Bo and Lucy... please note that Alexa plans on becoming Andrea's wife... so see, they ARE real people .,, and I'm going to invite My Sweetheart/WML Grandpa to my next dinner party AND I'll invite him to cook. And NO, I don't need a real life... I'm quite content with this one. by the way, is it possible that Grandma played Lady Jung on Dae Jang-Geum? i know it was a very long time ago, but she looks familier and that's the only thing I could come up with.

Yes, yes, yes, my dear! She was marvelous. I thought you had the DVDs, LOL. I will say, though, that when she first showed up on DJG, I had the hardest time identifying her, even though I've seen her on lots of dramas (WML, Alzheimer's grandma on Green Prairie, and other non-subtitled roles). She's actually a lot younger, I think, than the character she plays on WML, and I think she does a really good job of capturing that crochety-elderly-lady essense, but still with a playful side. Bo

Andrea is the other Woo-jin on Love Letter, Ginny. If you can follow that, you are a K-drama fan.

Oh, I'm SUCH a fan, but I started late, with OMR (or maybe the one before that? the name has slipped my mind) as far as modern-day dramas, but saw several historical ones.

Kathleen, I like your idea about having Grandpa over!

IMO, no matter how nicely, sweetly or after how many years Grandma would still have had the same reaction. She takes suggestions as personal insults and I don't respect that.
p.s. Because I will meet and kiss (although probably by force) Bae Yon Jung one of these days. Fiction my glue gun!

I agree with you Bo. I think she felt usurped in her power. Jiyeun has charged in like a bull in a china shop with her ideas of improvement, and maybe they'd be better, but she needs to let is rise naturally. She's still wearing teh hanbok for crisake! It was her second day. And Jiyeun's attitude sucks. Like in one of the later scenes saturday when Geon was making some special dish for Gpa, and Jiyeun tells Goeun she's adding too much water to the flower and Geoun tells her that they like them thinner like that. "Oh, I like to make the cakes firm, press 'em hard and crunchy on the outside but chewy on the inside and make them >delicious<" Hey, some people like runny oatmeal and some like it really thick. Who's to say what's better???
Jiyeun hasn't learned a blessed thing! She's already moved on to her next plan of "improvement" of how to avoid having leftovers covered in wrap! But really shocked me was when Jiyeun was wolfing down some rice and Kimchi for a pre-lunch snack, and they were discussing how to reduce leftovers, and Jiyeun suggested she and Geoun just eat more of certain things that don't hold over as well, Geoun tells her that sometimes she turns down certain (more expensive) foods out of politeness. How sad! Geoun obviously feels like a second class citizen of that family.

Yeah! An ally at last. You're right, Colette, Ji-yeun's got to put on the brakes. But that's what happens when new people come into a family. The funny thing is, it didn't really happen with Goeun, she just fit right in. I think that's because G looks for ways to make people comfortable, and J looks for ways to make their lives better. Both methods have their upsides and downsides.
G's remark about what she eats is right in there with Grandma's philosophy, too. Another thought--maybe that's why G is so thin. She doesn't think of food as entertainment, but as fuel, so she just eats what's available and what seems practical. I think she has a few things to teach Jiyeun--but Jiyeun might eventually brighten up things for Goeun.

I love this fuel concept.... Goeun is a little sports car ... whereas I am a 18-wheeler moving van. TaDa... a new cookbook is born!
I also think that G was so very humbled by the family taking her in and treating her so decently that she was dedicated to following their lead. The opposite daughter-in-laws is a wonderful study in learning the team concept.

Bo she's at it again ;D, the grandma had it in for jiyeun since the beginning because the girl is rich and grandma is a hater. Now jiyeun just changed the pots because they are dirty and full of grease and the grandma flipped her wig when she saw the new ones. I would have smack the old lady with that frying pan upside the head >:(just kidding for all of those in grandmas fan club. She loves to see that girl cry , But I also feel that jiyeun should have asked her first. And I also would like to invite you all to my wedding with Woojin it would be a small ceremony since we don't want the media to make a circus out of the wedding when they find out I'm about to have his child. wish us good luck.

LOL! I hope that's Woojin #2, not Woojin #1 (Andrea), because I like the boyish men. I wish you much joy in your marriage and congratulations on the baby.

I love this statement: the grandma had it in for jiyeun since the beginning because the girl is rich and grandma is a hater. Yeah that granma is a hater, she's mad 'cause she doesn't have any bling to her name and Jiyeun does.

Oy. I don't think the pots were dirty--they were just old (that's the part that seemed to really inflame grannie, eh?). You guys. (Bling? Har, har...) Bo PS - Is this the Woojin who was also Sir Min? 'Cause, you gotta fight for him, Raven my girl.

I think Jiyeun seems like she has OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder). She's always scrubbing things that other people think are clean, clearing out and reorganizing cabinets, etc., and last week she said that she wanted to have (read: can't abide not having) all pretty, clean things around her. She has no tolerance for perceived imperfection or disorder. Just wait till she has a baby--she's going to make her own baby food (actually, a nice idea, but she'll turn it into a rubber-gloved ritual), spin the flax to make all-natural diapers, and never let Yoonsik touch the baby unless he's washed his hands.
