God, Just when I'm starting to read about one part of Modern Korean history, the drama series starts and is never gonna be seen outside of korea. Anyway, Florel and another member pointed out about the historical drama :The 5th republic that deals with Korean president Chun Doo Hwan in the 80s. Ugh! there's so much that I want to see: The Kwangju Uprising (and the little secret the Carter administration tried to downplay ) The bombing that killed most of the government staff members The airplane that was shot down by the Soviets The fight to save Kim Dae Jung life between the U.S. government and Korea. and his downfall of corruption with his pal, Roh Tae-woo.

Is it known for a fact that "5th Republic" won't be shown in the USA? I was really hoping ... Ack ... just like "Yain Shidae" another show denied to us poor migooknom.

4 episodes have been aired since this seriese started. I think this show, "5th Republic", touchs very sensitive part of the modern history of korea. The related people is still living include Chon Du Hwan, Roh Tae Woo, Kim Dae Jung and etc. In this kind of drama, the fair point of view is the most important thing, i think. I enjoy this drama, however unfortunately this drama is aired in very similar time with IYSS. sigh.

Don’t know if this is a long shot, but if you’re from the US they might sell it on DVD at us.yesasia.com/en/index.aspx when the series is complete. They’re already selling DVD’s of Dae Jang Geum and Emperor of the Sea but they don’t have Age of Warriors and Wang Gun yet! This series does sound interesting though.

Here's some info on the production: english.chosun.com/w21data/html/news/200504/200504120017.htmlI've had the opportunity to view the second episode ... while I hardly understand a word of the dialogue, the acting, production values, etc. strike me as impressive. I hope it somehow makes its way to the U.S. ... it's the kind of show that might find a wider audience on cable or through PBS.

For AOW maniacs such as myself, the second actor from the right in the illustration above (here in the role of Roh Tae-woo) is our old friend Suh in Suk (aka Yi Ui-bang).
