Today's Tribune' Book section has a full page on Linda Sue Park, the author I recommended (somewhere)-"When My Name Was Keoko" set in occupied Korea during WWII. Her first three books were historical fiction. Newbery Medal-winning author Linda Sue Park will receive an award at the Harold Washington Library Center, 400 S. State St., at 10:30 am, Oct. 29. Tickets are free for teachers and students, $5 for others. She won the Newbery for "A Single Shard" and has written 4 other young adult books and 5 picture books, including "Bee-bim Bop," which has the recipe. Tickets are available at the Trib. store, 435 N. Michigan Av. thru Oct. 26, or by calling the Chicago Humanities Fest. at 312-494-9509, or online at www.chfestival.org.

thank you so much for this info, ginny. I just loved 'Keoko and Shard' I believe you recommended them on this board.
I was out to lunch with a family with 3 kids and I launched into my love of reading about Korean history/culture... and one of the kids excitedly told me I should read "when my name was keoko" ... well, I was just absolutely thrilled that she had read it and we were abl to share some wonderful story moments.
LSPark writes beautifully for kids... and hey, for grownups too.

You're welcome, Kathleen. I'm looking forward to finding The Mulberry Tree and Bibimbap in paperback soon (Not sure if they're in pb or hb now). I love children's books, even picture books. Guilty pleasures. Correction (sorry): The new novel is titled: Project Mulberry

Yes, Thanks! I and my daughter loved Keoko. I couldn't put it down--to me it is for all ages. Beautifully written. I'd like to get to the library but don't know if I'll make it--my 27th wedding anniversary is the night before!

Congratulations on your surprisingly long marriage, BD! (Only because you have mentioned your children are quite young.) More long life to you and yours! More family prosperity and happiness!
