What are your saddest moments from IYSS? It would be impossible to name thesaddest but what are your top three?
My top three, in no particular order...
1. The torture scenes, especially "why are you afraid of the people, they are not your enemy" and YSS's wife and son meeting him after the torture...really heart wrenching stuff.
2. The taking of Mijin and it's aftermath...even though this is fictional, it is still very effective drama
3. The death of Captain Chung...he's the first major character to die and even though you know it's coming, it's still very sad.

There wasn't anything to make me fall down with tears but there were a few scenes that were emotional:
1) When YSS son died and YSS is crying at the shore
2) When YSS saw Dae-man without his legs no more
3) YSS speach before going to fight at Noryang
4) Shin Rip death
5) The Massacre at Nokdo
6) Nabal mother dying in the fire
7) General Hwang Se-Deuk death in episode 1 and 100.
and finally Won Kyun death

oh man I think I'm just a big cry baby. theres been alot of scenes where I've had tears rolling down my eyes. Of course the scene where they torture poor YSS, the episode where alot of the main characters die (including the Holy Archer), and even yesterdays episode (102) when they were killing the Chosunese hostages, I was crying.

I thought the scene where the caniballistic people are found, right before the epidemic, was really saddening, espicially the old man's speech.
The scenes with Japanese releasing Chosunese into town areas and shooting them all with muskets was disturbing too...

There were plenty of two-hankie moments, but the scene with Nalbal and Yi Soon-shin's mother on the boat ... that was just about a ten-hankie moment. I'm afraid I'm about to cry just thinking about it.

I just watched the ending.
Admiral Yi's death, obviously emotional.. Commander Yi died honorably too. Those nameless soldiers who fought bravely one last time were all great.
Kwon Jun is right; Admiral Yi is too great to even be called a hero.

Kwon Jun is right; Admiral Yi is too great to even be called a hero. I just watched this episode after taping it Sat nignt. When Commander Yi died and he and Admiral Yi were sharing their special moment, I began tearing. By time that Yi Soon Shin died and the commanders were sharing their thoughts on the Admiral's influence on them, I was sobbing and I could not stop. I don't know what it is about the story about a man that I never knew existed until watching this show, but right now, I'm a mess. It's not that men shouldn't cry, but I rarely do. Anyhow, number three would be Nalbal's silent but sad reaction to the Admiral's death. Everyone he had ever loved was gone, save Yi Soon Shin. Now, the Admiral was gone...

That was heartbreaking! My poor Nalbal!! I cried just watching him cry... But I was just tearing up through the entire final episode; it felt like a part of my life was ending. There was a part of me actually hoping Nalbal would die as well protecting Yi because he devoted his entire life to that cause, and now there's nothing left for him. That is actually tragic for such a noble warrior. Actually, for awhile I had the impression that Nalbal and Jin would become close for that very reason. I mean, Jin was in the exact same situation, and after her adopted father, Magistrate Uh, died, she had no one left in her life either. Plus both are fictional characters, so the writers could give them any kind of finale they wanted. I guess I can just pretend those two characters ended up together and had a fictious "happy ending". But the final episode was like a six hankie moment! I didn't think I would cry so much because I knew what was coming and who would die. So depressing to see it end...

I didn't know what to feel at the ending. Admiral Yi died 400 years ago, so I didn't really want to cry about it. But yes...how he chose to end his life after struggling in an unforgiving world moved me.

It's not that men shouldn't cry, but I rarely do I couldn't stop crying either. I think this is the one episode where I cried alot. Probably because YSS died and never really saw the victory they had over the Japanese. After everything he went through, all the battles, the King torturing him and calling him a traitor, he never got to taste victory, never got to see the Japanese being destroyed and his country being joyful. Episode 104 was definetely was one of the saddest for me

2. The taking of Mijin and it's aftermath...even though this is fictional, it is still very effective drama I agree. This was very sad. When she was captured and put on the boat after being beaten. Then YSS was running in the water after her as the boat went off and she was crying out to him with her arms out. That was so sad. I really liked the character of Mi-jin. She was amazing.

I have to take back what I wrote in my first post- those were among the saddest episodes, but the last episode contained the saddest moments of all, bar none. I knew what was going to happen-I did see episode 4 when the series started-but what I saw had much more of an impact on me this time around. Young Nam's death and how he tells the Admiral how much he has always admired him was especially poigniant in light of the disagreements that they had. I am not ashamed to admit that I had to go get my box of tissues and that I sniffled all the way through the credits. Whatever show comes next has some mighty big shoes to fill.
