I still say we should all get together and drink some red wine and talk about how much we miss Joonsang. Make mine white. We'll drink out of Hello Kitty wine cups until the pain goes away.

I was watching part of my taped ep 21 this morning, where Sang-hyuk's dad meets Joon-sang right after he called JS's mom and she told him JS's father was none of his business (she baaaad). I thought, again, about how elegantly filmed this show is. Also, it suddenly made sense to me that he would think JS was his son because of the math ability--I had missed the early eps on my first viewing, so I did not know he had that clue. So, short story, isn't this just an excellently written and filmed and acted show? I mean, everything ties together so beautifully, everybody's motives and reactions seem realistic and still dramatically interesting. The only thing I still feel is, (a) that it is medically impossible to replace a person's entire "memory bank" so that they believe they remember a different life (this is why I think the drama is bizarre--I accept this premise, but only because the scripting is so well done), and (b) what is with JS's brown hair? Didn't he know his hair was dyed? And it looks like a wig from one of those 60s movie stars--what was that stuff called? Analon? Otherwise, I am yours, Bo

I don't follow ya here, Bo. Oh, for sure. I've often found that I think some scene has been cut out because things haven't been spelled out and yet people are reacting to whatever information is "missing," but then it turns up in a flashback. At first it was annoying, but now I enjoy knowing that the writers and director actually have thought it out and are presenting things to us like a puzzle sometimes. Like--well, there are so many examples, but--when Min-hyung confronted his mother the first time they met up at the old house after all those years, and we didn't see their conversation until the next episode, after there had been several intervening scenes. It piqued my interest in a pleasant way. And the character of Joonsang; I was thinking this morning what a great job Yon-sama does. I mean, that character is actually the softest and most romantic--more than Yu-jin, even. He has a way of seeming to need love so much without actually being "needy." No wonder they made a teddy bear out of him!

Okay, the thing with the hair was, they were trying to disguise him, and I just thought it was clumsy. He had no idea he had a past, and his hair seemed an integral part of the transformation. I guess the point is, I don't like the hair, so it just seems stupid to me to have it that way. And it looks like some 80s Flock of Seagulls style--all blown out and sculpted--when everyone else's hair (okay, we won't mention Cherin) is so natural.
My other point was, I have so little to pick at on this show, so that looms large for me.

Make mine white. We'll drink out of Hello Kitty wine cups until the pain goes away. ...and speaking of cups...here's another Bae Young-joon Mug -cup produced and sold only in Japan because Koreans aren't really familiar with that kind of aggressive marketing. (Korea sold the license and NHK is earning loads of money with it...! ) blog.naver.com/yesacom.do?Redirect=Log&logNo=100010466221Just a breif summary of the news report: a very special mug cup is being sold in Japan. Japan's portal site GIGLOBE is selling "Winter Love Song Original Voice Cup" with a sensor that lets out a WLS background music and voice of Bae Young-joon for a whole minute every time one uses the cup. Released on Feb. 4th the voice in the cup narrates one of the lines of Bae Young-joon on ep.16 in which he swears to love Yujin in the church. BIGLOBE will receive orders till March 7 and deliver the product on the 14th. A cup will cost 5040 yen. (I heard the cup works for only 1,000 times or so, though - and if you ask me, this cup will only worsen the pain for WLS fans) Meanwhile Bae Young-joon went to Australia to shoot a commerical from Feb.11-15. He found himself surrounded by Japanese tourists there (again..!) among them, some 50 of them camped outside the opera house since 4a.m. that morning.

Bo) I agree totally with (a), but without that premise we wouldn't have much of a story, would we. So I just accept the bizarre for the sake of the plot. I've commented on the color of his hair post-accident here before, only it looks more red on my TV. If he didn't know it was dyed, what do you suppose he thinks when it begins to grow out and the black roots appear?

Alanna, that cup sounds like a terrible idea! I do not want a talking cup. But I guess if one is really stuck on Bae Yong-joon, the idea of hearing his voice all the time is more appealing. I'd rather have the Joon Bear, 'cause then you can cuddle him. Do you mean because it doesn't work forever? You give us the most interesting information. Thanks for sharing!

I don't understand what his hair has to do with the whole memory wipe thing. If they are feeding stories into his memory, couldn't they have just as easily told his brain to think that he himself chose his hairstyle and color?
At first, (and I'm talking the first five minutes of his new look) I didn't really care for his hairstyle and color (seems too processed for my taste), but after a while it didn't really matter, he has so many other qualities, that I didn't even pay attention to his hair or to the fact that 6 times out of 10 I don't like what he's wearing too much. To me his character is bigger and so much more than that.

I like the idea of having the cup. Sure, I'd probably never get over WLS, but that's okay. Works only 1,000 times? I'd probably only use it on special occassions to make it long extra long. That's too bad they are selling it only in Japan though.

What I don't understand is why youse guys have a problem with the logic of his hair. It shouldn't have to have anything to do with his memory or his being either JS or MH. He's a grownup now, and he colors his hair. What's the prob? BTW, please read my tone as joshing, not mean. I usually don't like it when Asian people color their hair that lighter brown; I love their natural coloring. But I've gotten used to it on Joonsang, and now when I see his black hair in the flashbacks, it looks too dark. OTOH, even though I like the messiness/fluffiness of his hairstyle, it sure does look shellacked in place sometimes. Bo, is the word you're thinking of "Orlon"? or "Dynel"?

Sigh. I'm only trying to say, I don't like his hair and this drama is SO GOOD that it's the only thing I can pick apart. About the memory thing, yeah, I suspended my disbelief. But still...
I'm through with the subject, if you all are.

I am impressed by the longevity of this conversation on his hair!
I agree, I think that he just chose it as an adult hairstyle. Maybe it was the writers' idea because it shows that he has a more flamboyant personality now that he's Minhyung instead of Joonsang and has a father and all. (I don't like how it looks though.)
I'm all for the wine drinking from the HK cups - or from the Joonsang mugs for that matter. We can listen to the OST while we're doing it and watch the last episodes over and over again until we can't tell if the headaches are from the drama ending or the wine.
