on an act. Li Kaigu was willing to join forces with DJY and his men because he knows they need them right now. Notice Shin Hong was very displeased about this and reminded LK about his father. He is like Satan tempting him all the time to keep hating and to seek revenge. You'd think it was his father that got killed. I was surprised at first when Geom killed the messenger but then I knew he was very upset thinking DJY would take Xue Rengui's offer and stop helping the Khitans. After all XR had a better offer, not only releasing the refugees from Yingzhou, but all the displaced people in Tang as well. You know the Empress would never do that, it's a ploy. What's with Gaepil and his wanting to compete with Geumlan? Is it competition or is he interested in her? Hmm.

EPISODE#89 It's really just been the last 2 episodes or so that Biwu has shown that kind of concern or interest in Geumlan. (Violins playing)

EPISODE# 89
So DJY has a son named DAN??? Where did they come up with that name? Dae Dan !?!?!? That's so random. Also, to me, Dan looks more like he could be Chulin's son and Geom looks more like he could be Sukyoung's son. The actor who plays Dan was in Seoul 1945 and did a great job.
I'm really liking Geom though. I've seen the actor in other dramas and also liked him in them(ex. Age of Warriors).

Wow! Didn't know Shin Hong was that bad. He caused events leading to LK's father's death, and ends up manipulating LK!?! How cold hearted! Also, don't forget that DJY's forces killed SH's brother in the Andong Protectorate (seems so long ago). I'm sure SH is still seeking revenge for that as well. He probably has a long, long list of people he'd like to wipe out. I don't see Gaepil being interested in a relationship with Geumlan; he's strutting his ego, but wouldn't rule out a rumble in the hay. All during the drinking scene I kept thinking about how awful they would feel in the morning. I'm sure the Empress wouldn't allow the Tang refugees to go either. Xue better come up with something better than that. I wonder what will happen to him....

EPISODE# 90 Geom might have done that a little bit, but he could never out sneer Li Kaigu. I guess some of it rubbed off on Geom after seeing LK do it his whole life. Talking about that, Li Kaigu had a major sneer on his face when he was captured. I found it a little hard to swallow when Xue Rengui came up with "his plan". No offense, but XR always got his ideas or plans from everyone else, including Hongpei. He never seemed to be the sharpest knife in the drawer.Even in the beginning, Xue was going crazy trying to think of something to do. Also, I'm no expert on horses, but wouldn't they try to bite the branches off their tails? Would they even allow the men to tie them on in the first place without kicking them?

Yes!! I noticed a teenie snear too. This time Dae Jo Young looked angry with Geom. And yes on Xue Rengui. While he was at Andong Protectorate, everyone around him came up with ideas. Perhaps his reputation is more from his actions on the battlefield itself. I was puzzled by the horse & dust thing too. I thought the scouts would have gotten close enough to see LW’s army moving out, not just guess by dust in the air. I was thinking about the scene, a few eps back, with Guemlan and Biwu - the face-painting and sword sharpening scene. Her comment about trying to forget that she is a woman, really struck me. It must have been difficult for her as a woman warrior surrounded by male warriors. Not that she couldn't handle herself well in battle, but she had to get herself into a different mind-set.... interesting; no room for emotional feelings about fellow warriors, which, in a way, is sad.

EPISODE# 90
I wondered about Geumlan making that comment too jojo. I don't know if there is something behind that statement, for instance something from her past or is it nothing. I often thought something tragic or horrible might have happened to her because of the expression on her face. There IS something and I hope we find out in a future episode.

I don't know if we'll ever find out about Geumlam's past or how she came to be with Mimosa. However, I do recall that early on when we first met Mimosa and his grandfather in the refugee Baekje village, it showed Tang soldiers taking girl children away from their families. They said Tang was getting rid of the girls so the Baekje people would die out. Maybe Geumlam was one of those girls.

I agree mugwump. I also wondered if the Tang soldiers had violated her, if it was the atrocities she witnessed, were her loved ones killed, or was she forced to "entertain" the men. When Princess Sukyoung was taken to Tang she was reduced to a servant / slave. I'm sure Geumlan had it worse. We can only speculate, but I hope the writers enlighten us to at least give us some insight into her character.

Thanks for your comments tinkerbell & mugwump. They all sound like possibilities for Geumlan. I do hope the writers reveal a little bit more about her past, so we can see how it influences her present actions.
