There was a scene which (guess what) we didn't see, where Ki-woong get the ring out of the drawer and remembers the story behind it. His sister comes in to borrow somthing; he keeps th ring clenched in his fist, but the mood is broken. It's then that he goes and puts the ring in the charity box.

Here is an interesing understanding of Korean culture that I recently read which I think is helpful to the background of Kiwoong and Haein. Please assist me anyone, if I've misunderstood this or can shed more light. It is the custom for juniors in high school to be paired with a senior. The junior is to be respectful in every way to his/her senior, and the senior, in turn, is to be as helpful a mentor as possible to his/her junior. The relationship is very important and strong, and it is not uncommon for it to continue even after graduating. For instance, it would be not unheard of, and perhaps anticipated, that someone's senior helps his/her junior in getting a job and settling in. It seems implied to me that this is the origin of Kiwoong's and Haein's relationship. Having read about this cultural phenomenon, the predeliction for relationships becoming more complicated is probably not uncommon... plus, it seems the PERFECT set up for a, well... drama! Yay!!! (Does this help anyone?)

I don't know if juniors are paired up wiith a specific Sun-bae, but this is a relationship that comes up all the time in K-dramas.
Regardless of any romantic possibilities, I sure wish I had a Sunbae to lean on when I was closing on my home.

LOL, I could use a Sun-bae like KW any time of the day, period! Thanks, Teresa. That did help. Just one thing, can you elaborate what you meant by 'paired up'? I'm not really getting that.

I don't think she's really choosing wealth over love. She really didn't have feelings for Ki-woong, and Sukhyun is very suitable for her in many ways. They're both rather stiff and well-behaved, accomplished and steady young people. It stands to reason that they got together and are now engaged. But luckily, all these little things keep happening that put Jongman and SH together, and HI is having little moments of jealousy regarding KW, though she doesn't realize it as such yet. I'm sure all these little wedges that keep getting driven between her and SH will result in their both realizing that they shouldn't get married, though how long it will take, I have no idea.

I like the pic of her at the beach. It's refreshingly unflattering! She looks kind of washed out, but in such a way that you still know she's pretty. A true candid photo.

Y'know, maybe that's why she doesn't look so good in the beach picture. I could see how she might have had a nose job. And maybe something with her chin. She's too young for a facelift, but there could have been some facial restructuring.

I like her better with her hair down and straight. It makes her look very innocent.

I really like the coat she wore when she was with SH on Christmas Day. The collar was beautiful, knitted, I think, maybe 2 layers? The color gradations were gorgeous, with that underlayer of red at the edge.
She is trying to have a relationship with him, but he's pretty distant. At the same time, it doesn't look like she's that emotionally attached to him, except for being used to him and knowing when he's not showing her the proper attention or respect. Kind of a sense of possession and entitlement?

I was thrown by that coat at first, ginny, but it quickly grew on me. She looked like a pretty doll with that collar. Haein is just pallid, and she shows pallid emotions. I can't wait until she gets a fire lit under her regarding Kiwoong, though I still don't know why he is so hung up on her. KW is such a cute, fun, masculine guy, and, as SH has come to realize, Haein isn't much fun, though parents like her. I expect that once the various couples break up and begin to reform (I'm picturing cell division here, with the mixing of nuclear matter), she's going to find some passion.

I think Haein is one of those people that doesn't show her emotions on her face at all. If you look at her eyes you can see her sadness and confusion over how SH is acting about their marriage. I feel sorry for her.
