Cool! Nice gathering party! Looks like you guys had fun. Noticed from pics that there werent many asia ppl The weird thing is...the subtitles were done to attract 2nd generation Koreans...but many who i've talked to about these dramas just look at me weird...basically "Why are you watching shows my grandma would watch?" This last gathering, though, we actually did have a few Koreans...a couple from KyungDaeDoo's grad school, and a 2nd gen Korean-American from my church who was just completely fascinated by the party & the non-Korean fans. PLEASe pass the word on to whoever is interested!

PLEASe pass the word on to whoever is interested! You have to understand that among second generation korean-americans there's a stigma that korean dramas are what our parents watch. And usually we don't want to look "uncool". Also, if we watch korean dramas we don't want to be mistaken for being FOBS or Fobbish (too closely associated with the motherland and be mistaken as foreigners). I think its really a dumb excuse because there's a uniqueness that korean dramas and film offer that hollywood films and shows lack. So more often than not the viewing habits among 2nd gen. korean-americans is the same as the rest of America. Its not quite a classic "grass is greener on the other side" syndrome. Koreans who grew up here and dont understand korean probably got only exposed to the non-subtitled videos that our parents always rent, and unfairly we deemed those videos boring. Whereas, here in this forum we have a group of non-koreans who love korean drama because of their exposure to sub-titled shows. Understanding a show comes a long way! I wish more korean-americans like myself would enjoy these shows...but sadly I'm more of a minority.
