Okay, not really, but I needed to get screen captures for two of the actresses from the film Humanist, so I thought you guys might be interested in seeing Kim Myeong Su (who plays Wakizaka) as the beggar. This was the first thing I saw him in, and it's an amusing, overly pathetic role that was strangely endearing. Got his soju, his smokes, his rotting leg - what more could a guy want?! Trying to make friends, poor fellow. Fighting over money. Enjoy, ~ Heather www.nocturnal-butterfly.net/

It is a testament to the man's great acting ability that he can play such a breadth of roles. I love his voice. It is a rich trained instrument, much like the Royal Shakespeare rep crowd. He can deliver any line. If he spoke English, I'd bet he could do Shakespeare wonderfully.

Thanks, Eowyn! I don't recommend Humanist for everyone as it is a really dark, disturbing comedy with adult situations. If you liked the humor of Oldboy or the outrageous characters in Save the Green Planet, than you'll like this one. But Kim was a focal point - the beggar had a habit of popping up at odd intervals, to suggest the black-and-white differences between him and the main clean-cut rich boy. He did a great job at being dirty and repulsive, yet totally sympathetic, and all in an amusing sorta way. I love his voice, too, bungalowdweller! It's very distinct and clear. Actually, that's how I always recognize him (and I usually go "That's the beggar!") And he has a great laugh. skinz, that is indeed a garbage bag "shoe". Very fashionable, isn't it? *L* Reminds me of the Civil War Confederate soldiers having to tie burlap sacks on their feet during the winter months when the South started losing military funds and couldn't afford shoes. It's really sad, but a necessary creativity. I also recommend seeing Kim Myeong Su in Into the Mirror. Not only is it one of my favorite films but he acted alongside other IYSS names: Kim Myeong Min (YSS himself), Gi Ju Bong (Royal Attendant) and Jeong Eun Pyo (Dae Man, the artillery guy who lost the use of his legs). It stars quintessential Korean actor Yu Ji Tae. I'd get screen caps except my computer player is set to a different region. Drats. Thanks, ~ Heather

Wow, thanks moreshige! Will it work against the PowerDVD program (that's what I use to nab screen caps)? I'll definitely have to look into that! ;D

How odd. I can't see any of these pics; is nocturnal butterfly net closed down?

Well, it's not closed down, Bo, just experiencing technical difficulties. Again. The same thing happened to our server back in early September, and it was fixed in a couple days with no data loss. Hopefully it will be the same this time... ugh. Keep checking back, I guess. Sorry for the inconvenience!

I watched Humanist over the Thanksgiving weekend, and while I have to agree with Heather that it is not a film for everyone (there are a couple parts that were hard to watch) I enjoyed it. If you can tolerate films like Resevoir Dogs you'll do fine with this one. The beggar is the most sympathetic character in the movie. He's the only one who's not a raging hypocrite, or worse.
