Yes, I think we should write letters, rather than just calling the station. If WOCH is able to accumulate a good stack of kind, thoughtful letters expressing our strong attachment to historical Korean dramas (and why we love them so much), I think it may be a greater influence over the scheduling of the next drama (particularly on Mon/Tues). If we just call the station, we take the chance that the person answering the phone will probably not document our request accurately, if at all. Also, I agree with Bo----- in our letters, I think we should definitely include our praise and gratefulness for the fact that the station has increased the subtitling quite a lot in the past year.

Here's the problem. Since KBC stopped airing MBC dramas, there is only one recent historical drama that they could give and that's Haeshin. I guess they preferred to air something more recent than that. Also, Haeshin isn't like other historical dramas (similar to Damo). They probably got a lot of complaints about the repeats so they decided to air something recent and modern rather than air Wang Guhn, AOW, etc again.

I don't understand why KBC decided to air only KBS dramas. They should air the MBC and SBS dramas as well, then we'd have more variety and more to choose from.

The negative is that it's only KBS programming, not any other channel.

They probably got a lot of complaints about the repeats so they decided to air something recent and modern rather than air Wang Guhn, AOW, etc again. Funny how, over in the contemporary drama threads, everyone was fuming that KBC-28 was repeating the older contemporary dramas, while over here, everyone’s just BEGGING them to show “Age of Warriors” or “Immortal Yi Soon-shin” a second time! Don’t know if that reflects the audience, or if it’s an indication of the relative quality of the dramas mentioned. I have to admit that I wouldn’t give a hoot if “One Million Roses” or (heaven forbid) “My Precious Child” ran a second time, but if they ever re-ran the splendid historical drama “Emperor Wang Guhn,” I sure know that I’d be an enthusiastic repeat viewer (well, if I lived in Chicago, I would be)! ;D Here's the problem. Since KBC stopped airing MBC dramas, there is only one recent historical drama that they could give and that's Haeshin. I guess they preferred to air something more recent than that. Also, Haeshin isn't like other historical dramas (similar to Damo). I don’t mean to sound like a broken record, but once again I suggest that you try to persuade KBC-28 to broadcast “Emperor of the Sea” (a.k.a. “Haeshin”). Though the management of KBS admits that only about 10% of EOS was proven historical fact, the fictional 90% was still plenty exciting and entertaining. I tend to be a stickler for historical accuracy in my dramas, but (after a bit of a slow start) I came away enjoying EOS nearly as much as I did “Immortal Yi Soon-shin.” Very highly recommended!

The problem is, Mikey, The Emperor of the Sea was produced not by KBS but by Kim Jong-Hak Production. KBS has no legal right to sell or air it overseas.

After a tough two days, I get back on the board to see this!!!! I'll be writing today and I ask, no BEG ,everyone who cares about Korean Historical Drama to do the same thing! Aphone call is like a vapor of air, but a stack of letters is documentation that cannot be explained away. Let's wallpaper 'em folks!

I think you're right about that, Choko, but even so "Emperor of the Sea" was broadcast on KBS-LA (the KBS-operated station in Los Angeles). So, even if KBS doesn't own the direct rights, it doesn't seem impossible that Chicago's KBC-28 (which, as JP notes, is also now a KBS affiliate) might get authorization to broadcast it as well. Of course, it's probably just a money issue. Why spend a few dollars to broadcast a really terrific drama, when plenty of lousy dramas are available for nothing?

"Emperor of the Sea" has a page on KBS America's site, so I see no reason why we could't see it. I really like Choi Soo-jong.

I'm not complaining. For once, my Saturday night is free. You guys in Chicago have no idea how awful it is to tie up Sat. & Sun. every week for AOW and YSS, even though I made a point to do it.
The fact is, "Farewell to Sorrow" is "Farewell to WMBC" for me, as I have said. but I am not unhappy. These have been some of the most interesting and personally enriching shows I expect to ever see. I have developed an understanding and respect of people, cultures, and myself that I could not have come by otherwise.

Big Ditto here! -- I have come to learn to admire the Korean culture, people and language mainly through watching Channel 28 dramas over the past few years. That has been a first for me......there have been VERY few American tv shows which I feel have come close to the quality of such epics as Dae Jang Geum, Yi Soon Shin, etc. The historical dramas are definitely my favorites.

Here in California, KBS-LA has been showing the usual variety show in that time slot ... no announcement about a permanent replacement ...
It seems one of the other So Cal stations started showing MBC's "The Fifth Republic" while I was preoccupied with IYSS. It's not a "silly hat drama" but at least it has a historical setting. Hope it's subtitled!
