Skinz, I am a cubs fan and I am wearing my only Sox jersey today. Most cubs fans I know did not root for the opposing team like the Sox fans did after the Cubs won the division and were trying to go for the championship. But no more whining! I am glad we have a championship team back in Chicago but I am also glad my real sports have started their seasons too. Now if that can rub off on them too! Congrats to the White Sox! It was an amazing season![/b]

LOL! Great pic Chigirl, just don't let any die-hard Cubbies see you in that. Thanks Skinz. I had a coworker snap that with my camera phone this morning. I am a Chicago fan first and foremost. Hense the nickname. I really hate the whole Cubs/ Sox stuff. It was not like that when I was a kid. It's all media induced. Boy do I hate the media. Just let somebody tell me what I can and can't wear. Oh and I DO put ketchup on a hot dog too. So there... phttpptthhh. Now Go Bears, Go Blackhawks (they need it!), Go Wolves!(they need it too!)

I have to jump in with this. I grew up on the northwest side of Chicago and as a little kid would ditch school to go to the Cubs games. My people were from the old west side of the city and the west side went to either team so I had Sox fans in the family, too. There has always been a rivalry which got worse as time went on because North-siders (most of which are suburban transplants, by the way and never grew up in the city at all!) looked down upon the south side and South-siders. The North-side went through a gentrification process which began in the early 70s. The new urbanites brought their suburban snobbishness with them and a virulent hatred of blue-collar people, which the White Sox represented. (After all, how can you be HIP and work with your hands!!! ? ) Little did these new North-siders know that the Northside had been blue-collar too! Chi-girl is right--this whole thing has been blown up way out of proportion. After growing up watching both teams lose season after season, I was disgusted. I'm gratified to see that the Sox finally did it. Now if the Cubs would only get their butts in gear we can end all of this loser mentality madness! ;D And the Cubs fans that I know are bitterly disappointed. They would have preferred that the Sox lose. Blue-collar guys: 1 North-side poseurs: 0. And I'm still a West-sider, so no one get on my case!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats White Sox nation!
I guess it really was their offense that gave them the edge. You did mention liking their lineup earlier this season Skinz, didn't you. You're a visionary my friend.
I like the commentary Chigirl and bungalow. Good sociological discussion about origins of this rivalry.
The only place where I'll distance myself from Chigirl is in her affection for "Da Bears". I'm a Vikings fan myself, but it appears as though this will be a year for the "Monsters of the Midway". Enjoy it you Chicago sports fans. You all certainly deserve it!
