Actually, due to the diverse exigencies of our urban environment, long term New York City residents all evolve eventually into a sublime state beyond crabbiness.
You should have seen our last blackout where tens of thousands of us calmly left work and walked to and over the various bridges leading out of Manhattan.
Three or four divisions of a large, leaderless, internally programmed army, hardly any of whom even had to ask for directions!
(But then again): YOU TALKIN' TO ME?!

Sometimes it is difficult to not slip into crabbiness. You should have seen our last blackout where tens of thousands of us calmly left work and walked to and over the various bridges leading out of Manhattan. Three or four divisions of a large, leaderless, internally programmed army, hardly any of whom even had to ask for directions! Oh yeah... calmly, right. Grumbling all the way. !@!*(*&( ! @#&)(*()%^ All on auto pilot!

Not to dispute the miraculous civilizing properties of the rarified New York City atmosphere, but I couldn't help but notice that the widespread inclination of the lofty collected mind was to leave Manhattan.

Forgive me, I should have explained as background, few real New Yorkers actually live in Manhattan, although many of us work there. Its private sector housing has largely been set aside for the idle rich and for yuppie migrants who live six-in-an-apartment in order to bring the rent costs down to a manageable level. Most of us live in the "other" four boroughs of the city, Queens, Brooklyn, The Bronx and Staten Island, too. I was, however, born and raised on the storied lower east side of Manhattan but that was in the mid-twentieth century when things were quite different. (Geotrivia: For those of you who live in the "continental" United States, The Bronx is the only part of NYC that is actually part of your contiguous land mass.)

GeneralDu, you're so polite. I almost feel like I should let you and Moreshige get away with lording it over us simple tillers of the soil in the Hudson Valley. Whoops, Ellie Mae's critters are loose on the dirt road. I'd best be roundin them up.
