What do you all think--did Sangsik overreact when he found out that Hana lied to him and instead of coming come went out w/Chohee and Hosup?

I don't remember the exact scene, but she IS awfully bossy about what he is doing and making sure he tells her every little thing, and doesn't lie to her. Sauce for the gander is sauce for the goose, as they say (paraphrased, lol)...

IF this was a real couple, then I would say he overreacted. But it seems to fit the character well. HE was upset on two diffrent levels, the first of course is primal,he is sick with jealousy,he does not like hosup because he proposed to hana, and they have a close relationship.secondly, sangsik is a morally straight person with old fashioned ways.when hana lied,IT shook him to his bones, don't forget that we have been bombarded with the belief in this family that words turn into actions,he is afraid that if she lies so easily that she will always lie.

Agreed, toranaga. They're VERY concerned about words and promises and evidence of future behavior.
Gal-ck, when I saw the title to this thread, I got scared. I thought you were yelling at someone. LOL.

We've seen this side of Sangsik before, so in that I agree with toranaga. He's very moralistic. Actually, so is Yoonsik. They have certain rules about right and wrong, and when those lines are crossed they see it as indicative of a huge moral failing. They are pretty intolerant in that way, in my opinion, but it's interesting because it makes me wonder what in their background makes them act that way. Dad is pretty old-fashioned and strict in his beliefs, but he doesn't get excited the way they do.

Oh, so I'm a Herr now, am I? Are you trying to start a rumor so Lee Chang-hoon will prefer you when he sees us both? I'm not so sure I can pass for male any more than you can.

YOU know after watching sangsik be so upset and disappointed in catching her in a lie,I really do not see how he could have such strong feelings for her and treat her so coldly, for so long.

Gal-ck, when I saw the title to this thread, I got scared. I thought you were yelling at someone. LOL. Bo Nope, just channeling my inner Sangsik-a. I totally agree w/toranaga. He's firstly jealous because she spent some time w/Hosup and second because he just doesn't like a liar. Even though caught him red handed when she asked why it was acceptable for him to lie to Grandma. I know Sangsik said something about "I don't lie to deceive people" and I was thinking WTH, that's the whole purpose of a lie, to not give someone the truth, i.e. to deceive them. Man, and he's a scholar?

I agree with all the personality characteristics that you've all mentioned, but why didn't Hana explain herself? It seems to me that she was resisting his giving her orders, without her making a big deal about it when his mind should have been on studying. When he told her to go home, she said why when you won't be there so he said read a book. not likely. He gave no reason, he didn't necessarily know that Hosip would be with Cho-hee, so why be so bossy-go sit home alone for hours- to a person who likes to be social? I can understand that she didn't want to be obedient and didn't want to start a fight on the phone either. The second lie, that she was in the bath, is less defensible.

I think you are right ginny, she told him something to the effect of "why don't you marry me so you won't be so worried who I'm with." Sangsik wants to have all types of say in what Hana does or doesn't do, and yet he's resisting any real commitment with her. About the bath, I guess maybe she just didn't want to fight with Sangsik while eating dinner w/other people, that would've been embarrassing.

And how about that tracking device? Man, that's so infuriating. First thing I'd do is go to a phone store and have it turned off. fooey! He doesn't even claim that it's for her safety, it's just for his jealousy and general nosiness. There's a tiny crumb of satisfaction for Hana, in that it means Sangsik cares, but.... that isn't enough for her to have to put up with such controlling nonsense.

I think he's going a little over the top with this stuff, I understand where his mind set is at with liars and being lied to and how he's stupidly jealous of Hana and Ho-sup's relationship, but it's not like Ho-sup's making any moves on Hana or anything, they were engaged, but HANA broke it off, this guy really gets to me sometimes...AAHHUU AAHHUU AAHHUU!!! (that's supposed to be Sang-sik's little dog bark thing that he did that one episode)

...AAHHUU AAHHUU AAHHUU!!! (that's supposed to be Sang-sik's little dog bark thing that he did that one episode) ROTFL! Too funny. I wonder if the actor really does that or if he has to do that as part of Sangsik's character. That barking thing reminded me of when Little Grandpa sneezed all his rice out and Sangsik looked like an overgrown Joon while covering his rice bowl.

I heard "little" grandpa (hee, hee) do the "aroo" thing, and a few weeks ago, Yoon-sik did it, too. Might be a family thingie.
