It was predictable that DJY would get sliced and diced but ultimately he would win over Kaigu. What LK said before he died was out of character for him. Why couldn't he have felt that way earlier? He could have ruled the Khitan people and they could've been allies with the Goguryeans against Tang. Thanks to Shin Hong whispering in his ear constantly and keeping LK fired up with hatred and grand ambitions. If only he hadn't been so vengeful and greedy. The same goes for Wu Zetian, not satisfied unless they rule the entire land. Muchuo isn't much better. It will be interesting what Li Wen offers the Turks for an alliance. I hope Geom does better this time fighting against LW. Well his "father" showing up and distracting him won't be a problem this time around. I feel sorry for Geom too, both parents that raised him are dead and the turmoil over the Heir Apparent. I can't blame Sukyoung for the way she feels, any mother would feel the same. I think Geom will leave just to avoid the conflict. That was a very lavish and colorful ceremony. Sukyoung looked very beautiful! Didn't DJY's earrings remind you of King Bojang? ;D hehe I think if Geom would've arrived sooner, he would have had to rip the poison out of Chulin's hands. She would've only done it later. Very strange that she loved Li Kaigu all along and not DJY. So, what's to become of Xue Rengui, Hongpei and Li Wen? I liked the way Hongpei stood up to LW.

I like to think that LK had 1 molecule of goodness in him. Every now and then it would shine through, like after his attempt to murder the Khan, and their subsequent talk, LK seemed to have an understanding of Khan's treatment of DJY. And LK obviously cared deeply for Chulin and Geom. But, yes, the final words from LK's mouth seemed incongruous. I would have liked him to have a 'lightbulb' moment, where he remembers all the bad decisions he made in his life and suddenly realizes, as you said Tinks, that he could have ruled the Khitans and been an ally with DJY and the Gorguryeoans. I agree about Sukyoung, not only for her & DJY's sons, but also because of potential conflict with Geom being half Khitan. It's the same old mistrust again, just coming from the other side of the fence. Good for Hongpei. Remember when HP ended up in prison at the Andong Protectorate, and refused to come out the first time XR forgave him? And XR let him stew for a while until HP was begging to be released? ;D Only two episodes left! Then what?

One more thought on LK, in the unfinished business category: he never learned about SH's involvement with the death of LK's father.

XR doesn't seem to appreciate Hongpei as much as he should. I know he cares about him, like when he thought Hongpei had pestilence. Everybody picks on him.
It would have been nice if Kaigu found out about Shin Hong's treachery and killed him. Actually someone should have done him in after he killed the Khan. I can't believe he got away with that too.
After DJY it should be The Great King Sejong.

Hope you've all been well!
I watched the final episode yesterday, preceded by the previous 4 or 5 epi's.
A few questions and observations:
1. Can someone tell me if Mimosa's character is historical or fictional? My hunch is that he was written in (fictional) due to the fact that Dae Joyoung did not assign him to any official post.
2. The final twist in the Geom storyline leads me to believe that this was added material as well. For that matter, does anyone know how closely this storyline sticks to the historical record?
3. Did anyone else feel that the past few weeks were sad, enjoyable and predictable all at the same time?
4. In my opinion there were political agendas at work in the writing of this screenplay. Throughout the series and most strongly at the conclusion the subject matter seemed to deal with current political issues surrounding statements made by Chinese scholars within the past 2-3 years. I seem to remember discussing (in this forum) an issue brought about by statements asserting a common heritage between Goguryeo and China rather than that between Goguryeo and Korea. At the time I remember hearing a perspective that holds China and South Korea jockeying for position in prelude to the passing of North Korea's Kim Jong Il (which has not yet happened), presumably with an eye toward preservation of Communism (in the case of China) and preservation of Korea (in the case of South Korea).
5. Does anyone know which K-Drama we will seeing next on WYBE?

Final Episode Excellent idea of DJY to recapture old Gorguryeo territory while the Turks and Tang are at each other. Lovely to see the Emporer capitulate. Her majesty's comment "I can't allow my people to suffer in the treachery of war"... yeah right! She's only saying that because they can't win this time, otherwise the people can suffer away. And speaking of capitulation: Li Wen gets to suffer a fate worse than death, begging forgiveness from DJY. Who would have thought this would ever happen! That was a great scene seeing the Tang ministers beg for forgiveness (though they seem to be well practiced at it), but DJY wouldn't budge until LW did the same. Liked the scene with DJY and Dan. Good fatherly advice. At one point Dan talked about "Brother Geom." Looks like he knew about Geom too. Awesome scene with DJY and Geom!! Good to think they will see each other some time in the future. DJY is finally over!! Agh! I will miss it. Seven Stars: re item #3 - yes the story did get a little predictable (ie: leading characters suddenly being killed off for the end of the story), but yeah, I still enjoyed it. Liked seeing the final establishment of Bahlae, and DJY and Geom finally acknowledging each other as father & son. Can't help on the historical stuff; most of what I've learned has come from wikipedia (whose reliability is uncertain) and these boards. tinkerbell mentioned the Great King Sejong should be up next. That would be great, but I don't want to get my hopes up with wybe.

jojo and tinkerbell--Just wanted to tell you two that I've enjoyed reading your comments every week on this thread. I wish that the Philadelphia and Chicago schedules were more in sync so that we could all talk about the same material at the same time. But it's been interesting to read your reactions to the stuff that I saw a while back.
If you get GKS next, be ready to pay close attention. It's full of details and MUCH more complicated than DJY. But it's worth it. We're up to #31 here in Chicago and I'm very impressed with the series. Top-notch quality stuff.

Well Jojo,
Thanks for the reply and for comiserating with me at the end of one of the best K-Drama's I've been privileged to watch (3rd or 4th on my limited list for the record).
I'm going to lay off of WYBE this time. I've criticized WYBE before but the fact is I wouldn't ever have seen one K-Drama without it.

ajk: Thank you so much! This was the first Korean historical drama I've seen. I am sooo impressed. And from a historical standpoint, what an amazing achievment that DJY was able to get his countrymen together after such a long period of time. Truely remarkable. 7S: You're quite right. Without wybe we would never have seen these dramas, so I am grateful for that! I just have a feeling that they may push Korean historical dramas out, to be replaced with the new programming. I hope I'm wrong. jj

Jojo so far you've been wrong and several of us have been watching for years now.
Having said that, if you turn out to be correct there will be a host of "boo-birds" in concert with you.

WELCOME BACK SEVEN STARSYou've been gone awhile. Did you walk back from China? I agree, Hongpei was very loyal and at least before Xue Rengui died, he complimented Honpei for always being at his side.
