I thought it'd be helpful to get a list of characters on the show and the actors who play them (that have been mentioned so far) so that we can refer back to them in later threads and discussions. ;D
Suh Mal-ja (Grandmother): Kim Young Wook (Diary of Three Spinsters) Jang Jae-do (Grandmother's Son-in-Law): Kang In Duk (Emer Wang Gun) Kang Min-sook (Grandmother's daughter): Kim Hye Sook (To Be With You) Jang Ki-woong (Unemployed Grandson): Jung Joon (Letters to the Parents) Jang Da-jung (Sister of Unemployed Grandson): Sun Ji Hyun Jang Jae-man (Home Shopping President): Lee Young Ha (I'm Sorry, I love you) Jung Nara (President's Wife): Park Jung Soo (Who's my Love) Jang Suk-hyun (Rich Son): Go Joo Won (Rebirth) Kim Jong-nam (Broke Girl): Kim Ah Joong (Emperor of the Sea) Lee Byung-doo (Mean Husband): Ahn Suk Hwan Choi Yoo-jung (Mean Husband's wife): Kim Hye Ok (Diary of Three Spinsters) Lee Hae-in (Daughter that works at Home Shopping): Kim Sung Eun

Yes, BAE, you really do need a character list to make it through the first week without reeling. Thanks! Also, for a less complete list (but one containing photos) don’t miss the first page of the California discussion board. I found it well worth printing out: com1.runboard.com/bcjkdramasincalifornia.fdiscussion.t134

Thanks, Bae!
Who was the girl in the cab who hid her face (from the mean husband?), then told the driver to take her somewhere else?
Did the homeshopping president say he sent 500 roses to his girlfriend?? Whew!

But I don't know why she would hide her face from her dad.

You will find out who she is tonight. Well, thanks to WOCH's editing, we didn't. She is the obligatory Aunt. Her SIL tries to sneak her in, but Mr. Meticulous catches them in the act. Apparently, she'll be there for a while.

Jae-ok is very depressed about her situation. In a scene that was cut out of tonight's showing, Ji-woong's mother goes to visit her SIL. The refrigerator is empty, and whatever's in the rice cooker is rotten. Ji-woong's mom forces her to get up and eat some real food.

OMG soju, thanks for your fill-ins. I really can't stand all this freakish amount of editing that just ruins the entire show!

If it's any small comfort, I understand one station in Los Angeles is worse in that regard.

The refrigerator is empty, and whatever's in the rice cooker is rotten. Ji-woong's mom forces her to get up and eat some real food. I'm not clear on who Jae-ok is, even with the info in other messages above. Can someone give me something to "hang" her character on--like a scene we have seen her in? Is she the one in the cafe to whom that girl (was it the girl who lives in the storeroom) gave that scarf or whatever from her dead son that was supposed to make everything OK again? (what a weird sentence that was.) She's not the same character as the one who looks ill, is she? I'm rather confused still. There are two troubled/depressed/or ill older ladies, right?

Jae-ok is the aunt of Ki-woong and Suk-hyun. She is the woman whith the cafe. Her son recently died young (she was already a widow). Her son was also apparently Jong-nam's boyfriend. About the scarf: in another scene we didn't see here, Jong-nam pauses her scooter in front of a store, where the scarf is part of a window display. Shew flashes back to herself and he boyfriend walking past the store, and he sees the scarf and gets quite enthusiastic. At first I thought he was going to buy it for Jong-nam, but now I think he was saying something like "Boy, my Mom would really like that." Sure wish the VOD's had subtitles. But then, if WOCH didn't edit the show, I wouldn't need to watch the VOD's.

If it's any small comfort, I understand one station in Los Angeles is worse in that regard [namely, editing]. That would be our local KBS affiliate. It's to the point that I'll rarely watch Korean dramas from that channel (last one was Kim Sam Soon).
